Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 25 Complaining about the small amount of gold coins given

Yu Meng glanced at the large object in front of her, but did not make a move. Instead, she looked directly at Jiang Mingfeng.

"How is the compensation calculated?"

Upon hearing her words, everyone looked up at her.

A cool, clear voice rang out. "10 gold coins."

Yu Meng looked at Dali. Dali immediately understood. "It's two gold coins more than the normal price."

Yu Meng frowned. She had suffered so much, only to earn 10 gold coins; it wasn't worth it.

The cold, clear voice didn't hear Yu Meng's reaction. "A maximum of fifteen."

She knew the price was a bit inflated; at such a crucial moment, there was bound to be room for negotiation.

Yu Meng nodded. Usually, when they want to peel off the skin of something, they need to find the center point. And this center point is the most difficult place to find.

Yu Meng stood there, scanning the area carefully with her eyes. "Huh, no wonder Dali couldn't find it. Its center point has shifted from its original position."

Yu Meng stepped forward. She placed her small hand about a foot away from where Da Li was looking. Then her fingers began to move rhythmically. Everyone stared intently at her hand; success or failure hinged on this moment.

A moment later, Yu Meng gently pulled off the skin in that spot. Da Li, seeing this, hurriedly came over to help.

It took the two of them half an hour to peel off the entire skin.

Dali plopped down on the ground. "Jiang Mingfeng, come over here and massage my legs, they're both numb."

Yu Meng saw two people quickly come over, carefully tie up the peeled dough, and put it into a large box.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. If Yu Meng hadn't come, their situation would have been one of being unable to leave. Letting go was something they were unwilling to do, and they might also face retaliation from the larger group.

Although they paid Yu Meng a lot, they still had a lot left over. Most importantly, they had taken down a large group and successfully exposed the fraudsters, which was a very prestigious achievement.

Yu Meng watched as everyone else was in high spirits. She found a rock to sit on, wondering how to get back.

A fair hand reached out. In it lay 15 gold coins. "Thank you for your help; this is your reward."

Yu Meng carefully placed the gold coins one by one into her pocket. His hand remained still in front of her, motionless. Only after the last coin was taken did he withdraw his hand.

Yu Meng nodded, very satisfied with his attitude.

A cool, clear voice rang out. "If the opportunity arises, I hope to have the chance to cooperate with you again."

Yu Mengyao shook her head. She didn't want to do that kind of thing again. It was too much suffering, and she didn't earn much.

Yu Meng's head shaking clearly startled the visitor. "You think the payment I offered is too little?"

"Suffering."

Yu Meng didn't look up at him. She was sitting, and he was standing; looking up was uncomfortable. If Sister Xiu hadn't been absent, and if it weren't for Dali's jade pendant, she wouldn't have come this time.

The visitor clearly hadn't expected this reason. But there was nothing that could be done about it. It was common knowledge that the mountain roads were difficult to traverse.

"Perhaps we can collaborate elsewhere," the cool voice rang out again.

"Little sister, you'll come with me in a bit," Dali called out to her from the side.

Yu Meng looked up in Dali's direction and nodded.

He then fiddled with the gold coins in his pocket, ignoring the person in front of him.

She's just a kid, no one would say anything if she liked gold coins.

Sure enough, on the way back, Yu Meng started feeling unwell again. This time she rode in a small car that transported people, but many people were sitting together.

Yu Meng covered her nose tightly with a handkerchief; she might as well have just sat in the convertible.

Dali could see her disdain, but there was nothing she could do. These were the conditions, and this was the treatment a mask revealer received.

A convertible needs to carry goods and passengers, so you can imagine that the place wouldn't be very nice.

Dali looked at the sky and saw that it was getting dark. "Little sister, did you leave a note for Mom and Dad?" If she hadn't, Dali didn't even want to think about what might have happened at home.

Yu Meng nodded. Dali breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank goodness, you're reliable." If it were her, she probably wouldn't have kept it; in her haste, she forgot everything.

It was almost nine o'clock when they got back to the village. The lights were still on in the house. The young man leaned against the wall by the front door and, seeing a car approaching, shouted, "Little sister, is that you back?"

Dali responded, "The three of us came back together, along with Jiang Mingfeng."

The young man called out towards the yard, "Dad, Mom, my eldest sister and younger sister are home. Oh, and my brother-in-law is here too."

The car stopped. Yu Hai hurriedly ran to the car and reached out to help his younger sister.

Dali got out of the car first and casually picked up Yu Meng. The big black cat followed behind and jumped down silently as well.

Jiang Mingfeng was driving. He got out of the car, and the group went inside together.

"Have you eaten yet? I'll go get it right away." Dad Yu hurried to the kitchen, and the young man followed him.

Mom grabbed Dali and Yumeng, "How are you two? Are you hurt? Why is Xiaosi's face so pale? Is she hurt somewhere?" Her voice was choked with sobs.

"Mom, sit down first, we're all fine. Little sister, that's because she's carsick." Dali helped her mother to a chair.

"Auntie, they're all fine, I'm here for you," Jiang Mingfeng said from the side.

Mom wiped away her tears. "Little Si said she went to Qingya Mountain to see Big Sister and told us not to worry, she'd be back later. You tell me, something must have happened to Dali, otherwise why would she go?"

"Mom, everything's alright now. Once my little sister went, everything was resolved, and we even made a lot of money this time," Dali comforted her mother.

Yu Meng had already washed her face and changed her clothes by then.

She stuffed all the gold coins in her hand into her mother's hand.

The mother stared wide-eyed at the gold coins in her hand. "You earned all of this," Yu Meng said with a smile and a nod.

When the children were young, the family could save up one gold coin a year, which was considered a very good year.

Is his fourth son a reincarnation of the God of Wealth? How did he manage to appear on this trip and bring back such a large amount of gold coins?

Yu Ma looked up at Jiang Mingfeng.

Jiang Mingfeng explained, "Xiao Mei is a specially hired rescuer. She gets paid regardless of whether she succeeds or not, but if she succeeds, she will get even more money."

The mother looked at Yu Meng and said, "Then you've succeeded." Yu Meng puffed out her little chest and nodded proudly.

"This little sister is very capable," Jiang Mingfeng said from the side. It was also the first time Jiang Mingfeng had seen Yu Meng in action, and he hadn't expected her to be even more powerful than Dali.

His in-laws are going to be something special. Dali once said that Sister Xiu was more capable than her. I never expected that this fourth sister would be so capable too.

After placing the food on the table, Mr. Yu called everyone over to eat. His parents and younger brother, wanting to save Meng for them, didn't eat either. So the whole family sat down at the table and began their dinner.

It was quite late after dinner. Yu's father didn't let Jiang Mingfeng go home alone; it was dark and the roads were difficult to navigate, and driving alone would be dangerous. So he let him sleep in Yu Jun's room.
