The boy soldier next to the famous detective
Chapter 81: Impressive Antique Cars
Sitting in the car on the way to the campsite, Conan Edogawa had not yet recovered from his previous anger.
As for Ai Haibara, Conan Edogawa had already given up hope. Professor Agasa was the last ally he knew when facing Jonah's "fear of insufficient firepower," and now Professor Agasa was even showing signs of "betrayal." How could Conan Edogawa accept this?
Today, when Conan Edogawa was getting ready to go out, he was stunned to see Jonah putting a gun (P90) into his backpack that he had never seen before, but which looked like it would hurt a lot.
After asking Jonah for the name of the gun, Conan Edogawa searched for information about it online. After that, he couldn't look at the submachine gun, which looked small but was indeed very painful to hit.
Conan Edogawa is now really curious about the background of the American arms dealer that Jonah met by chance while just going for a walk.
If such expensive and difficult-to-obtain submachine guns are given directly to Jonah, and Jonah suddenly wants to relive the battlefield, will he also need to provide Jonah with some rockets or armed helicopters to cheer him up?
Although Conan Edogawa was somewhat sullen during the journey, the presence of the three little ones kept the atmosphere in the car lively. They chatted excitedly the whole way, which helped the brooding Conan Edogawa relax a little.
At night, everyone stayed in the huge tent brought by Professor Agasa, except for Jonah, who didn't sleep very soundly.
For Jonah, going camping with others was a dangerous activity, as he couldn't guarantee that no danger might suddenly appear around them.
As midnight approached, the sound of someone getting up in the tent jolted Jonah awake from his half-asleep state.
Jonah quickly looked toward the tent entrance, and through the light from outside, he could clearly see that the person who stood up was Ai Haibara.
At first, Jonah thought Ai Haibara had gotten up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but after 10 minutes she still hadn't returned, so Jonah frowned and went out to look for her.
With the Glock 19, which was indeed lighter and easier to carry, hidden in his arms, Jonah soon spotted Ai Haibara talking on the phone in the phone booth area of the campsite.
Jonah, finding Ai Haibara's actions strange, was about to go forward to ask her when he heard the word "older sister" come out of Ai Haibara's mouth.
Jonah stopped in his tracks, blinking blankly. If his memory served him right, Ai Haibara's sister should be dead, and killed by someone named Gin.
Jonah instinctively gripped the pistol in his arms, suddenly unsure whether he should go out.
"Hey? Jonah, you're out using the restroom too?"
Jonah heard footsteps behind him and turned around to find Genta, who had gotten up to use the restroom.
"What's wrong? Is there something over there?"
"No, let's go to the restroom."
Shaking his head, Jonah subconsciously helped Ai Haibara cover up their actions. Genta Kojima didn't think much of it and, while telling Jonah how delicious dinner was, they went to the public restroom together.
The next day, Jonah looked at Ai Haibara as if nothing had happened. He blinked but didn't directly ask her what had happened. Instead, while everyone was packing their things, he quietly walked up to Conan Edogawa.
"You mean Ai Haibara called her sister?"
After listening to Jonah's words with surprise, Conan Edogawa thought for a moment and then showed a knowing look.
"I think I know what happened. I'll tell Haibara later."
"Alright then."
Since Conan Edogawa said so, Jonah didn't ask any more questions. Apart from the crime scene and matters concerning Ran Mouri, Jonah trusted Conan Edogawa's ability to handle things.
After everyone packed their things, Professor Agasa drove them to the newly built twin towers in Nishitama City, which the children had been very interested in when they passed by earlier.
As soon as Professor Agasa parked his car, he saw Kogoro Mouri, Ran Mouri, and Sonoko Suzuki getting out of a taxi.
Having learned that Kogoro Mouri was invited to visit by the owner of the Twin Towers, Mio Tokiwa, who was also Kogoro Mouri's junior in college, Jonah and the others followed Kogoro Mouri into the building.
In the exhibition hall, a device that can scan a face and then print out what the user will look like 10 years later is having a lot of fun. Even Jonah sat on it and saw what he would look like 10 years from now.
Just as Jonah was curiously looking at his "grown-up" self through the photo, Conan Edogawa and Ai Haibara had already been forced into chairs and were about to begin scanning.
Realizing something was wrong, Jonah reacted quickly, found the machine's power cord, and yanked it off, stopping the machine from operating.
"Jonah, well done."
On the way upstairs, Conan Edogawa whispered to Jonah, who just shook his head slightly, his hands supporting him on the sightseeing elevator, looking down at the street that was getting smaller and smaller.
Jonah wasn't afraid of heights; he was just very interested in the view. When everyone arrived at the banquet hall on the 75th floor and saw the breathtaking view of Mount Fuji through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, they were so amazed that they cheered.
"Jonah, do you think I'd look better with a different hairstyle?"
After introductions, Kogoro Mouri started chatting with Mio Tokiwa, while Ran Mouri stood by, watching to see if Kogoro would do anything impolite. Sonoko Suzuki sat to the side, looking troubled, sighing to herself while holding a photo of herself 10 years later.
"If Sonoko-neechan wants to change her hairstyle, then let her. They say on TV that changing your hairstyle occasionally can change your mood."
"Really? That makes sense. I'll try getting some curls too."
Her gaze swept over Ai Haibara as she walked by, and Sonoko Suzuki suddenly grinned mischievously, pulling Jonah in front of her and whispering something.
"Jonah, that aloof little girl cares about you a lot. She even pretended to be just passing by when she saw me talking to you."
"I have a very good relationship with Haibara."
"...Oh well, girls really do mature a bit earlier than boys."
Seeing Jonah remain unmoved, Sonoko Suzuki lost interest in teasing him and instead looked with amusement at Ai Haibara not far away.
Not understanding what Sonoko Suzuki meant by suddenly saying that, Jonah looked around and was about to ask Professor Agasa when he could leave when he suddenly overheard two office workers chatting as they came up from the elevator.
The Porsche 356A is a rare vintage car, and it's especially interesting to Jonah and Conan Edogawa.
Because Gin's car is a black Porsche 356A.
They exchanged a glance, and Jonah and Conan Edogawa were almost immediately off, rushing towards the elevator and pressing the down button.
"Jonah, you're carrying a gun, aren't you!"
"certainly!"
