As I came out of the village committee, the crowd recoiled as if a pot had been boiled over, their eyes filled with a mixture of amusement and something else entirely—surprise, doubt, and some even shrank back as if afraid I would come after them.

Zhang Ga was also squeezed into the crowd, his face as red as an eggplant. When he saw me come out, he muttered "Impossible" under his breath, but his feet seemed to be covered in oil, and he disappeared in a flash.

The Yin-Yang Dog had been squatting at the door waiting for me. When I came out, it flicked its tail, and its red and green eyes swept across the crowd. Its sinister aura frightened several old ladies nearby, who quickly covered their grandsons' eyes.

"That old policeman is a sensible man; he didn't take it seriously."

The little fox's voice echoed in my mind.

Even a sensible person can't outmaneuver this bunch of fools in the village.

I thought to myself, and started walking home.

"Especially that brainless leader, he'll cause a big disaster sooner or later."

When I got home, my dad was squatting by the stove tending the fire. When he saw me come back, he paused for a moment while holding the fire poker.

"Why are you back so soon? I hope I didn't make things difficult for you?"

"Director Chen is a sensible man, nothing serious happened."

"Dad, although that deadlock is over, I still feel uneasy, especially about those leaders from above. Who knows what kind of trouble they might cause."

My father sighed and added some firewood to the stove.

"What can we do? We ordinary people can only listen to what the higher-ups say."

I didn't say anything more, but my heart felt like it was weighed down by a stone.

The creature buried beneath the foundation pit is no ordinary evil spirit; it is a flying zombie, a once-in-a-century occurrence!

Flying zombies are a hundred times more powerful than ordinary walking zombies. They are impervious to swords and spears, can take to the air, and can kill people with just a little bit of corpse energy.

Sure enough, early the next morning, the village was in an uproar. The chugging of tractors echoed from the village entrance all the way to the village committee, along with shouts from people and neighing of horses.

I had just taken a couple of bites of breakfast when I heard someone shouting outside the courtyard.

"Thirteen, Thirteen, come out quickly! People from the county have arrived, along with experts. They say they're going to go down into the tomb!"

It was Grandpa Wang from next door; his voice sounded anxious.

My heart skipped a beat, and the bowl in my hand slammed against the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), causing the chopsticks to fall to the ground.

"Dad, something's wrong!"

I jumped up from the kang (a heated brick bed) in a flash.

"They're going down!"

My father also got anxious and put down his pipe.

"What? Go into a tomb? Isn't that suicide?"

I immediately ran out the door.

The Yin-Yang Dog and the little fox had already caught up. The Yin-Yang Dog took off running ahead, its gray fur gleaming in the morning light. The little fox perched on my shoulder, its paws gripping my clothes tightly, and its voice deepened.

"This is a huge problem. If the flying zombies are alerted, the entire Zhujiakan will be in trouble!"

I ran straight to the village committee, where the courtyard was already crowded with people. The people from the county were dressed neatly, and a few of them were wearing glasses and holding notebooks and measuring tapes. They looked like experts.

"Thirteen, you've finally arrived!"

When Brother San saw me, he quickly called out to me.

"Brother Sanlu, is Xiaoxiao alright?"

"It's alright. The county leaders said there's a tomb down there and they wanted to go take a look. That's why they brought the experts here. They approved the land for me, but if there really is a tomb, they'll have to approve another plot of land for me."

"Oh, I see. It's good that Xiaoxiao is alright. Brother Sanlu, there really is a grave down there."

"What? Thirteen, you're not kidding me, are you?"

"I didn't believe them even when they said they had it."

"It really exists, and there's a big problem with it."

After I finished speaking, I squeezed right in front of the expert and said urgently.

"Experts, we can't go down into this tomb! It's not just ordinary burial goods inside; it's a centuries-old flying zombie, impervious to swords and spears, and capable of harming people. Going down there is suicide!"

The experts exchanged glances. One of them, an older expert wearing gold-rimmed glasses, pushed up his glasses, looked me up and down, and curled his lips in a disdainful smile.

"Young man, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. What flying zombie? That's feudal superstition! We are a scientific expedition team, we only believe in science. There might be important cultural relics down there, which are of great significance to the study of local history."

"science?"

I laughed in anger, and raised my voice.

"Wait until you get bitten by those flying zombies and become walking zombies, then let's see if you'll still talk about science! The master in that grave has become powerful; his corpse aura is so strong it can poison people. That's how the walking zombies in the village came about!"

