Pei Zixian stepped aside to make way for him.

Deep within the garden, there was a white figure.

As Su Jingsheng walked along the pebbled path, her heart inexplicably began to race.

She walked around a clump of bushes and saw the person.

It was a boy, wearing a white sweater, sitting in a wheelchair.

He had his back to her, his hair was a little long, and it hung softly down the back of his neck.

A light gray blanket covered his knees, and his hands rested on the armrests, his fingers long and slender with distinct knuckles.

Su Jingsheng walked over to him, and then she froze.

That face was handsome, pale, with gentle eyebrows and eyes, and lips that were almost bloodless, but the corners of his mouth were curved in a shallow arc.

Her eyes were bright, filled with light.

She recognized those eyes.

"Yutong..." she heard her own voice, soft and ethereal.

Pei Yutong.

wrong.

The boy smiled, a smile that radiated from his eyes like a spring breeze.

"Sheng Sheng," he called her, his voice a little hoarse but very gentle, "It's been more than three years since we last met."

Su Jingsheng opened her mouth, but couldn't say a word.

"I miss you so much," he said.

Su Jingsheng stared at him, at his face, at his eyes, at this person—he was different now.

The bright and cheerful little princess of the past is gone.

Before me stood a young man, slender and handsome, with a hint of illness in his eyes, yet exuding a clean and youthful charm.

Su Jingsheng finally spoke, "What are you doing...?"

Pei Qingyan patted the chair next to him, "Sit down and talk."

Su Jingsheng sat down and stared at him.

Pei Qingyan reached out, took her hand, and placed it in his own palm. His hand was cold, with distinct knuckles, and much larger than before.

"Let me tell you a story," he said softly.

Su Jingsheng nodded.

Pei Qingyan leaned back in his chair, looking at the cherry blossoms overhead.

"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful queen who was pregnant with her second child," he began.

"The king loved her very much, but later his heart changed, and he fell in love with a witch outside. The witch also became pregnant, and fearing that the queen would give birth to another prince with Alpha potential, she drugged the queen."

Su Jingsheng tightened her grip.

"That child was born as a deformed intersex person," Pei Qingyan said calmly.

"The queen was so frightened that she lied to the public and said that it was a princess."

The wind blew through the garden, and a few cherry blossoms fell on their shoulders.

"As the little princess grew up, her twisted genes caused her to differentiate into an Omega." Pei Qingyan paused.

"That's why they get prettier as they grow."

"But she was in great pain. She had Alpha genes and power in her bones, but she was forced to accept an Omega body and the humiliation of the world's invisibility towards Omegas."

Su Jingsheng's eyes reddened.

Pei Qingyan turned his head and looked at her.

"Sheng Sheng, over the years, you've been pushing for ABO equality in Northern Europe, and I'm not lagging behind either."

He coughed twice, and Su Jingsheng quickly reached out and patted his back.

Pei Qingyan held her hand. "Do you remember what I told you? I went to a border city with my brother once. There's an underground market there that specializes in buying and selling Omega and Beta."

Su Jingsheng nodded.

"That market, I've already destroyed it," Pei Qingyan said, a smile curving his lips.

"I also obtained a gene-restoring drug."

He started coughing again, this time very badly.

Su Jingsheng gently patted his back, tears falling down her face.

Pei Qingyan recovered, leaned back in his chair, and looked at her.

"Sheng Sheng, don't cry." He reached out and wiped away her tears with his thumb. "Am I amazing?"

Su Jingsheng nodded, tears streaming down her face, "Amazing."

"We share the same ideals and have both done what we wanted to do," Pei Qingyan said.

"Changing the world may not take years, but someone has to work towards it, right?"

Su Jingsheng grasped his hand. "Yes."

"You're amazing." She sniffed. "I'm so proud to be your friend."

Pei Qingyan smiled, like sunlight shining through the clouds.

He shifted his body and rested his head on Su Jingsheng's shoulder.

"Let me lean on you for a bit," he said softly.

Su Jingsheng stopped moving and let him lean against her.

A gentle breeze blew, and cherry blossoms fell, landing on them.

Pei Qingyan leaned on her shoulder, watching the falling petals.

"Sheng Sheng," he called to her.

"Um?"

"Do you like me like this?" His voice was very soft.

"Would you like him even more than you like Pei Yutong?"

Su Jingsheng was stunned. She looked down at the boy leaning on her shoulder.

His eyes were bright, filled with expectation, caution, and a little unease.

Su Jingsheng opened her mouth, about to speak, when she suddenly sensed that something was wrong with him.

His body was too light, too light for a boy to have, and he was extremely frail.

She had a bad feeling.

"What's wrong?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "Pei Qingyan, what's wrong?"

Pei Qingyan smiled and said, "This gene-editing drug is very harmful to the body."

"I feel like I'm about to die."

Su Jingsheng looked down at him, tears streaming down her face.

"Don't be afraid," Pei Qingyan said softly, holding her fingers in his hand.

"I'm so happy," he said, his voice growing softer.

"To see you one last time."

Pei Qingyan raised his hand slowly, as if using all his strength, and touched her cheek with his fingertips, gently wiping away her tears.

"actually……"

Actually, he liked her the moment he saw her.

Actually, after he recovered, he had his brother test the compatibility, and he and she, who was an SSS-level player, had a 95% compatibility.

Unfortunately, he was too timid; even for the last time, he didn't dare to say it.

Pei Qingyan looked into her eyes for a long time, then his hand slid down her cheek and hung at his side.

A smile still lingered on her lips as she closed her eyes.

"Pei Qingyan?" Su Jingsheng called out to him.

no response.

"Pei Qingyan!"

Still no response.

Su Jingsheng couldn't stop her tears from flowing.

"Yutong," she called, her voice trembling with tears, "Pei Yutong."

The wind swept through the garden, and cherry blossoms fell, landing on his hair, on his shoulders, and in his palms.

He won't move anymore.

Behind a pillar in the distance, Pei Zixian leaned against it and slowly slid down to sit on the ground.

He took off his glasses, raised his hand, and wiped away the tears from the corner of his eyes.

The garden was quiet, with only the sound of the wind blowing through the cherry blossoms.

And Su Jingsheng's crying.
