The boy soldier next to the famous detective

Chapter 62 The Detective Who Was Shot

Unable to get a solution from others, Conan Edogawa could only shoulder the burden himself with a worried expression.

Fortunately, they were going camping together the next day, giving Conan Edogawa a brief chance to relax.

Upon arriving at the campsite, the group split into two groups. Conan Edogawa led the three children into the forest to gather firewood for cooking, while Jonah stayed at the campsite to process ingredients with Ai Haibara and Professor Agasa, preparing for the meal.

However, even after Jonah and Ai Haibara had prepared all the ingredients and started stewing the curry, Conan Edogawa and the others still hadn't returned.

As she looked at the horizon where fiery clouds were beginning to appear, Ai Haibara sensed something was wrong.

"Even if they're playful, they shouldn't be gone this long."

Upon hearing Ai Haibara's words, Jonah, who was still diligently stirring his curry, blinked, quickly ran to the pile of backpacks, picked up the Detective Boys badge pinned to his backpack, and called out twice in communication mode, but received no response.

"Let's go look for it."

Feeling that something was definitely wrong, Professor Agasa suggested searching in the forest, and then they saw Jonah pull a pistol out of his backpack.

"Hey Jonah, you're definitely not carrying that backpack!"

"Doctor, don't be silly. It's not like you can only fire a gun with that tactical backpack."

Unfazed, Ai Haibara simply nodded to Jonah, telling him to hide the gun and not expose it, before leading the way into the forest.

The three of them observed their surroundings along the way, and finally found firewood scattered on the ground at the entrance of a stalactite cave.

"Did they run off to play in here?"

Thinking of the three little ones' adventurous nature, Professor Agasa sighed helplessly.

"Let's go in and look for them. If the roads here are too complicated, they might get lost."

Ai Haibara felt helpless, but she still walked down the stone steps at the entrance, only to be stopped by Jonah.

"I'll go down first."

Jonah turned on the watch's light and walked in the lead, exploring the environment of the stalactite cave step by step. Shortly after entering the cave, he quickly discovered the glasses left behind by Conan Edogawa on the ground.

"Here are Conan's glasses."

Hearing Jonah's call, Ai Haibara and Professor Agasa quickly ran over.

Ai Haibara took the glasses from Jonah's hand and, after confirming that they were the ones Conan Edogawa usually wore, couldn't help but frown.

With her glasses activated, Ai Haibara narrowed her eyes slightly and, through the transmitter left by Conan Edogawa in a nearby grotto, obtained a number that startled her.

"Kudo left a message saying 110, he wanted us to call the police, it seems they encountered some kind of problem."

"Haibara, Doctor, over here."

Before Ai Haibara could finish speaking, Jonah discovered new traces: bloodstains on a stone wall and a corpse with a gunshot wound to the head in a dark corner on the other side.

"It seems something really has happened."

With a sigh, Ai Haibara knew that what happened next was no longer within her control.

Looking at Jonah, who was squatting next to the corpse and had even pulled a pistol out of it, Ai Haibara said very seriously, "The environment inside is complicated. Jonah, you must be careful when you move around. The Doctor and I will go back the way we came and call the police as soon as we leave."

"Judging from the marks at the scene, at least one of Kudo and the children was shot. The situation is critical. The rest is up to you."

"Jonah, try not to kill anyone."

"Okay, I understand."

He holstered his own pistol and took the one he had found on the corpse. Jonah quickly made his way deeper into the cave, but the cave was full of interconnected paths with many forks, which severely slowed down Jonah's search. At one crucial fork in the road, Jonah even went the wrong way. When he reached the end of the fork and found it to be a dead end, he couldn't help but curse and ran back quickly.

Taking deep breaths to adjust his breathing, Jonah, having finally found the right path, lay hidden behind the stone wall, turned off the flashlight on his watch, and slowly squinted at the man sitting on the ground guarding the entrance.

According to his observation, there were three enemies, all armed with pistols. The one sitting at the entrance was blocking the door, while the other two were going in and out of the side-by-side caves further inside, clearly searching for Conan Edogawa and the three little ones.

Jonah knew he couldn't afford to waste any more time; if the bandits found the children, things would get even more complicated.

Without even intending to sneak up and ambush, Jonah directly aimed his gun at the man sitting on the ground and fired three shots in quick succession, hitting the man's arm, thigh, and shoulder, causing the man to fall to the ground in pain and howl.

The sudden burst of gunfire echoed throughout the cave, prompting the other two bandits to call out what had happened and rush out with their guns raised.

Still occupying the concealed terrain, Jonah was certain that he had seen the three little ones running quickly past deep into the cave, and knew that he no longer had any worries.

A gunfight was about to break out. The space in the cave was not large, and even Jonah's skills made it difficult to hide. Fortunately, the shooting skills of the two opponents could not compare with Jonah's. After dodging their initial frenzied shooting, Jonah finally seized the opportunity. He first shot one of them in the shoulder, rendering him unable to resist. Then, with great willpower, he moved the gun away from the other man's forehead and fired several shots into his calves, causing him to fall to the ground.

He rushed over and kicked the man unconscious. Jonah then ran to another man and knocked him unconscious with the grip of his pistol.

Just then, Jonah suddenly heard hurried footsteps behind him and quickly raised his gun to aim at the passage behind him.

"Wait a minute, you're Jonah, right? We're police officers from the Metropolitan Police Department!"

The moment the gun was swung, the police officer, who had already seen the scene in the corridor through his flashlight, immediately shouted out his identity.

Jonah moved his finger away from the trigger a little, but he didn't immediately let his guard down. He lowered his gun only after he saw the police uniform on the other person and recognized the face as somewhat familiar.

Following alongside Kogoro Mouri and Conan Edogawa, Jonah got to know at least all the police officers on Inspector Megure's side, if not all the officers in the Metropolitan Police Department.

"Okay, we're here."

Seeing Jonah lower his gun, the police officers behind him quickly approached, checked the injuries of the three thugs on the ground, and then took the fired pistol from Jonah's hand as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.

Strangely enough, this was the first time Jonah had fired a gun in front of the police, but the police officers all remained unusually calm, as if none of them found it strange.

Jonah didn't notice anything amiss. He handed over all the captured guns, but hid his own unfired gun. Then, as if remembering something, he quickly ran towards the exit of the passage, where he encountered Inspector Megure and Ai Haibara.

"Who was shot?"

"It's Edogawa. He was shot in the abdomen and has been taken to the ambulance. We're on our way there now. Professor Agasa is informing Kogoro Mouri."

After glancing at Jonah, who was completely unharmed, Ai Haibara's mood, which had been low because Conan Edogawa had been shot, improved slightly, but only slightly.

"You fired a shot in front of the police?"
