Noxus Glory

Chapter 88 The Immortal Fortress, the Capital of Noxus

Chapter 88 The Immortal Fortress, the Capital of Noxus

The Noxian Empire, in its central heartland.

On the vast, flat, deep green plain, a towering capital city, immeasurably high, sits in the most prominent position, like an ancient giant lying in a coil.

Looking into the distance, the dark gray city walls seemed to pierce through the clouds, blocking the prying eyes of all forces, while countless crimson imperial flags hung down along the walls.

As the winter wind blows, a continuous red wave surges forth.

This is the capital of Noxus—

Immortal Fortress!

Its history predates this empire, and legend has it that it was ordered to be built by the terrifying ghost Mordekaiser.

However, many parts of it have now been completely leveled and gradually rebuilt over the past few centuries, eventually forming the Noxian capital as we know it today.

Outside the walls of the capital, there are many buildings of varying heights, some of which are below ground level and hidden underground.

They are slums that exist in the capital of Noxus, the darkest place at the bottom of society.

"Stop looking, DeWitt!"

Inside the hill camp, Huo Jixing walked to a protruding boulder, patted DeWitt on the shoulder, and spoke.

"Breaking news: the suppression in the capital is almost over."

"I estimate that after a little longer, we'll be able to enter and leave the capital."

After the war with the Winter's Claw tribe ended.

Under General Darius's orders, they spent considerable time on the northern border of the Empire to prevent Sejuani from suddenly returning and attacking the border cities.

The end result was that time was wasted for no reason.

However, it wasn't without its advantages; the warbands, having just experienced the war, were given ample time to recuperate, and their combat strength remained intact.

General Darius then received an order to withdraw his troops, signed by Jericho Swain.

It is hoped that Darius will lead the Northern War Group back to the Immortal Fortress quickly to 'protect' the nobles troubled by the turmoil.

Although Swain staged a coup overnight, many noble families still reside within the Immortal Fortress.

They began to stir, and many coveted the position of ruler of Noxus.

Afterwards, Hoji Star and his squad members received orders to follow General Darius and the Northern War Group back to the Noxian capital via the Noxtorra.

Perhaps it was a protest by the nobility, or perhaps it was a compromise by Swain.

In short, of the returning Northland battle groups, only a small number of chapters entered the Immortal Citadel to enforce martial law and control key transportation routes, while the majority of the chapters remained stationed outside the high walls.

Huo Jixing and his team arrived at the Noxian camp on the hill.

Before leaving the northern border, he had intended to say goodbye to the Gregorys and see if he could meet the newborn Anne.

Unfortunately, the subsequent battlefield management took a considerable amount of time.

Furthermore, with Swain's order to withdraw his troops, he had no choice but to obey the military command and come to the outskirts of Noxus.

"And this [Trefuli Announcement], would you like to take a look?" Huo Jixing placed the grayish-white paper in his hand in front of DeWitt.

"【Cui Fali's Announcement】?"

DeWitt withdrew his gaze from the distance, looking puzzled, and took the grayish-white paper in front of him, examining it carefully.

A moment later, DeWitt's gaze fell on the last line of the announcement, and he murmured softly.

"A citizen?"

"Wilson brought this; the information is highly reliable." Huo Jixing gazed at the layered buildings with their dark gray walls in the distance, his eyes filled with a deep, unsettling light.

The slums of the Immortal Fortress: darkness beneath the surface of prosperity!

It represents hunger and poverty, disease and plague.

It is also the birthplace of De Wit.

Most of the people living in the slums do not have Noxian citizenship. They can only rely on their physical labor to obtain meager food and a little space to survive.

"Once you receive your reward, you can bring your family into the Immortal Fortress!"

Upon hearing Huo Jixing's words, the sadness deep in DeWitt's eyes dissipated considerably, and a hint of joy appeared on his face.

"Thank you, Sergeant!"

Hojixing rubbed DeWitt's head. This young scout had spent quite some time on the northern border and had already earned enough merits on the battlefield of Freljord.

With citizenship, entering the Immortal Fortress is quite easy.

"Let's go back first. I'll ask Wilson for details when he comes next time!" Huo Jixing led DeWitt back to the camp.

Compared to the camps on the northern border, this camp guarding the immortal fortress was much more heavily fortified.

As an elite scout of De Witt, he needed to provide proof of his presence and the signature of the warband centurion to enter and leave.

However, with Huo Jixing accompanying them, these tedious procedures were avoided.

Huo Jixing is no longer the same person he was when he was a recruit.

Aside from being a superhuman himself, Darius highly valued him because of his performance in the second battle of Freljord and the merits he gained from the victory.

Although his position remains that of a deputy, Wilson indicated that he would receive a special reward from the Trifalley Council.

The specific details of the rewards have not yet been determined.

Beyond the camp's iron gate, one is greeted by narrow, secluded streets and densely packed, stately houses.

Even during the day, the environment appears dim.

The Immortal Fortress was an important military facility of the Noxian Empire hundreds of years ago, so the camp guarding it wouldn't seem too shabby.

Walking along the narrow streets, you can see Noxian soldiers everywhere, clad in armor and with solemn expressions, ready for battle at any moment.

News of Swain's coup had spread throughout the Noxian Empire.

Most of the Noxian soldiers stationed in the camp were brought over by Darius from the Northland Warband, and they also admired Swain.

Their mission was simple: to protect the capital and prevent anyone from plotting rebellion.

Upon seeing Hoji Star, the Noxian soldiers along the way saluted him with somewhat fanatical expressions.

The scene of Kled leading the Noxian Scarlet Cavalry in a charge at the final moments of the Second Battle of Freljord is deeply etched in the souls of the Noxian soldiers who fought there.

It must be said that Krejciech's charge was exceptionally brutal.

However, Hojira's fiery killing prowess was also formidable, winning him the support of many Noxian soldiers.

Huo Jixing kept smiling, gradually getting used to his current celebrity-like status, and he felt a bit like a hero.

In the center of the camp, a two-story dark gray building stands, with dense wall crenellations around the eaves, giving it a solemn and somber style.

Push open the door.

Huo Jixing saw that the sword boy, Heini, was carefully wiping the long sword in his hand, looking completely focused.

In the corner of the room, Korda sat upright in a wooden chair, leaning over as he wrote something.

Of the once-organized scout squad, only a few remain.

"Captain!" Upon seeing Hojixing, the swordsman Heini stood up and greeted him respectfully, then smiled and greeted DeWitt.

"Has it been reforged?" Huo Jixing looked at Heini's longsword and reached out to take it.

The longsword he used before was severely damaged during the Battle of Freljord and could no longer be used, so he had to have the quartermaster make a new one according to the design.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The sharp blade flashed, leaving afterimages in the air.

"As expected of a Noxian craftsman, their skill is truly excellent!"

Huo Jixing examined the long sword in his hand, which resembled a seedling. The blade was much heavier, making it more suitable for his current strength, but it did not affect his agility at all.

The handle features a hammered flame pattern that extends from the handle to the end of the blade.

"I'm going to rest now. Call me when it's time for dinner."

As if remembering something, Huo Jixing sheathed his long sword, hung it at his waist, and walked upstairs to his room.