"Young man, how can you talk like that?"

Another young expert frowned.

"We were assigned by the county, and everything is done according to scientific procedures. We don't need a country bumpkin like you to interfere."

"I'm not giving orders, I just don't want to see you all die!"

I took a step forward, but was stopped by a person in uniform next to me.

At this moment, Brother Sanlv came over, patted my shoulder, and had a fake smile on his face.

"Thirteen, don't get excited. The experts are all knowledgeable people."

"Brother Sanlu, this is no joke!"

I shook off his hand.

"This has nothing to do with learning; it's suicide. You're guaranteed to die if you go down there."

"Thirteen, look at the situation. This tomb must be taken down today. If you stop us, you'll be going against the county!"

"I'm not going against the county; I just don't want to see the villagers suffer!"

I shouted with my neck stiffened, but the surrounding villagers all lowered their heads and no one dared to utter a sound.

Looking at this group of people, I felt utterly disheartened.

I told them how dangerous the flying zombies were and how dangerous it was to go down into the tomb, but they didn't dare to say anything. They were just looking at the experts' expressions, afraid of getting into trouble.

My voice, amidst the cacophony of the courtyard, sounded so thin and so futile.

The elderly expert, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, cleared his throat and addressed the people around him.

"Don't worry, everyone. We are a professional expedition team with advanced equipment and scientific methods. There will be absolutely no problems. This tomb raiding will not only protect the cultural relics but also unravel the mystery of the village's zombie outbreak, which will benefit everyone."

As soon as these words were spoken, a few scattered voices of agreement arose from the crowd, and some even shouted.

"The experts are right! Let's go down into the tomb quickly! Solving the mystery will put our minds at ease!"

"Yes, it's the new Chinese calendar now, we have to trust science."

Looking at those numb faces, I trembled with anger.

The little fox was gritting its teeth on my shoulder.

"These idiots, they only know fear after something bad happens!"

"Prepare to enter the tomb!"

The old expert waved his hand and immediately led the men carrying tools toward the construction site at the west end of the village.

I stood there, watching their backs as they walked away, my heart feeling like it was being cut by a knife.

I know that once they leave, they may never come back.

How could ordinary people like them possibly deal with those century-old flying zombies?

"Thirteen, what should we do?"

My father walked to my side, his voice trembling.

"Even though they won't listen to advice, they are still living beings."

"We can't just watch them go and die, can we?"

"Father, they're determined to die, what am I supposed to do?"

"People only realize their own limitations when they suffer losses and hit a wall."

"Thirteen, that's one way of putting it, but think about it from a different perspective."

"Isn't the starting point of people going to the grave a good one?"

"Your line of work is destined to be misunderstood by many, especially by those with formal education."

"But what is your purpose in doing this?"

"It's about spiritual practice, cultivating your mind, doing good deeds to accumulate merit. Even if they have a million faults, you still have to take care of them. Firstly, it's about accumulating merit for yourself, and secondly, everyone has a heart, and there will always be people who understand."

I looked at my father, unable to believe that he, who was completely illiterate, could say such things.

"Father, you're right."

"Go home and keep an eye on my mother. Don't let her out."

I gritted my teeth.

I think my dad is right. When it comes to life and work, we should only seek to have a clear conscience. Why care about other people's opinions? Living in other people's eyes will eventually lead to losing yourself.

"What do you want to do? Force your way in?"

The little fox's voice echoed in my mind, carrying a hint of surprise and barely perceptible excitement.

"We have to force our way in, whether we like it or not!"

"If the flying zombies really appear, the entire Zhujiakan will be doomed. I'm a shaman, this is my destiny, I have to go!"

"Hahaha, kid, those two really have good taste. Very well, I'll take you on."

"What the hell? What are you talking about, old man?"

I looked at the little fox with a puzzled expression. A cloud of black mist enveloped it, and in the blink of an eye, a phantom appeared in front of me.

A robust middle-aged man, bald, wearing sunglasses, and with a thick, golden chain around his neck, looked like gold.

He was wearing a black fur coat with no lining, revealing his dark skin.

"this…………"

I was stunned and speechless.

"What? Am I not handsome?"

"So handsome...so handsome..."

"Alright, let's go."

"I'll go with you and see what happens."

After saying that, the phantom disappeared, and the little fox's dark eyes stared at me.

