Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 2 Yu Meng is in a good mood

After dinner, Dad and my older brother went out. Having overheard that cryptic conversation yesterday, Yu Meng still had no idea what they were going to do.

Needless to say, the younger brother had already disappeared after putting down his rice bowl. Mom told the older sister several times to keep an eye on Yu Meng, and then she left too.

The eldest sister's name was Yu Li, and her nickname was Dali. She asked Yu Meng to sit down in a chair, and then went to the cabinet to get a book.

The two sisters sat down and started reading together. Yu Meng was very curious, so she tilted her head and glanced at it. There were no words on the book, only some messy lines.

The older sister, Dali, carefully traced the lines with one finger, moving it slowly.

Yu Meng was very curious and slowly moved her finger along with it.

Suddenly, Dali sighed; the line had ended. Yu Meng looked over and saw a strange symbol blocking the line.

Dali patiently tapped another line with her finger. Yu Meng followed her finger's movement. Less than three minutes later, they encountered the same symbol again.

And so, the morning passed quietly, and Yu Meng's stomach rumbled. She gently tugged at Da Li's sleeve and then covered her stomach with her hand.

Dali glanced at her. "Little sister, are you hungry? Sit here, I'll go get you something to eat."

Yu Meng nodded; she was very well-behaved. A moment later, Dali brought in a bowl. It was a bowl of plain porridge with two pickled vegetables on top.

Yu Meng ate slowly, and to be honest, it was too bland and not tasty. But she still finished it slowly.

Dali took her to play in the yard for a while, then asked, "Little sister, are you sleepy? Do you want to go to sleep?"

Yu Meng shook her head.

"Let's go read some more books then," Dali said, leading Yu Meng back into the house.

Following the same process as in the morning, Dali felt like her brain was about to explode; she couldn't find a single new line.

She rubbed Yu Meng's face, "Little sister, why is it so hard!" Yu Meng didn't move; although her face was being rubbed, it didn't hurt.

Her innocent expression made Dali laugh and kiss her. "How can you be so cute? If only you could talk!"

Dali put the book away. "Little sister, play by yourself for a while. I need to go cook. Mom and the others should be back soon."

Yu Meng nodded and walked into the yard, where there was a small water tank containing the fish that her brother had snatched yesterday.

Yu Meng pointed at the fish in the water with her finger, and the fish sank slightly. A fish head slowly formed on the surface of the water.

Yu Meng's expression didn't change; she simply lifted the fish-faced creature up with two fingers.

A person and a fish, two faces staring at each other. This was the scene that greeted Mother Yu when she entered.

"Xiao Si." Her mother's voice was soft, as if afraid of startling Yu Meng.

Yu Meng turned her head and saw Yu's mother, then handed the fish-shaped pastry in her hand to her.

"Aren't you afraid of it?" Aunt Yu asked softly.

Yu Meng shook her head and handed the fish-shaped toy to her mother again.

Aunt Yu smiled, "Wait for me to get the rope." She quickly ran into the house, deftly tied the fish face with the rope, and placed it in the box.

He reached out and picked Yu Meng up, saying, "My little Si is so amazing."

During dinner, Yu's mother told everyone about it, and everyone praised Yu Meng for being amazing.

Yu Meng's face turned red; she was embarrassed.

A few days passed like this, and Yu Meng was happy to see that they didn't seem to mind her behavior at all; on the contrary, they seemed to think she was amazing.

Next, Yu Meng became bolder. Every few days, she would come to her parents and siblings with a long face. They would always smile and quickly tie her up with a rope and put her in a box.

One morning, Mom packed all the boxes containing face masks into a large package.

"Go to town in a little while and sell these things, then buy some dried meat for Dali. She needs to take good care of herself," her mother instructed.

"Okay, I'll buy some more minced meat to make porridge for Xiao Si. I heard it's very nutritious," came Mr. Yu's calm voice.

"We owe it all to Xiao Si this time, otherwise we might not have been able to fill the boxes until the end of the year. Be careful when you talk in town, don't let anyone with ulterior motives target you," Mom continued to nag.

"Who doesn't know what happened to the Zhou family? People who go out these days don't talk much," Dad said as he slung his bag over his shoulder. "I've arranged to go with Brother Liu, so we can look out for each other. Don't worry about me."

Yu Meng discovered that no matter how busy her family members were, there was always one person who stayed with her.

Perhaps it's because my older sister is going to take some kind of test, so she's been staying home with her lately.

Therefore, she had many opportunities to read that book.

Her older sister took good care of her.

It's just that the eldest sister seems to be a little dim-witted. That line could have gone smoothly by simply turning a corner, but she insisted on bumping into that symbol.

Yu Meng sighed inwardly. Why couldn't they have thought of taking a different approach?

Just as the eldest sister was about to bump into that symbol again, Yu Meng couldn't help but reach out and grab her finger, turning it slightly to the left.

Then the older sister stared straight at Yu Meng, "Little sister, you, you can understand."

Yu Meng stared at her blankly. What did she understand? Her older sister hadn't said anything; what could she possibly understand?

Perhaps Yu Meng's eyes looked too innocent, so the eldest sister sighed, "Little sister, you're smarter than me. I wish you could speak soon."

Yu Meng pointed to the books on the table, and the eldest sister went over the line she had just followed again. Sure enough, following her younger sister's instructions, she successfully absorbed the line into her mind.

Yu Meng stared, mouth agape, completely mesmerized. What had she just seen? The line had detached from the book and gone straight into her older sister's mind.

The image entered the eldest sister's mind. Dali cupped Xiaoyu Meng's face and planted a big kiss on her forehead. "Thank you so much, Xiao Si'er, for today."

Yu Meng felt relieved. Her older sister had handled such a bizarre situation calmly, and no one called her a monster. So, was she normal too?

I remember holding that fish-faced fish and handing it to my mother. It seemed that there was only joy in her eyes, not disgust.

Fireworks lit up Yu Meng's heart. She loved this home, and she loved this world.

Yu Meng was so happy that she ate half a bowl more rice than usual at dinner. Her mother kept asking her if she was full and offered to rub her tummy.

Yu Meng shook her head; she was fine. She followed behind the young man, watching him fiddle with his precious possession.

"Little sister, tomorrow I'll use this to catch fish for you. The fish will be delicious." The younger brother's name is Yu Hai, and the older brother's name is Yu Jun. They are both very ordinary names.

Yu Hai was still muttering, "The fish were all in the pot today, but they escaped again when I tried to pull them out. Otherwise, we could have had fish soup tonight."
