Courtyard House: Home Alone
Chapter 50 Night Raid on the Military Police Headquarters
At this moment, Lin Yifan was using the cover of night to travel through Beiping City. Sure enough, there were fixed sentries at almost every intersection tonight, and the density of patrols had also increased significantly.
He took two full hours, sometimes detouring, sometimes teleporting, to reach the vicinity of the military police headquarters. He first carefully observed the location of the armory inside, and then began to learn about the sentries and patrols within the headquarters.
As I had guessed, the Japanese military police now had less than a third of their strength; the rest were probably out carrying out curfew duties.
The entire military camp had two armed sentries at the main gate, and on both sides were two heavy machine gun positions surrounded by sandbags, each with three Japanese soldiers inside.
There were two sentries at the entrance to the armory in the middle, and three three-wheeled motorcycles and four trucks were parked in the open space in front of them. A little further ahead, a two-story building was brightly lit; this was probably the Japanese command and communications room.
After thoroughly investigating all aspects, Lin Yifan began his operation. He first teleported to the armory, and under his mental control, he collected all the weapons, ammunition, fuel, and other military supplies from the four warehouses into his spatial storage in just five minutes.
Then, he teleported to the front of the sentries at the warehouse entrance. The two sentries were shocked by his sudden appearance.
Lin Yifan's pupils suddenly contracted, and he instinctively reached for his gun to shout at them.
However, they were a beat too slow. Lin Yifan's figure flickered like a ghost, and two bullets that flew out of the space warehouse silently pierced the foreheads of the two sentries.
The two sentries collapsed without a sound. After looting them, he didn't linger and teleported again, his target being the brightly lit operations room in the two-story building. Inside were a colonel, a lieutenant colonel, and two majors.
Similarly, as Lin Yifan appeared behind the colonel, four bullets struck their heads. The four Japanese officers fell straight to the ground without even a chance to scream, their blood instantly staining the battle map spread out on the table.
Lin Yifan's gaze swept across the room, and he quickly put the military deployment map hanging on the wall, the documents on the table, and several military telephones into his spatial storage.
Then, he did the same thing, teleporting to several other rooms in the building, taking care of the dozing communications soldier and duty officer one by one, and storing several military radios into his space. The whole process was clean and efficient, without making a single unnecessary sound.
After doing all this, he stood at the second-floor window, looking at the heavy machine gun position at the main entrance, a cold smile curving his lips.
Immediately afterward, he teleported to the main gate, where the attention of the eight Japanese soldiers was focused on the outside of the camp. Lin Yifan didn't want to waste time; with a thought, eight bullets pierced the skulls of the eight Japanese soldiers within two seconds.
He quickly searched the eight Japanese soldiers, and then stored them, along with the two heavy machine guns and their ammunition, into his personal storage space.
Next, only the Japanese soldiers who were still sleeping in the barracks remained in the entire military camp. So, he cleaned up each of the barracks where the Japanese soldiers were, and finally came to the armory entrance, where he put the three motorcycles and four trucks into his spatial storage.
After doing all this, he glanced at the captured watch and realized it was only 1 a.m. So, he set his sights on the nearby North China Garrison Command. Although those high-ranking officers were all dead, this was a good opportunity to take advantage of the situation. Since he was already there, he might as well take care of them all at once.
Arriving at the headquarters, he first familiarized himself with the layout and situation inside. His primary target was a small armory, as he knew that once he took the weapons and ammunition from it, the remaining Japanese soldiers would be like lambs to the slaughter.
Most importantly, he found a lot of good stuff in the armory, including two hundred well-packaged Thompson submachine guns, three hundred Type 100 submachine guns, and twenty Springfield sniper rifles with 4x scopes.
He teleported into the warehouse, first storing the weapons and ammunition into his spatial storage, then the living and military supplies. After collecting the supplies, Lin Yifan turned his attention to the Japanese soldiers sleeping in the barracks.
After clearing out the soldiers in the barracks, he went to the headquarters building and cleared it out from bottom to top. In the commander's office suite, he found a Japanese major general and killed him without hesitation.
In addition, he found two boxes of gold, six boxes of antique paintings and calligraphy, and two boxes of jewelry and jade, which were probably intended by Tada Shun to take back to Japan.
What he didn't know was that Major General Yukio Hatoyama, who had just arrived in Beiping that afternoon, had passed away before even a day had passed.
Finally, he arrived at the entrance of the headquarters, killed the guards at the door using the same method, collected his spoils, and then turned around and put away the cars and motorcycles inside before leaving the headquarters.
Just then, a piercing alarm sounded from the military police headquarters. Lin Yifan quickened his pace, knowing that the Japanese had discovered the military police's location. He had achieved his objective for the day; it was time to get back quickly.
He dodged large groups of Japanese soldiers along the way, quickly eliminating any small squads of ten or so men he encountered. By the time he returned to his room, it was already past five in the morning.
After returning to his room, he used his mental power to check the situation in the courtyard and found that several families were still awake, including the deaf old woman, Yi Zhonghai, Jia Gui, Li Ermazi, He Daqing, and Grandpa Zhang.
Grandpa Zhang and Grandma Zhang were still talking when Grandma Zhang said, "Old man, what are we going to do if this keeps up? The Japanese are causing trouble every day... I don't know when this martial law will end. We have no money, no food. How are we supposed to survive?"
Grandpa Zhang sighed, his voice full of exhaustion: "Who can argue with that? Life is getting harder and harder."
Listen, the military police sirens just went off again. I wonder what's happened in the city this time.
All we can do is keep our doors and windows closed, stay home as much as possible, and hope that things will get better soon.
Listening to their conversation, Lin Yifan's heart skipped a beat. He'd been too hasty! The city was mostly populated by ordinary people; if the Japanese really sealed it off for ten days or half a month, people would starve to death. It seemed he had to stop for now. Or...
There's another way that can both strike at the Japanese without affecting these innocent neighbors.
For example, they would specifically target those traitors and lackeys who committed numerous evil deeds, or they would strike at some of the Japanese's secret strongholds and granaries.
This way, we can weaken the Japanese forces and also get some food to help those in real need in the courtyard, such as Aunt Li's family and Uncle Zhang's family.
"Okay, that's settled then. We need to be more discreet and targeted in our actions from now on." With that, Lin Yifan stopped thinking about it and began to tally up his gains from the night.
Inside the space, weapons and ammunition were piled up like mountains. There were hundreds of boxes of hand grenades alone, and thousands of rifles and submachine guns of various models. There were also two boxes of gold and several boxes of antique jewelry, which were priceless.
Looking at these "spoils of war," Lin Yifan nodded in satisfaction. With these things, he would have more confidence in protecting himself or fighting the Japanese invaders.
He stretched, feeling the sense of security brought by the ample supplies in the space, and gradually became drowsy, soon falling into a deep sleep.
