The boy soldier next to the famous detective

Chapter 757 Ai Haibara: You want to talk to me about this?

Although he was speechless, Jonah and the three little ones quickly dug out Conan Edogawa, who had been knocked unconscious by the snowdrift.

Seeing that Conan Edogawa had fallen unconscious, Jonah did not wake him up immediately. Instead, he carried him into the new cabin and placed him on the sofa.

After surveying the cabin's layout, Jonah used the axe next to the fireplace in the living room to chop some firewood and light the fireplace. As the fireplace was lit, the originally cold room quickly became warm. After a while, the three little ones took off their down jackets one by one.

"Jonah, is Conan alright?"

Kneeling beside Conan Edogawa, Ayumi carefully examined the unconscious Conan and asked with some concern.

"It's nothing, he was just knocked unconscious. At most, he might have a concussion, but it won't be a big problem."

Jonah found some canned food and cooking utensils in the storage room of the cabin. After discovering that the gas stove in the kitchen was not working properly, Jonah chose to use the fire in the fireplace to cook some simple food for the three little ones to help them regain some strength.

"Shouldn't we wake him up?"

Looking at the canned food that Jonah had started to stew on the firewood and was already emitting a fragrant aroma, Genta asked a question out of curiosity.

"No need, let him stay unconscious, so he won't say anything inappropriate when he wakes up."

"Huh? ×3"

Clearly, the three children didn't understand what Jonah meant, and Jonah obviously had no intention of explaining in detail.

While watching the fire, Jonah called Professor Agasa to let him know that Conan Edogawa and the others were with him and that they were at the cabin's location. He told Professor Agasa not to worry and that the search team didn't necessarily have to brave the heavy snow to look for them.

A while later, Jonah received a message from Dave that the crisis on Hondo Eisuke's side had been resolved and he no longer needed to keep watch. So, taking advantage of the staff's inattention, Jonah secretly took out a snowmobile from the warehouse and, based on Dave's location, found the three men that Jonah had killed.

According to Dave, the bodies of the three men had already been tied up and dumped deeper into the forest on a snowmobile. By the time the blizzard covered and froze the area, it would take the police a long time to find them.

Knowing that Dave and the others would handle the cleanup well, Jonah had no worries from the start.

After feeding the three little ones a hot canned stew, Jonah watched them fall asleep on the sofa covered with down jackets, a faint smile appearing on his face.

The three little ones and Jonah had a tacit understanding. They would usually ask all sorts of questions when they encountered something they were curious about, but this time, they acted as if they hadn't noticed anything about how they suddenly appeared or the gunshots that had rang out earlier, and didn't ask any questions at all.

Jonah actually thinks the three kids have a lot of potential, but he also thinks Conan Edogawa is right. They should live more in the sunlight and not be exposed to dark and bloody things.

I am different; I can no longer avoid or escape it.

Jonah felt like he had betrayed his former self when he thought about how he had gone from hating weapons but feeling insecure without them, to being very interested in them now, and getting more excited the more powerful they were.

After staying in the cabin for three hours, and waiting for the blizzard to subside slightly, the rescue team arrived and took Jonah and the others out.

Although Jonah said that Conan Edogawa was fine, the rescuers still took Conan to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. The local police also arrived and asked Jonah and the others what had happened.

Jonah was already very skilled at this kind of simple, perfunctory police work.

Aside from helping the police find the original victim, the three boys' testimonies contained no valuable information about the three murderers.

Jonah's answer was even simpler: he arrived later and didn't notice anything amiss.

The police officer in charge of the area clearly didn't know Jonah well enough, nor did he suspect that a group of children who had just successfully escaped could do anything outrageous. Although he was completely confused, he still gently comforted Jonah and the others, and then began to worry about how to catch the three murderers.

"That's so unfair, Jonah! You've all eaten, and you're not even going to wake me up?"

On the hospital bed, Conan Edogawa, who had been examined and found to have no problems, but was a little exhausted both physically and mentally, woke up after a good night's sleep. He heard the three little ones chattering about what had happened after he fell unconscious, and looked helplessly at Jonah, who was sitting next to him eating an apple.

"I forgot."

"No, you're probably thinking I should stay unconscious a little longer to avoid trouble, right?"

"..."

"You're avoiding my gaze, Jonah!"

......

Although Conan Edogawa's guess was accurate, Jonah ultimately did not admit that he actually disliked Conan Edogawa.

Seeing that Conan Edogawa was alright, Professor Agasa drove all the children back to Tokyo. However, because it was different from the original itinerary, the three children did not go straight home, but were taken home by Professor Agasa to stay at his house.

Although there aren't many beds, there's no shortage of bedding, so everyone can sleep together on the floor.

The three kids were really looking forward to the decision, and Jonah also found it quite interesting, especially the pillow fight that Genta mentioned before bed.

"Are some people laughing so happily because they're thinking of choosing the spot next to Jonah when making their beds, and then pretending to be restless and rolling around in bed at night so they can get into Jonah's blankets?"

Ai Haibara was humming a song while preparing snacks for the three little ones when she heard an annoying voice coming from behind her.

Ai Haibara finds Conan Edogawa really annoying! Not only does he love to talk nonsense, but he can also deduce what she's thinking every time, making it impossible for her to happily carry out her plans.

Ai Haibara, her eyes slightly narrowed as she looked at Conan Edogawa, pondered whether she should add something special to Conan's bedtime milk that night so he would fall into a deep sleep and not wake up until noon the next day.

"Don't look at me like that. I was just saying, I didn't mean to stop you."

He waved to Ai Haibara, and Conan Edogawa, noticing the murderous intent in her eyes, quickly explained.

"I just think that even if you have this idea, you can't make it happen. Jonah might have to go out in the middle of the night."

"...Is their squad on a mission?"

"Yes, there was a plan, but it was temporarily interrupted because of the danger I encountered."

Nodding, Conan Edogawa felt that he couldn't be blamed for this. He hadn't expected that going skiing with Dr. Agasa would lead to witnessing a murder scene.

And that murderer, if you really wanted to lure someone to a secluded place for an assassination, couldn't you have been a little more careful in choosing the location? To do it right along the cable car's route, did you really think the people on the cable car were blind?

"I see."

Nodding slowly, since it was the squad that was taking action, there was nothing that could be done. Ai Haibara couldn't let her own momentary expectations delay the important matter.

"Is there anything else? Don't disturb me while I'm working."

"Because I was on a winning streak, they kicked me out and temporarily banned me from participating in the game. The professor is researching something in the basement, and I had nowhere else to go but to come here. Don't be so heartless, Haibara. We're partners too."

Sitting in his chair, Conan Edogawa casually picked up a cherry and put it in his mouth, speaking in a seemingly casual manner.

"My parents went to visit their friends. Sometimes I'm really glad that neither of my parents' families has many relatives, so I've never had to think too much about visiting relatives growing up."

"...Are you sure you want to talk to me about this?"
