Courtyard House: Home Alone

Chapter 69: Another Attack on the Military Police and Headquarters

On the rooftop opposite Hongbinlou, several sentries on guard had just reacted and were about to fire when they discovered that the target had vanished, leaving only the towering flames and the echoing buzzing of explosions.

The entire city of Beiping seemed to be alarmed by the explosions and flames coming from the direction of Hongbinlou.

In the distance, the faint sound of sirens could be heard, but the sound was distant and slow, clearly indicating that the police were too frightened by the explosion to approach the area that had just been ravaged by blood and fire.

Lin Yifan ran at breakneck speed, taking advantage of his familiarity with the streets of Beiping, deliberately choosing to traverse secluded alleys. His face was still covered by a cloth, his eyes cold and calm, as if he were not the one who had just stirred up a bloody storm in Hongbinlou.

Meanwhile, Lin Yifan arrived outside the heavily guarded military police headquarters once again. He hid in the space and observed the three hundred or so Japanese military police who had been awakened and were urgently assembling.

"Now!" Seeing so many Japanese soldiers gathered together, Lin Yifan was not about to let such a good opportunity slip by. With a thought, hundreds of hand grenades appeared evenly at the feet of the Japanese soldiers.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

A deafening explosion rang out again in the night sky, this time even more powerful than the explosion at the entrance of Hongbinlou!

Flames soared into the sky and thick smoke billowed from the military police compound. Hundreds of grenades detonated simultaneously, the shockwaves instantly engulfing the entire assembly area. More than three hundred Japanese military police, hastily assembling and unable to react, fell in droves like wheat swept by a storm. Limbs, gun parts, tattered uniforms mingled with mud and rubble, turning the entire military police station into a scene of utter carnage!

The violent explosion even blew off the roofs of some of the military police barracks, and flames greedily devoured everything flammable, turning half the sky red.

The sentries at the entrance and the two machine gun nests were also "taken care of".

Lin Yifan hid in a safe space, coldly "watching" the hellish scene outside. He could "see" the desperate cries of the Japanese soldiers who had survived the fire, and he could "hear" the terrifying sounds of bones shattering and internal organs being torn apart by the shockwave.

But he felt nothing. These executioners, whose hands were stained with the blood of the Chinese people, deserved to die!

Lin Yifan knew that with the 300-plus Japanese military police wiped out, the remaining Japanese forces in Beiping were few and far between. Although there were still some guards at headquarters, they were undoubtedly on edge.

Without pausing for a moment, he teleported instantly, appearing in another heavily guarded location in Beiping City—next to the Japanese military headquarters.

The headquarters was brightly lit, and the alarm blared sharply. Large numbers of Japanese soldiers were running around in a panic, trying to strengthen the defenses.

But faced with Lin Yifan's absolute strength and unexpected attack methods, all their efforts seemed so futile.

Lin Yifan used the same trick again, throwing hundreds of grenades with the precision of hailstones at the dense Japanese troops and important military facilities in the headquarters compound.

"BOOM—!!!"

Another devastating explosion occurred at the Japanese military headquarters!

After suffering heavy blows at Hongbinlou, the military police, and the headquarters, the Japanese command system and main military forces in Beiping were almost completely wiped out.

Lin Yifan did not linger in the fight. After confirming that the main target had been destroyed, he activated his spatial abilities again and disappeared silently into the night, leaving behind only a city trembling with the sound of explosions, about to usher in the dawn.

Those surviving traitors and remnants of the Japanese army awaited their impending doom in boundless fear and despair.

After leaving Dongjiaomin Lane, Lin Yifan used his lightness skill to quickly arrive at Wang Kuian's house, which he had scouted beforehand. Wang Kuian's house was located in Jinyu Hutong, and was a three-courtyard siheyuan (traditional courtyard house).

The courtyard gate was tightly closed, and the red lanterns hanging at the entrance swayed gently in the night breeze, creating an eerie contrast with the towering flames of Hongbinlou.

Without the slightest hesitation, Lin Yifan silently scaled the wall and entered the room like a raccoon dog.

The courtyard was quiet, with only a few rooms still lit. The faint sounds of maids sobbing and muffled conversations could be heard, indicating that they had also heard the explosion from the direction of Hongbinlou and knew that something might have happened to their master.

Lin Yifan's mental power instantly covered the entire courtyard and quickly located the main house, where the lights were brightest and the clearest voices could be heard.

He crept over like a ghost, pressed himself against the window frame, and peered through the gap in the paper windowpane. Inside, he saw Wang Kui'an's several concubines huddled together, their faces pale and trembling.

One of the older, richly dressed women, presumably Wang Kuian's legal wife, was trying to remain calm as she scolded the steward beside her, "What's the panic! Master is a lucky man; it's just a bit chaotic outside!"

The steward, also looking terrified, stammered, "Madam, it's...it's chaotic outside, we dare not go out! And...and just now I thought I heard an explosion coming from Hongbin Restaurant, Master..."

The first wife's face darkened further, and she slammed her hand on the table: "Nonsense! How could anything be wrong with the master! Shut up, all of you, and stay inside!"

Lin Yifan sneered. These were the families of traitors, still deceiving themselves even now. Without further hesitation, he gently pushed open the slightly ajar door.

"Who?!"

Those inside gasped in surprise at the commotion. Lin Yifan appeared at the door like a ghost, his cold gaze sweeping over the panicked crowd.

"Wang Kui'an is dead." His voice wasn't loud, but it exploded in everyone's ears like thunder.

"No! Impossible! Who are you?!" the wife screamed, her face instantly draining of all color.

"The person who sent you to see him." Lin Yifan's tone was flat, but his eyes were devoid of any warmth.

He knew that these people usually abused Wang Kuian's power to bully and oppress the villagers, and their hands were stained with the blood and tears of innocent people. He could not let them go.

With a thought, several bullets were fired silently, accurately striking the foreheads of the people inside the room. They didn't even have time to let out a second scream before collapsing to the ground, their eyes glazed over, and they died.

After dealing with the people in the main house, Lin Yifan checked the other rooms one by one, cleaning up all the main members of Wang Kuian's family and several butlers and guards who usually committed many evil deeds.

The entire process was clean and efficient, leaving no trace. After finishing, Lin Yifan put away the valuables he had already checked, took one last look at the once magnificent but now lifeless courtyard house, and without any lingering attachment, turned and disappeared into the night.
