Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 76: One person was caught.

Yu Meng went downstairs, called the two people to Dali's room, and recounted Dali's ordeal to them in detail. Finally, she shared her and Dali's speculations.

Li Yiqing hadn't expected this to happen. "Aren't you going to tell anyone about this?"

"Can Chu Jiao admit it? Do we have any evidence? If we just speak without proof, we might be falsely accused of spreading rumors, and then we'd be the ones who are guilty. They definitely won't let us off easily then." Yu Meng looked at Li Yiqing. "I told you all this because I trust you."

"I will never betray your trust. Besides, we are relatives in every way, we are connected by blood." Li Yiqing stated.

Once things were out in the open, things became much easier. Li Yiqing truly lived up to his reputation as a leader; his abilities were exceptional. He walked around the building, pointing out several easily defensible and difficult-to-attack spots. He then went outside and pointed out the most likely routes that bad guys would take if they came.

Yu Meng and Jiang Mingfeng followed along. Yu Meng admired the man a bit. He had strong organizational skills and a keen eye, and he also had many suggestions on some inconspicuous things.

Yu Meng quietly kicked Jiang Mingfeng, saying, "You should learn from your cousin." She didn't finish the sentence. She had to save face for her older sister. Otherwise, wouldn't it imply that her sister had poor taste?

Jiang Mingfeng, being good-natured, replied, "I know."

After all that commotion, it was already dark. Jiang Mingfeng took Li Yiqing away, saying they would sleep at his house. Yu Meng didn't insist they stay; after a few polite words, she let them go.

Back at Jiang Mingfeng's house, the two of them were clearly much more relaxed. "Cousin, don't you feel a little hesitant to be too casual in front of your little sister?"

"Oh, really? I don't feel anything."

Looking at his current state, Jiang Mingfeng said, "Just now, I don't know who let out a long sigh of relief."

"You brat, you see through it but don't say it, understand?" Li Yiqing sat there and kicked Jiang Mingfeng.

"Okay. Let's go wash up quickly so we can get some sleep. I'm so sleepy." Jiang Mingfeng yawned and left.

Li Yiqing sat in his chair for a long time without moving. Judging from Yu Meng's attitude today, it seemed that this matter had not affected their cooperation.

If their relationship ends because of this, it would be his biggest loss.

As soon as he relaxed, sleepiness came immediately, and the anxiety he had felt for the past few days finally subsided. Little did he know, an even more difficult matter awaited him tomorrow.

After Jiang Mingfeng and the other man left, Yu Meng went upstairs and quietly told her father about it. She also gave him a small weapon containing anesthetic. "In my opinion, this person will probably make his move in the next couple of days. We'll start keeping watch tonight. I didn't let the Zhao brothers go back. They live downstairs, and we'll stay upstairs. Don't let my mother know about this. I'm afraid it will frighten her."

Mr. Yu nodded. "Your mother is easily frightened. Your eldest sister scared her again this time. She was asleep just now, but maybe she had a dream and woke up crying."

At two o'clock in the morning, Yu Meng was woken up by Dali. "Little sister, what's wrong?" Dali's voice was very low, and then she pointed to the curtains, "Right there."

Yu Meng suddenly perked up, picked up something from the bed, closed her eyes, and called to her big black cat.

A meowing sound came from behind. "There's a dark shadow clinging to the wall; I can't tell if it's a person."

Yu Meng was stunned for a moment, wondering if it was even human and if it had to be this terrifying.

Yu Meng sat on the bed without moving, afraid of disturbing the thing. Dali glanced at her and said, "Little sister, are you dreaming? Let me get you a glass of water. Don't be afraid."

Dali deliberately made some noise, and Yu Meng looked at Dali in confusion, but did not forget to make a nasal "hmm".

Dali walked to the table and actually poured a glass of water. The sound of pouring water was quite loud in the night, and Yu Meng took the opportunity to go to the wall by the window. Dali gave her a thumbs up, and the two sisters smiled at each other.

Yu Meng felt like a long time had passed. She looked at her older sister, Dali, who shook her head at her. At this moment, Dali was very steady.

They only have this one chance. If they let him go, they'll probably live in constant fear from now on, because you never know when he might come back.

It was clear that the people outside the wall were very patient. Finally, as dawn broke, the big black cat outside brought news: "That thing moved, towards the window."

Yu Meng suddenly pointed to the curtains, and Dali immediately understood. The two of them raised the anesthetic in their hands, aimed it at the window, held their breath, and Black Cat and Yu Meng simultaneously whispered, "Release."

The sound of a machine clicked, followed by a scream and a thud as the lights on the first floor came on. Zhao Changsheng rushed out first and injected the unidentified object on the ground with an anesthetic. Yu Meng had said that whatever it was, just give it a shot first; it was just an anesthetic, it wouldn't kill it.

The thing on the ground twitched slightly, then remained completely still.

Yu Meng and Dali went downstairs. Dali held onto Yu Meng and didn't go forward. "Anyway, it's almost dawn, so we'll just stay here and keep watch. If he moves, we'll give him another whack, and then we'll deal with it when my cousin arrives."

"I know where my brother-in-law lives, I'll go get him," Zhao Changjiu said from the side.

"Brother Changjiu, I'll go with you. We'll keep each other company." Yu Hai said as he put on a piece of clothing.

"Okay, you two go together. Be careful. If anything happens, shout 'Fire!' you hear me?" Dali reminded her from the side.

The two agreed and ran out.

Yu Meng's heart was pounding; this was her first time actually doing it.

"Are you scared?" Dali patted Yu Meng gently. "The first time I went into the mountains with them, when that huge thing fell down, I couldn't breathe. If Mingfeng hadn't been shouting at me, I might never have made it out of there."

"You didn't even tell your father about this?" Mr. Yu's voice rang out behind them.

"dad."

"Dad, why are you down here too? Mom's awake too," Yu Meng asked.

"If I hadn't come down, how would I have known that I almost lost a girl?" Father Yu glared fiercely at Dali.

"Don't they say that fortune and misfortune are intertwined? I'm fortunate right now," Dali said, tugging at Yu's father's arm in a flattering manner.

"What is this? Is it a person?"

"I don't know, let's wait for Mingfeng and my cousin to arrive. Dad, you go upstairs first, it wouldn't be good if Mom found out," Dali advised.

Yu Meng nodded in agreement, "Then the flood will be at its worst again."

Mr. Yu was eventually persuaded to leave.

Zhao Changjiu and Yu Hai arrived at Jiang Mingfeng's house, panting.

Li Yiqing felt like he had just fallen asleep when the loud knocking on the door woke him up. "Mingfeng, go open the door and see who it is. It's not even dawn yet. What can't wait until daylight?" Li Yiqing turned over but didn't hear a response.

Li Yiqing had no choice but to get up himself. What a mess! He was just going to his aunt's house for a nap, and now he had to deal with the guests outside.

As soon as the door opened, Jiang Mingfeng led Yu Hai and Zhao Changjiu in. "Cousin, Haizi said they caught someone, and Dali wants us to go with them."
