Courtyard House: Home Alone

Chapter 10 Money 6 Roots Couple

Having devised his plan, Lin Yifan acted. With a thought, he instantly appeared one meter behind Qian Liugen. Then, with another thought, he wanted to try to remotely capture the person into his air.

He focused his mental energy, locked onto Qian Liugen's body, and silently recited "Save".

However, Qian Liugen remained motionless behind the window, as if nothing had happened.

Lin Yifan frowned slightly. It seemed that remotely collecting objects from living beings, especially adults with independent consciousness like Qian Liugen, was not easy. At least, he couldn't do it with his current mental strength and control over space.

Since moving from a distance didn't work, he had no choice but to get close. Lin Yifan held his breath and moved forward silently, like a cat.

Qian Liugen's attention was entirely focused on the view outside the window, completely unaware that the shadow of death was looming over him. Lin Yifan walked behind him and patted his back with his right hand. At the same time, with a thought, the living man in front of him vanished instantly.

Qian Liugen felt a sudden light in his eyes, realizing that he was inexplicably standing on an open space with soft, yielding ground beneath his feet.

He whirled around, only to find no one behind him. He'd just been watching the commotion outside his own window, how had he ended up in this creepy place? "Who? Who's behind this?!"

Qian Liugen shouted in a panic, his voice spreading through the fog, but there was no echo.

He mustered his courage and tried to take a few steps forward, but found that he couldn't move any part of his body, and at the same time, he couldn't make a sound.

Lin Yifan stood there, sensing Qian Liugen's panic in the space, a cold smile curling at the corner of his lips. One dealt with, next up was the one in the basement.

With a thought, he teleported behind Chen Zhirong. The basement was dimly lit, with only a dim kerosene lamp on the table, barely illuminating the small space.

Perhaps the basement was well soundproofed, or perhaps Chen Zhirong was too focused on his work, because he didn't notice Lin Yifan until he walked up behind him.

Lin Yifan used the same trick again, and Chen Zhirong was instantly taken into the system space, and the sound of the transmitter stopped abruptly.

After doing all this, he carefully examined the simple basement. Besides the radio transmitter, there were some wooden crates piled up in the corner, with some blurry English labels printed on them.

He didn't touch the telegraph machine or take away the telegram paper; he wanted to leave everything as it was, at least until he dealt with the two people in the space.

He needed to get more information from Qian Liugen and Chen Zhirong about the deaf old woman, about the Special Higher Police, and about the Military Intelligence Bureau's other strongholds in Beiping.

Lin Yifan checked the basement to make sure there were no traces of his presence before returning to his own space and looking at the two Kuomintang agents he had imprisoned.

With a thought, he first moved Chen Zhirong to a distance, then came to Qian Liugen and released him from the linguistic restraint.

As soon as Qian Liugen was able to speak, he roared impatiently, "Lin Yifan? Where is this place? Let me out!"

Lin Yifan looked down at him, his eyes as cold as ice in the dead of winter: "Where this is doesn't matter. What matters is the good deed you, your wife, and that deaf old woman have done!"

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Qian Liugen's eyes flickered as he tried to argue, "We're just ordinary people, law-abiding citizens, we've never done anything immoral!"

"Behave yourself and keep to your own business?" Lin Yifan sneered. He deliberately controlled his vocal cords, his voice not loud, but it carried a chilling pressure. "You tell the Japanese Special Higher Police that my father is 'The Wolf,' and you call that being well-behaved and keeping to your own business?"

To curry favor with the Japanese, you betray your own people. Do you scum even deserve to call yourselves Chinese?

Upon hearing the words "Canglang," Qian Liugen's face turned deathly pale, as if he had seen a ghost.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but found his throat felt blocked, and he couldn't utter a single word. He never imagined that this teenager would know such a confidential matter!

Seeing his terrified expression, Lin Yifan continued, "Don't think you've covered your tracks perfectly. That so-called 'safe house' you exposed to the Special Higher Police was just a hideout for yourselves and this deaf old woman, wasn't it? Too bad, the Japanese didn't manage to capture my father as you wished."

He paused, his tone full of sarcasm: "And that Chen Zhirong, he's probably busy currying favor with his Military Intelligence Bureau headquarters right now, isn't he? Selling information about your own compatriots to the Japanese, then reporting it to your own organization—you guys are really shrewd!"

Qian Liugen trembled all over, his clothes soaked with cold sweat. He knew that the child before him had seen through everything, and any attempt to argue would be futile.

He repeatedly pleaded for mercy, saying, "Young...Young master, spare my life! Young master, spare my life! It was all that old lady's idea!"

His son is our boss, we had no choice! Please, have mercy on us and spare our lives! We'll never do it again!

Lin Yifan looked at his pathetic, groveling behavior without a flicker of emotion: "Now you know how to beg for mercy? When you betrayed my parents, didn't you ever think this day would come?"

"We...we were also blinded by lard! Bewitched by the deaf old woman!" Qian Liugen cried bitterly, trying to shift all the blame onto others.

"Young master, you are a god-like figure, you are magnanimous, please spare us this time! We are willing to serve you like slaves to repay your kindness in sparing our lives!"

Lin Yifan slowly shook his head: "Some mistakes, once made, have no turning back. I'll take your lives today."

Upon hearing this, Qian Liugen's crying stopped abruptly, his face drained of color, and his eyes filled with despair. He knew that he was truly going to die this time.

Lin Yifan ignored Qian Liugen and, with a thought, imprisoned his language ability as well. Then he turned and walked towards Chen Zhirong, whom he had moved to a distance.

Chen Zhirong was also released from the language ban by Lin Yifan. When he saw Lin Yifan walking towards him, his eyes were filled with vigilance and fear.

Although he was separated from the group, he vaguely heard Qian Liugen's cries and Lin Yifan's questioning.

"You... what do you want?" Chen Zhirong tried to remain calm, but his tone was fierce yet weak. "Let me tell you, I'm from the Military Intelligence Bureau! If you dare touch me, the Military Intelligence Bureau won't let you get away with it!"

Lin Yifan laughed as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world: "Military Intelligence Bureau? You guys are just stabs in the back and betrays your compatriots?"

"You dare threaten me? Besides, with my methods, why would I be afraid of your Military Intelligence Bureau? I think you're overthinking it! If it weren't for the fact that some of you are still fighting against the Japanese... heh..."
