Why did you provoke me?
Chapter 422 Communication
Niannian was also bewildered, "I don't know either, anyway, my lines have never had any problems."
She looked at Yu Meng. Teacher Feng followed her gaze and looked at Yu Meng as well.
Yu Meng didn't answer, but instead asked, "Teacher Feng, can your lines absorb energy?"
Teacher Feng sighed, "I'm not afraid to admit it, but I really did have this idea and tried many methods. But, like a child throwing a tantrum, it won't listen to me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."
Looking at Niannian's little gray straw, Teacher Feng felt a deep envy. "I wish I could do that too."
"Your lines didn't absorb energy, so how did you advance?" Niannian and Yumeng were both surprised, as their lines advanced by absorbing energy.
Teacher Feng was also surprised, "You advanced by absorbing energy?"
Yu Meng and Niannian both nodded.
"My advancement..." Teacher Feng smiled bitterly, "You have no idea what I went through, how difficult it was to reach my current level."
"Can you tell me about it?" Yu Meng seemed not to have noticed Teacher Feng's感慨 (feelings/reflections).
"Sure. But judging from your progress speed, it probably won't be of much help to you."
"I just want to learn from it and prepare for the future." Yu Meng did not hide her ambition.
Teacher Feng couldn't help but chuckle. "It's good to be young; you still have the energy and drive to dream big."
Niannian picked up the conversation, "Teacher Feng, is this kind of advancement method a tradition passed down in your lineage? Is it alright to say it out loud?"
"We're exchanging ideas, so it's fine. Even if you use the same method in the future, we won't pursue the matter."
"Why? Isn't it said that you can only learn after you've become an apprentice?"
Teacher Feng chuckled, "I will keep a record of our exchange so that future students can learn from it. It's like filing a record."
Niannian continued, "So, what aspects of us are you interested in?"
Teacher Feng smiled genuinely, "Absorbing energy can advance you, of course I'm interested in that."
Niannian glanced at Yu Meng and said, "This isn't actually that difficult; you just need to find that point."
"So, you're willing to teach me?"
Niannian suddenly realized she had been talking too much. "I can do this myself, but I can't teach others."
"It's alright, you just need to explain the principles. Our basic cultivation methods are different, so your method might not be suitable for me." Teacher Feng didn't insist. As long as she knew a direction, she could figure it out herself.
Upon hearing this, Yu Meng nodded immediately. "There's no secret to it. Teacher Feng is being frank, so we won't hold back either. As for whether we can learn it, we really can't guarantee that. Just like Teacher Feng said, the basic cultivation is different. Once you get to the higher levels, the chances of successfully switching to a different system of advancement are really not high."
After both sides spoke frankly, Ms. Feng directly explained her method.
"Our advancement as Bone Painters should all be the same. My advancement as a Spirit Attacher was purely accidental. That time I went to a rescue, I encountered the biggest crisis yet, with aliens swarming everywhere. You may not have seen it, but the guards who went in with me were instantly parasitized and turned into mindless puppets."
Forced into a corner, my lines split into the smallest shapes, weaving together a thin layer that protected both the person I was rescuing and myself.
Niannian asked curiously, "Did you go alone? Where are the other bone painters?"
"Rescue efforts can't be carried out alone; a total of five bone-drawing masters went."
"Don't interrupt," Yu Meng called out.
She mumbled an "Oh."
Teacher Feng continued, "All the aliens were clinging to my lines. I had no other choice but to tough it out."
Teacher Feng seemed to be lost in memories, "At that time, I only had one belief: unless I died, no one could make me give up."
The alien invasion was incredibly painful; I felt like a million ants were biting my brain. I don't know how much time passed, but then the point in my mind seemed to light up. Finally, it shone as brightly as the sun, and all the ants in my mind evaporated in an instant.
When I woke up, the chains had formed on their own. I went back and researched for a long time before I realized that my lines had been imbued with spirits.
"What about the others?" Niannian's focus was always so unexpected. "Are the people you saved still alive? Where did those aliens go?"
Hearing Niannian's question, Teacher Feng was also stunned. Wasn't this about sharing the advancement of spirit mediums? What's the connection between asking these questions?
Yu Meng glared at Niannian, "Then do you remember how many lines you split into?"
Teacher Feng turned to look at Yu Meng, "I tried that state again afterward, there must have been at least tens of thousands of them, right?"
"What? Tens of thousands?" Niannian exclaimed in surprise, and Yu Meng unconsciously covered her mouth.
"Can our lines split into that many?" Yu Meng thought she was hallucinating.
"Absolutely, and there are more than there are." Teacher Feng nodded affirmatively.
"My goodness, how thin must this line be to have a hundred of them?"
The three of them fell silent, knowing how difficult it was to split lines. But Teacher Feng seemed to take it for granted, saying, "Our lineage focuses on splitting lines, training each split line to resemble the first line. In the end, the more lines you have, the stronger your ability becomes."
Yu Meng's lines were wrapped around her fingers. She wanted to try it now, as she had never tried this direction before.
Teacher Feng immediately saw through Yu Meng's intention, and smiled as she beckoned, "Let me see how your lines are split?"
With someone giving her guidance, Yu Meng certainly wouldn't miss the opportunity. The top of her lines were arranged in a cross shape, with four lines spreading outwards.
Yu Meng looked at Teacher Feng, waiting for her comments, but Teacher Feng seemed out of sorts. Her eyes were fixed on Yu Meng's lines, and she remained silent.
Yu Meng stopped drawing lines in her hand. She softly called out, "Teacher Feng."
After regaining her composure, Teacher Feng shook her head. "I can't guide you. I can't even handle this kind of splitting properly."
"Aren't all lines split like this?" Niannian asked curiously. "My lines are like this too."
Teacher Feng didn't say anything, but directly took out her own lines and divided them into two, then into four, much slower than Yu Meng.
Yu Meng drew one of Teacher Feng's lines and tried to tug-of-war with her own, and the result was evenly matched.
Yu Meng tried a few more, and the result was the same. Yu Meng was impressed; how much effort must have taken to make all the lines identical?
Niannian knew the shortcomings of her lines, so she didn't expose them; she wouldn't humiliate herself!
And just like that, the morning flew by. At noon, Teacher Feng invited them to eat in the tent next door.
Neither Yu Meng nor Niannian refused. They planned to discuss it together that afternoon. After all, Yu Meng hadn't taught them how to absorb energy yet!
In the afternoon, Yu Meng kept her promise and carefully guided Teacher Feng in absorbing the energy from the alien.
Unfortunately, the energy was absorbed, but shortly after entering the lines, the lines reacted, swelling up like a snake swallowing an egg.
Yu Meng quickly had the little black cat step on the lines and put them on the ground. This happened three times before the lines returned to normal.
Teacher Feng patted his chest and said, "I thought I had found a shortcut, but as you all have seen, the basic training is different. At our stage, trying to take shortcuts to advance will only harm yourself."
Yu Meng never expected it to turn out this way.
But it seems she can use the method that Teacher Feng mentioned.
