HP: Wormwood and Lightning Wood

Chapter 27 Passing Through the Trapdoor

The moonlight, like a silver veil, enveloped Hogwarts Castle.

West stared at Draco's golden hair as it disappeared around the corner of the corridor, and sighed silently.

He wasn't going to sit idly by and wait to die. If Harry insisted on going, he would have no choice but to go with him.

Draco, Hermione, and Ron will not let Harry act alone.

When West caught up with the children, he found them confronting Peeves.

He then remembered that Harry's Invisibility Cloak was still with him.

"You little brats," Peeves chuckled, his shrill voice booming through the empty corridor, "I'm going to tell Filch about your nighttime outings!"

Harry's fingertips, gripping his wand, turned white, and his eyes flashed with ferocity. Just as he was about to utter the spell, he was interrupted by a cold, clear voice.

"They'll all turn to petrification."

The smile on Pippi's face froze, like a comical statue, before he collapsed to the ground with a thud and remained motionless.

Hermione exclaimed in surprise, "West!"

"I knew it, how could West let you go there alone?" Ron muttered under his breath.

Harry's tightly pursed lips were pale in the moonlight, like those of a stubborn lion cub. After a long pause, he finally said, "I won't go back."

West glanced at him, then walked up the steps first. "Did I tell you to go back?"

Harry looked up abruptly, his eyes wide, a broad smile spreading across his face. "West! I knew you were the best!"

With West around, the four of them felt more at ease.

A few minutes later, they arrived outside the corridor on the fourth floor.

The door was already ajar.

"See?" Harry whispered. "Quirok has made it past Fluffy."

Seeing that door, they seemed to realize even more clearly what they were about to face.

Draco began to have second thoughts, but seeing the others trying to remain calm, he gritted his teeth and endured it.

Only West was truly not nervous.

He looked nonchalant and completely at ease as he reached out and pushed open the door.

With the creaking sound of the door opening, a low, ferocious bark immediately rang in their ears. The enormous three-headed dog stared at them with its six scarlet eyes wide open, drool dripping incessantly from its gaping maw.

West narrowed his eyes. He remembered that the dog had bitten Snape.

Unfortunately, Harry and the others were still there, so there was nothing he could do.

"What's at its feet?" Hermione asked.

"A harp," Ron said, "must have been left by Quirrell."

West flicked his wrist, and his wand emitted a white light that landed on the harp, which then began to play automatically.

As the beautiful music played, the three-headed dog's eyelids slowly drooped, it stopped barking, and with a thud, it fell to the ground and fell into a deep sleep.

The four men looked at West with admiration, then held their breath and tiptoed toward the trapdoor.

Harry opened the trapdoor; it was pitch black below. He asked, "Who wants to go down first?"

West used a little magic to detect the situation below, and then without hesitation kicked Harry. "It's you, Harry, of course."

Harry slid down the hole, his screams swallowed by the darkness.

With a thud, Harry's shout came from below, tinged with gritted teeth, "No problem! You can jump now."

West looked at Ron, who swallowed hard and jumped down before West could lift his foot, followed by Draco and Hermione.

West was the last to jump, the cold, damp air whistling past his ears. After a while, he landed on a soft patch of vegetation.

As he came down, Hermione was screaming, "You three, come out here right now!"

Hermione had broken free of the vines and was standing to the side calling out anxiously. The three boys, whose legs were entangled in the vines, were struggling and tearing at each other, and the scene was chaotic for a moment.

West raised his wand, and a green flame shot out from the tip, burning the Devil's Web to ashes, and all four of them fell to the ground.

"Yes! This is the Devil's Web! It's afraid of fire!" Hermione exclaimed in realization.

"You remember now," Ron complained, earning a fierce glare from Hermione.

"This way." Harry remembered that Draco was afraid of the dark, so he took Draco's hand and pointed to a stone corridor.

They came to the end of the corridor, where a brightly lit room with a high ceiling stood before them.

Countless dazzling little birds fluttered their wings, dancing in the shimmering light. Opposite them stood a heavy wooden door.

West looked at the birds and realized they weren't birds at all, but keys with wings.

"Should we go over there? Will these birds attack us?" Draco asked hesitantly.

"These are the keys," West said in a low voice. "I reckon one of them can open the wooden door."

Ron exclaimed incredulously, "How are we supposed to find all these keys?"

He refused to believe it, shielded his face with his arm, and rushed to the wooden door. Hermione followed closely behind and cast an Alohomora charm on the door, but the door did not budge.

"Looks like we really need to find the key," Hermione murmured.

Harry had already noticed the flying broomstick in the corner. He picked it up and asked, "What kind of key are we looking for?"

Draco, not to be outdone, also picked up a flying broom and followed Harry.

"Okay," Ron said, "we need to find an old key, probably silver, shaped like a doorknob." He examined the lock on the wooden door closely.

West leaned against the stone wall, watching them solve the puzzle.

It seems that the challenges Dumbledore and his crew set up for the Philosopher's Stone were all meant to be tests, and so far there are no mechanisms that could threaten one's life.

The only danger might be Quirrell, who could appear at any time.

West narrowed his eyes, warily surveying his surroundings.

Over here, Harry and Draco have already risen into the air.

"Harry, shall we have a contest to see who finds the key first?" Draco raised an eyebrow, his grey-blue eyes blazing with fighting spirit.

"Of course!" Harry said defiantly, grinning broadly.

Harry carefully searched for the colorful little wings in the air and flew among them.

A moment later, he noticed a large silver key with its wings drooping, as if it had been grabbed and roughly shoved into the keyhole.

Harry swooped down toward the key, and Draco reacted quickly, following closely behind.

The two of them surrounded the key, but Harry was faster. Just as he was about to press the key against the wall, he caught a glimpse of Draco's tense, pale face and subtly pushed it forward with his fingertips.

He spun the key a few times, and it landed dizzily in Draco's hand.

Draco gripped the keys tightly, raised his hand in triumph, and shouted, "Harry! I won!"

Harry landed with Draco, a smile playing on his lips, and said sincerely, "Draco, you're amazing!"

"If I become a Seeker, I'll definitely be better than you!"

"I believe in Draco!"

West/Hermione/Ron: "..."

What's going on here? West sighed, realizing that Harry was somewhat of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Hermione's eyes widened, switching back and forth between Harry and Draco. "Boys..."

Ron looked confused. "You two, stop talking and open the door!"
