Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 293: A Bountiful Harvest

At Liu Wei's signal, Zhou Shi frowned and let everyone into the backyard.

The six people stood there staring at each other. Liu Wei chuckled sheepishly and chatted with Zhou Qi, exchanging a few words here and there. Then a strange chirping sound came from the backyard.

Liu Wei looked at Zhou Shi and gestured for him to go take a look. "Captain Zhou, shall we go check it out?"

Zhou Shi instructed the others to guard the front gate, but who knew if anyone else would come?

He followed Liu Wei to the backyard, which was quiet except for a pile of unidentified objects in the middle of the yard.

"You killed them all?" Zhou Shi asked, trembling.

"There shouldn't be any, right?" Liu Wei scratched his head and walked towards the pile of objects.

"He's not dead, he's just unconscious," Jing San's voice rang out from the shadows.

Zhou Shi let out a long sigh and said in a low voice, "Here, you can rob, but it's best not to cause any deaths."

"These are really unfair terms, not giving outsiders any chance at all," Liu Wei complained in a low voice.

"Captain Zhou, what do you think we should do now?"

Zhou Shi calmly said, "Just throw them out. They're just testing the waters; there should be people waiting outside to receive them."

"You'd better be sure, don't throw it out and let it die, then blame it on us."

"No," Zhou Shi affirmed.

"Then let's get to work." A few people came out and threw the man out.

Liu Wei grabbed Zhou Shi, who was about to leave, and said, "Captain Zhou, don't go. The work is all done, we should have some tea."

Zhou Shi looked at him expressionlessly. "Are you sure about this time and place?"

Liu Wei ignored his expression and said, "I'm sure, I'm sure, it won't take long." He then pushed the man into a room.

There was no one in the room, but many things were laid out on the table.

"Come on, Captain Zhou, we're working overtime so late, so let's treat others to our food. Don't be shy, pick out a few things for the brothers to have some tea." Liu Wei walked to the table and pointed to the items on it.

Zhou Shi pursed his lips, unsure of what to say. It was the first time he had ever seen a robber get robbed in return.

"Hey Captain Zhou, let's talk about something. Look, this benefit is readily available. Next time, let's focus on persuasion instead of using force. It's time-consuming and troublesome." Liu Wei tried to persuade the earnest captain.

Zhou Shi nodded almost imperceptibly, then turned and walked out.

Liu Wei grabbed him, "Aren't you going to take some? We can't eat it all by ourselves, that's not right."

Zhou Shi looked at Liu Wei, whose eyes were very sincere.

Zhou Shi scoffed, "Easier said than done, you're just trying to drag me down with you."

Liu Wei didn't object and nodded obediently.

Zhou Shi didn't say much. Even if he didn't give them anything, they were all in the same boat. He grabbed a handful without even looking at what it was, and turned to leave a second time.

Liu Wei didn't go to see it off; he simply sat down at the table and started fiddling with the things on it.

Jing San walked in.

"Next time, please have someone else do this. If it weren't for the lines, I would have been stuttering," Liu Wei complained.

"As long as your team members agree, I have no objection," Jing San replied immediately.

"Aren't your people good enough?"

"Can you believe how loud I am?" Jing San's gloomy voice boomed in Liu Wei's ear.

"They just bully honest people." Liu Wei was at a loss. These people had all experienced the pain of not being completely removed by the alien, and they didn't have that sunny and honest face.

The three men Jing San brought with them, if you want to fight or use dirty tricks, you don't need to tell them; they'll go on their own. But when it comes to dealing with people, their voices are chilling, and their faces are so gloomy they could rain.

"It's getting late, can we still have another round?" Liu Wei changed the subject.

"It shouldn't happen according to normal procedures. Today was just a test. But it seems that normal procedures don't work very well here." Jing San's voice was very soft.

"Who says otherwise? We were just planning to stay here for a few days, and someone actually targeted us, even blatantly coming here to rob us." Liu Wei shook his head. "Third Brother, what do you think Teacher Yu will say when he finds out about this?"

"There's no need to tell Teacher Yu about these little things. She's already so busy, we shouldn't add to her troubles."

"That's what I think too. If we can't even handle this little thing, we're not worthy of being the senior disciples of the Jing generation," Liu Wei nodded in agreement.

Jing San looked at Liu Wei and suddenly realized he might have underestimated the guy. All the ideas came from others; he was just agreeing. How could he have ever thought such a person was stupid?

Having witnessed Liu Wei and his team's strength, Zhou Shi's first line of defense became rather ineffective.

Who knew that a clever person would see through this and actually send Zhou Qi a gift, asking him to make an exception. Zhou Qi was overjoyed, and after pretending to decline a few times, seeing the other party's sincerity, he accepted it. But this guy also knew how to play the game, and directly gave half of it to Liu Wei.

Liu Wei was stunned when he saw what Zhou Qi had brought over. "Is this a good idea? He brought in a gift, and then we snatched it away. Isn't that a bit unethical?"

Zhou Qi was also troubled, "I really didn't accept it the first time, but he added another layer of money and gave me a second one. I refused that one too, but he added more money again, and then this third time. If I don't accept it again, I'm afraid he'll add more money again!"

Si Liu, who was listening to their conversation, spat out his tea.

The two of them turned around at the same time to look at Si Liu. Si Liu hurriedly waved his hand, "I'm not laughing at you. I made a profit on this deal, and I'm happy."

For seven days in a row, people came every night. Si Liu was the happiest, because he loved the sound of money going into his pocket.

But in the following days, only petty thieves came.

Zhou Shi worked as a night watchman. Sometimes, when people came in, he would close his eyes and let them in. Surprisingly, he earned the most money because everyone who came in, regardless of their background, would throw him a small "entrance fee."

Half a month of joyful days passed when Yu Meng sent a message: "Get ready, we're heading back."

Research Institute.

Yu Meng had already treated most of the people in the hall. Apart from the Jing family's guards and Zhang Zhen, she had also taken in a few other patients she had cured, all with similar explanations. She was too lazy to refuse them; after all, she had money now, and these people were true elites, so she wasn't losing out.

Xiao Hong looked at Yu Meng sitting opposite her and asked, "Are you really leaving?"

"Yeah, it's only a matter of time." Yu Meng held her teacup. "If you have anything to say, you'd better hurry, because we don't know when we'll see each other again."

Xiao Hong lowered her head. "I wish we had met sooner. I really can't bear to part with you."

"Let's be realistic, let's meet sooner. Back then I was just a child, would I have even met you then?"

Xiao Hong looked up and glared at her, "Girls, speak more softly."

She took out a small bell she had made herself. "Here, take this as a keepsake."

Yu Meng refused, saying, "I have my own, I don't need yours."

"Take it. This is the only thing I can show off. I even copied it from you." Xiao Hong's smile faded as she repeatedly stroked the bell. In her heart, she muttered to herself, "I'll find you a new owner. I hope she won't be as foolish as me."