I paused for a moment to calm myself down.

He immediately ran towards the construction site at the west end of the village.

The Yin-Yang Dog followed behind me, its four hooves pounding the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

I am Li Shisan, a shaman from Zhujiakan. I am here to protect this village and these people, even if they are confused or ungrateful, I will still protect them.

The construction site at the west end of the village had long been fenced off. Experts and their team had already dug a large hole in the foundation pit. A chilling cold emanated from the dark opening, even stronger than the cold air emanating from the previous corpses, and even the surrounding trees were frostbitten and wilted.

The expert, holding a flashlight, was the first to try and crawl into the hole, but I quickly called him to stop.

"Old expert, don't go down! There really are flying zombies inside!"

The expert turned around and glared at me.

"Young man, are you still not done? If you dare cause trouble again, I'll have you tied up!"

"Young man, if you keep doing this, we'll call the police!"

Just then, a series of "crackling" sounds came from inside the cave, like the sound of bones grinding together. Immediately afterwards, an even stronger stench of corpses wafted out of the cave, even worse than the smell of the zombies before. The stench made the people around cover their noses, and some even vomited on the spot.

What was that sound?

The investigation team paused, their flashlights momentarily flashing, and their arrogance lessened.

My heart sank. Oh no, the flying zombies have been alerted!

"It's a flying zombie! It's awake!"

"Get out of here! Everyone, get out of here right now!"

But it was too late. Suddenly, a pitch-black hand reached out from the cave. The fingernails on that hand were half a foot long and gleamed coldly. It grabbed the arm of a young expert who was closest to the cave entrance!

"what!"

The young expert let out a piercing scream. The hand was incredibly strong, dragging him directly into the hole, and the tool in his hand fell to the ground.

He kept shouting.

"Help! Help me!"

Those present turned pale with fright, and their flashlights fell to the ground with a clatter, their bizarre beams swaying wildly on the floor.

Everyone else panicked and turned to run, but their feet seemed to be nailed to the ground, and they couldn't move an inch.

"Let him go!"

The flying zombie completely ignored me and dragged the young expert into the cave. Immediately afterward, a sound of bones breaking came from inside the cave, and then there was no more sound.

The people around were stunned, frozen in place, and even forgot to cry.

"Flying zombie...it really is a flying zombie..."

I stared at the dark entrance of the cave, and my heart sank to the bottom.

Just then, the cold air inside the cave suddenly surged, and then a tall and handsome figure jumped out.

It seems that the damage Huang Dalang caused him last time has mostly healed.

The big red rooster swooped over.

But the flying zombie simply raised its hand and grabbed the rooster, which instantly became unresponsive.

I was particularly surprised; this flying zombie was even more powerful than before.

"Run! Everyone run!"

I yelled and shoved a terrified villager next to me.

"Run to the village! Quickly!"

The crowd then realized what was happening and ran back to the village, crying and shouting, each one running faster than a rabbit.

Brother Sanlu also scrambled back, shouting as he went.

"Thirteen, run!"

The flying zombie's gaze swept across the crowd, finally landing on me. A hint of murderous intent flashed in its red lantern-like eyes. Then, it suddenly pushed off the ground, leaped into the air, and pounced towards me!

Its speed was astonishing; I had no time to dodge. The Yin-Yang Dog suddenly rushed up, blocking my way, barking wildly at the flying zombie. A ruthless glint flashed in its red and green eyes.

"Be careful!"

I shouted, and the Yin-Yang Dog grew several times larger.

He's a whole size bigger than when I saw him in Laoheishan.

Without the slightest hesitation, the Yin-Yang Dog pounced, its enormous claws leaving marks on the flying zombie's body.

The Yin-Yang Dog looked at its paws, then licked off the remaining crumbs, looking completely satisfied.

The flying zombie fixed its gaze on the Yin-Yang Dog, and a standoff ensued.

It was only then that I realized everyone around me had left, and only my father and mother were standing beside me.

"Father, Mother, why aren't you leaving?"

Your parents are worried about you!

"Father, Mother, you must leave quickly."

"It's dangerous here, but don't worry, I'll make sure you're safe."

"These flying zombies are no joke."

"Thirteen, be careful."

My father held my mother's hand, but my mother already had two streams of tears flowing down her cheeks.

"Old woman, let's go. We're just wasting time here. Thirteen still needs to look after us!"
