The boy soldier next to the famous detective
Chapter 22 Professor Agasa's Ingenious Ideas
"Gift?"
Jonah blinked, looked at the backpack in his hand, thought for a moment, and then put all the guns and grenades on the table into it. He found that it fit perfectly with some extra space. Moreover, the pockets and buckles inside the backpack clearly indicated that it was a tactical backpack.
"That's not all."
Shaking his head, Cohen walked over and secured the items in the backpack according to their positions. He then had Jonah put the backpack on, and to Jonah's surprise, he unzipped the outer buckle of the backpack, separating it into two parts. One part went around Jonah's head and landed in front of him.
When the buckle was fastened in the opposite direction, Jonah was surprised to find that the backpack had actually turned into a bulletproof vest with weapons and ammunition hanging on it.
"This is a bulletproof plate backpack. It can stop most handgun bullets and a few rifle bullets. It's very useful."
A slight smile appeared on his lips. Although it was a gift for Jonah, this kind of bulletproof plate backpack was something Cohen had always liked. It was just a pity that his role in the organization was that of a sniper, and he didn't need such a thing at all in order to be stealthy and flexible during operations. Now he could only buy one for Jonah, which was enough to satisfy his craving for it.
"Here, there's also a pair of cut-resistant tactical gloves and a tactical balaclava to help conceal your face." In a good mood, Cohen became unusually talkative. He prepared sufficient equipment for Jonah according to his own ideas, but looking at Jonah's small, childlike figure, Cohen still felt strange.
Cohen felt that if Jonah didn't actually kill his enemies, it would be hard not to suspect his identity.
"Thank you, Mr. Oshima."
Jonah looked at Cohen gratefully. Without Cohen's help, Jonah would never have been able to get this set of equipment.
"Is there anything I can help you with? I'll find a way to pay back the money for this set of equipment."
"No need, they're all for you. Let's play wargames together sometime."
Shaking his head, Cohen, who had been an assassin in the organization for so many years and didn't have many expenses, was quite wealthy. In addition, as an assassin, he had special channels to buy these equipment at much lower prices than outsiders, so it wasn't a big expense for Cohen.
Seeing Cohen's generosity, Jonah didn't stand on ceremony. After chatting with Cohen for a few more minutes, he returned to the Mouri Detective Agency with a heart full of "happiness" and then went straight to Professor Agasa's house.
Because Ran Mouri was worried that Jonah wouldn't be able to eat properly at home alone, she contacted Professor Agasa in advance, asking him to take care of Jonah for one night.
Professor Agasa naturally had no objections. After telling Ai Haibara about it, Ai Haibara even took time out of her experiment time to go out and buy more ingredients.
Jonah did not immediately open the door and go inside after arriving at Professor Agasa's house.
Avoiding the living room window, Jonah crouched low and crept to the back door of Professor Agasa's house. Using the same path he had observed before, he once again quietly climbed over the wall into Professor Agasa's house.
Arriving at a secluded room on the second floor, Jonah opened the door and quickly slipped inside.
He closed the door, turned on the light, and looked at the various science magazines piled up in the room. Jonah found a cabinet in the corner and put the backpack he had brought inside.
This room is where Professor Agasa stores miscellaneous items. According to Jonah, Professor Agasa himself hasn't entered it for over a year. He usually only puts things in this room when he finds that there's no room for them in the open and he doesn't want to throw them away.
After Ai Haibara came to the house, she increased her supervision of the environment and hygiene. Professor Agasa could only pay more attention to the daily chores and had even less opportunity to come to this room.
As for why Ai Haibara doesn't tidy up the room.
"I don't want to go into that place full of clutter and dust, where I don't know where bugs might be hiding."
Ai Haibara placed a bowl of stewed meat in front of Jonah as she said this, but couldn't help but glance sideways at the smirking Professor Agasa.
"Every home has a place to pile up clutter, but it's also silently contributing to the cleanliness and tidiness of the home."
"Nonsense."
Not wanting to argue with Professor Agasa about this, Ai Haibara returned to her seat and invited Jonah to start eating.
After dinner, Jonah took over the task of washing the dishes. Ai Haibara was very pleased to see this and turned to go to the basement to memorize the experimental data in her mind.
"Jonah, tell me, have you hidden something in my storage room?"
Jonah was washing the dishes when Professor Agasa walked over to him with a smile, rolled up his sleeves and started washing the dishes for Jonah. At the same time, he lowered his voice and asked a question that made Jonah's eyes change.
"Hehe, Ai is smart, but she doesn't understand children well enough. The fact that you suddenly asked about the storage room means you're really interested in that place."
Seeing Jonah's surprised look, Professor Agasa grinned and wanted to touch Jonah's hair, but found that his hands were wet and had to give up.
"I'm sorry, Doctor, I did hide something."
"It's nothing, I was just asking. Jonah, you're a good boy, I believe you won't do anything bad."
Having received the answer, Dr. Agasa did not press the matter further.
In his mind, Jonah was hiding nothing more than some knives or nail guns that he had gotten from Sonoko Suzuki—things that were dangerous enough to be used as weapons.
The reason they kept these things at home was because if they were left at the detective agency, Conan Edogawa and Ran Mouri would definitely not stand idly by.
Although Professor Agasa doesn't really support Jonah always tinkering with these dangerous things, his previous conversation with Ai Haibara and Conan Edogawa has touched him somewhat.
Before being able to provide Jonah with an absolute sense of security, Dr. Agasa felt it was best not to deprive Jonah of his desire to seek security.
"By the way, Jonah, how are you doing with the sneakers I made for you?"
"Habit, that's amazing. With those shoes, you can jump higher and run faster."
Seeing that Professor Agasa didn't hold his act of hiding things against him, Jonah felt much more relaxed. When the topic of the athletic shoes that enhanced his leg strength came up, Jonah was even more shocked.
Although it can only be used for a short period of time, the burst of power is sufficient.
"Really? Haha, I'm glad you like it."
Stroking his beard, and looking at Jonah who was very happy about his invention, Dr. Agasa suddenly had an idea.
Anything that gives Jonah a sense of security is dangerous. So, if we change our thinking and make something that is not so dangerous but can still make Jonah feel at ease, wouldn't that gradually change Jonah's attitude and make him more adaptable to social life?
The more Professor Agasa thought about it, the more hopeful it seemed. His eyes lit up as he looked at Jonah expectantly.
"Jonah, I want to tell you something."
