Courtyard House: Home Alone

Chapter 61 Reinforcements

A Japanese corporal who was trying to stick his head out from behind a truck tire fell to the ground with a bloody hole between his eyebrows.

"Over there! To the left!" a Japanese officer roared, pointing in the general direction where Lin Yifan was.

"Da da da..."

Several machine guns immediately turned and opened fire on Lin Yifan's bunker. Bullets scattered dirt in front of the bunker, and chunks of earth fell from the top of the bunker from time to time.

Lin Yifan calmly huddled in his bunker, feeling the vibrations from the bullets striking it. He waited, waiting for the brief interval when the Japanese machine gunners were reloading. His mental focus was firmly locked onto the positions and movements of the machine gunners.

Finally, he caught a glimpse of a machine gunner pausing briefly due to the overheating barrel and reaching for a new magazine!

"Bang!"

Another shot rang out! Four hundred meters away, the machine gunner, who had just changed the magazine and was preparing to fire again, suddenly jerked his head back, and the machine gun immediately went silent.

Immediately afterward, Lin Yifan swiftly shifted his position, teleporting like a ghost to another backup cover two hundred meters away. He knew that firing continuously from the same spot had revealed his approximate location, and he had to move immediately.

Sure enough, less than ten seconds after he left, the cover he had just been in was completely covered by Japanese machine gun fire.

In the new bunker, Lin Yifan set up his rifle again. By this time, the Japanese troops on the road had calmed down somewhat from the initial chaos and began to systematically suppress his previously exposed position with fire, while also attempting to send out small squads to outflank him.

Two Japanese soldiers crouched low, using the truck as cover, and cautiously made their way to Lin Yifan's initial firing position, which was 150 meters to the left.

Lin Yifan's lips curled into a cold smile. Instead of using a gun, he launched a grenade from his spatial storage, which had already been delayed for three seconds, and it landed at the feet of the two Japanese soldiers.

"boom!"

A violent explosion rang out, and the two Japanese soldiers were torn to pieces by the shockwave and shrapnel before they could even react.

This unexpected grenade once again thwarted the Japanese army's attempt to maneuver.

Lin Yifan moved between various cover positions like an experienced hunter, occasionally using his sniper rifle to accurately pick off enemy machine gunners and officers.

Sometimes he would throw grenades to thwart the enemy's charge and maneuver; other times he would use his mental perception to anticipate the enemy's movements and catch them off guard.

He alone was like an army, firmly controlling the rhythm of the battlefield. Although the Japanese army was numerous and equipped with machine guns, they were unable to organize an effective offensive under Lin Yifan's flexible tactics and precise strikes. Instead, they were cut off on both sides of the road, unable to move, and their casualties continued to increase.

The Japanese company commander, watching his soldiers fall one by one, was frantic with worry. He tried to call for reinforcements via radio, but Lin Yifan had anticipated this and, at the very beginning of the battle, destroyed the radio with a sniper rifle, cutting off their communication with the outside world.

"Baka! Charge! Charge forward!" The company commander roared hysterically, brandishing his command sword.

Under his command, a few remaining Japanese soldiers, bayoneted rifles, charged toward Lin Yifan's location with strange cries.

Lin Yifan's eyes were cold. He calmly put down his sniper rifle, took out a captured Type 92 heavy machine gun from his spatial storage, and quickly set it up. This type of heavy machine gun was standard equipment of the Japanese army. He had captured quite a few when he was clearing the airport and had also studied how to use them.

"Da da da... da da da..."

The heavy machine gun suddenly fired with a dull but powerful sound, and tongues of fire spewed from the muzzle. The dense bullets swept across the charging Japanese soldiers like the scythe of death.

Under overwhelming firepower, the Japanese soldiers couldn't even get within fifty meters of the bunker before falling into pools of blood.

The battle lasted for nearly an hour.

On the highway, two Japanese trucks had already been destroyed by Lin Yifan's grenades and were engulfed in flames. The remaining vehicles were riddled with bullet holes. The road was littered with the corpses of Japanese soldiers and scattered weapons and equipment; blood stained the road, and the air was thick with the stench of blood and gunpowder.

The original Japanese company had suffered more than half its casualties, and the remaining soldiers were all in shock and their morale was extremely low. They were completely stunned by Lin Yifan's fierce firepower and unpredictable tactics. They had no idea how many enemies there were, and only knew that no matter how they attacked, they would be mercilessly slaughtered.

The Japanese company commander stared at the horrific scene before him, his face drained of color, his eyes filled with terror and despair. He knew that if things continued like this, his entire company would perish here. Trembling, he picked up his binoculars, trying to search for any trace of the enemy, but all he could see were burning trucks and the corpses of his comrades.

Lin Yifan, hiding in a bunker 400 meters away, used his mental power to sense the state of the Japanese troops. He knew the time was almost right. The Japanese army had been decimated, their morale collapsed, and it was time for the final mopping-up operation.

He stood up, no longer concealing himself, and dashed towards the road like an arrow released from a bow. He pushed his speed to the limit, leaving only afterimages in the air.

"There he is!" A surviving Japanese soldier spotted Lin Yifan and screamed in terror, raising his rifle to fire.

But his movements were as slow as a snail in Lin Yifan's eyes. Lin Yifan didn't even look at him; with a thought, a grenade appeared in the soldier's position.

"boom!"

An explosion occurred, and the soldier, along with several of his comrades, was killed.

Lin Yifan charged into the midst of the remaining Japanese soldiers, two military knives he had somehow acquired from the corpses of Japanese soldiers now in his hands. His figure moved like a ghost, weaving through the crowd. The blades flashed, each swing claiming a life. Facing these demoralized Japanese soldiers, he moved with unparalleled ease.

Screams, pleas for mercy, and the sound of weapons falling were mixed together, but were quickly drowned out by the dull thud of knives cutting into flesh and Lin Yifan's cold breathing.

Within minutes, the last resistance came to an end.

Lin Yifan stood in the middle of the road littered with corpses, blood dripping slowly from the blades of his two military knives, spreading into glaring blood flowers on the dry ground. He looked around, confirming that there was no one left alive.

An entire Japanese company was wiped out!

He glanced at his watch; it was 11:50. From the moment the Japanese troops entered the ambush zone to the end of the battle, the entire time had taken less than fifty minutes.
