Chapter 28 The Vast and Brilliant River of History

Runeterra, also known as Valoran.

In the quiet room, Huo Jixing sat behind his desk, carefully turning the pages of the book in his hands by the light of the bright lamp.

From the prologue onward, he could see a variety of colorful scenes in the book, depicting the landscapes of different places on the continent of Valoran, as well as some fantastical places roughly drawn with lines.

There are some annotations and information at the edges of the text and illustrations.

The handwriting suggests that it was a help from past readers to future generations, enabling them to better understand the content of the books.

"World Runes, Magic!"

Huo Jixing frowned deeply; this was the most frequently mentioned phrase in the annotations.

He seemed to see a vast, winding purple dragon roaming the cosmos, its head bowed, its body radiating boundless runic energy, gradually creating a fantastical and wondrous world.

On the island now known as Ionia, mortals waged a great war against towering giants. Only with the help of the Vastaya Xari—legendary beings with unparalleled divine power who coexisted in both the material and spiritual realms—did the mortals achieve final victory.

Battle of the 8000 Sisters

After defeating the ancient gods of the north, a rift developed between the three sisters, Avarosa, Cyrilda, and Lissandra, which quickly escalated into open conflict. The final battle took place at Lissandra's gates, where she sacrificed the lives of many allies to imprison their enemies within True Ice.

6000 Great Western Migration

The migrants, carrying their ancient knowledge and wisdom, set out from the forgotten lands of the far east and landed on the eastern coast of Shurima and Valoran. In time, their descendants will rule over some of the most renowned civilizations in the history of Runeterra.

Rise of 5000 God Warriors

In preparation for a mysterious future war, the Protoss guided mortals to erect the Sun Disc in Narimar, Shurima, creating the first Ascended. These noble beings were revered as gods descended to earth, and the empire they forged would endure for millennia.

2500 Icathians rebel against Shurima

In a desperate attempt to escape the tyranny of the Shurima Empire, Icathia unleashed the Void during the battle. In an instant, Icathia's capital was reduced to ashes, and the surrounding land was corrupted like never before. Even the Ascended Legion, empowered by divine power, could not withstand this terror, and Shurima was forced to abandon Icathia forever.

Azir's downfall in 2000

Because of his despicable betrayal, Azir of Shurima was forever stripped of his divine status and lost to the world along with the Sun Disc. People were filled with fear and grief, and could only turn to the remaining Ascended for refuge.

550 Darkin War

After confronting the Void, the Ascended suffered immense trauma and lost all meaning. Many Ascended became twisted in body and spirit, calling themselves "Darkborn" and gathering armies of mortals to conquer the world. In the end, the instigators of the Celestial Warriors had to intervene and seal the Darkborn within their own cursed weapons.

The Domination of 400 Ironclad Netherworld Souls

Warlord Sarn Uzul deceived the mages who resurrected him, and was reborn as the Ironclad Wraith. He began his conquests from his immortal fortress, and although it took nearly three hundred years, he was eventually defeated by a coalition of Noxian tribes, who then took control of the empire he had established.

25 Curse of Ruin

Deep beneath the earth of Helia on Blessed Light Island, a terrible accident occurred, shattering the barrier between the material and spiritual realms. The souls of the dead were imprisoned in eternal torment by the swirling black mist. From then on, Blessed Light became a shadow, a desolate place that no mortal with a modicum of reason would ever approach.

13 Rune Wars

With the fall of Hyria, dangerous magical artifacts began to fall into the hands of those with ill intentions. In the fields outside the village of Koholm, the famous mage Tyrus and his apprentice Ryze witnessed the beginning of the Rune Wars. The earth-shattering impact became Ryze's inescapable nightmare, forever haunting his inhumanly long life.

0 Noxus Undying

The Rune Wars escalated, engulfing much of the known world in flames. After more than a decade of apocalyptic warfare, the last Noxian were forced to retreat into the Immortal Fortress, hoping to find refuge from the magical calamity. When they emerged again, the distant lands were ravaged. But they survived. The survivors merged into a unified tribe, and the Noxians were replaced by Noxus, beginning their new calendar.

292 Demacia reigns supreme

Far to the west, in the nation founded by the great hero Oren, their first king was crowned. Demacia was originally a gathering place for refugees from the Rune Wars, and it is said to have become a sacred place forever untouched by magic.

349 Noxus Empire

Noxus launched a series of military takeovers, and Lungmen fell into the hands of the Empire. The Empire's power grew with its ambition, and the nobles of the Empire swore that even after a thousand years, they would unite all the forces of Runeterra under one banner. They also elected a Grand Commander to lead the Empire's warbands to victory.

The Piltover Tragedy of 772

Merchants who traded between Valoran and Shurima undertook extensive construction projects, building vast canals and teleporters. However, the excavation of the "Sun Gate" destroyed Zaun's ancient port, ultimately plunging the entire city into a dark, underground cavern.

More and more treasure hunters were washed ashore, and the messengers of Baju granted the southern bay to these outsiders as a refuge. Although the culture here had been mixed and difficult to understand for many years—even the name of the Python Islands was not agreed upon—this settlement would eventually develop into a prosperous port city by its own strength.
