Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 140 The First Signs of Crisis

Life went on uneventfully until an unexpected person appeared before Yu Meng.

"I am Master Hu, the one Granny Hua mentioned. You should know me; she must have mentioned me." Her tone was very certain.

Yu Meng frowned slightly as she looked at the person sitting there, struggling to breathe. "Are you being punished by heaven?"

Hu the charlatan glared at Yu Meng, "Don't you understand the importance of respecting elders?"

Yu Meng shook her head seriously, "I'm the youngest in the family, and they all give in to me."

"You little brat, do you have to hold a grudge like that? I've been sitting here for a while, can't you even get me a glass of water?"

"Your arrival won't bring anything good, so why should I entertain you?"

Hu the charlatan choked for a moment, "I'm not doing this for myself either, can't you be a little more understanding?" Yu Meng didn't speak, just stared straight at him.

Xiao Niannian ran over, poured a glass of water, and handed it to Hu the fortune teller. "Do you want a steamed bun?"

"Yes, two, please." Hu the charlatan took the water glass, took a big gulp, and then sat up straight.

"I'm very busy. I won't contact you unless it's something extremely important."

Yu Meng rolled her eyes. "What's the use of coming to me with something so important? I can hold up the sky."

"You little girl, don't be so hostile towards me. Our first meeting was just to let Granny Hua see your abilities, not to harm you. Besides, knowing the descendant of such an important person might be of great help to you in the future."

Xiao Niannian took out the steamed bun and handed it to Hu the fortune teller, then sat down on the stone bench next to him just like Hu the fortune teller. She had figured it out these past few days; the people who came to see Fourth Sister were not simple.

Hu the charlatan didn't say anything. He took the steamed bun and ate it with relish, along with the glass of water.

Yu Meng didn't say anything, she just quietly watched him eat the steamed bun.

"I'm finally alive." Hu the fortune teller finished the last bite of his steamed bun, then handed the water glass to Nian Nian again. "Give me another glass of water."

"Yu Meng, you must remember what I'm about to say. If something happens that you can't handle, remember that the most dangerous place is also the safest place."

Yu Meng just stared at him without saying a word.

"It's not that I don't want to tell you the specifics, but look at me now. If I really told you, maybe a bolt of lightning would strike me dead." The charlatan curled up into a ball again. "I've been traveling for days to get here. I'm very tired and need to sleep for a while."

When Xiao Niannian came out with her water cup, Hu Shengun's snoring was already starting.

Niannian looked at Yu Meng and gestured with her eyes, asking what was going on.

"He came here to warn us," Yu Meng said softly, lowering her head. "He's tired; he needs to sleep for a while."

"But why won't you let him sleep inside?"

"He can't go inside to sleep because this is his last sleep, and perhaps the longest." Yu Meng felt a lump in her throat. Why did they all have to act like this in front of her?

Yu Meng looked at the open communication bell in her hand and sent a message to Secretary Wu: "Do you know that charlatan?"

Secretary Wu answered quickly. "I know him."

He's with me, but he's exhausted and nearing the end of his life. I don't know what to do with him.

Secretary Wu was silent for a moment. "You don't need to worry about it, I'll handle it."

"Okay." Yu Meng turned off the communication bell.

"Niannian, go back to town and tell my mom I'm staying at the old house a few more days." Yu Meng looked at Niannian. "Spend some time with Sister Xiu these next few days. We might have to leave soon."

Niannian nodded, "Then be careful here by yourself. I'll be back in three days."

Yu Meng went inside and took a sheet, which she then covered Hu the charlatan with. She went into the courtyard and sat down on a stone bench.

In the middle of the night, Yu Meng heard a sound, somewhat like an airplane. Half an hour later, Yu Meng saw a squad of neatly dressed soldiers arrive at her old house and salute her in unison, but no one made a sound.

Secretary Wu hurried into the room. "Yu Meng, I'm taking her with me. The base will be disbanded at the end of this month. The structure has undergone major changes, and nobody knows what will happen. Take care of yourself. Oh, by the way, this is the last group of aliens in the experimental garden. I brought them out. Be careful, and if you can't handle it, go far away." With that, he stuffed a box into Yu Meng's hand, turned around, and walked out.

Yu Meng wanted to ask what had happened, but Secretary Wu quickly left with the group of people who had come, as if they were in a hurry. He just waved to Yu Meng, then jumped into the car and drove away.

Yu Meng seemed to have no time to react to all of this, which happened so quickly. If the person outside the door hadn't disappeared, it would have felt like only a blink of an eye.

Looking at the box in her hand, Yu Meng sighed softly and placed it in her backpack. This backpack, of course, was woven from her own yarn; each of the four sisters had one of these backpacks to carry their important belongings.

Three days later, Niannian arrived, along with Yu's father and mother.

Aunt Yu held Yu Meng's hand, "Niannian didn't explain clearly at home. Where are you going? Has someone come looking for you again? Is it dangerous?"

Yu Meng, holding her mother's hand with one hand and her father's hand with the other, went into the inner room. She rummaged around in a corner for a while and took out two boxes. "These are beads I made. They are all top-quality and very valuable. Find a place by the river to hide them for emergencies. Don't keep them at home."

Yu's father looked at Yu Meng and said, "What exactly happened? Can't you tell me a little bit? I'm getting really uneasy."

Yu Meng shook her head. "It's best that you don't know. From today onwards, Niannian and I will not go back to town. If, Dad, Mom, someone wants to buy that little house, you should sell it. Don't get into any conflicts with them. Then come back here to retire."

Tears streamed down Yu Ma's face. "What could possibly require you to leave home? Where can you go?"

Yu Meng hugged her mother, "Our phone numbers are too high, which has attracted the attention of some people. If they come looking for us, you don't need to say anything, just cry. But this is just acting, so please don't cry and ruin your eyes. If you can't recognize us when we come back, you'll be in big trouble."

Yu Meng then turned to look at her father. "Dad, just tell me, who's the most capable in our family?"

Father Yu's eyes also reddened. "Of course, my little fourth son is the best."

Yu Meng pulled Niannian to stand in front of them. "I'm the best, and Niannian is such a clever little devil. We won't be at a disadvantage, so you can just stay home and wait for us to come back."

"Where are you going now?" Aunt Yu asked hurriedly.

"Let's go to the city and find Li Yiqing to ask about the situation first, then I'll decide." Yu Meng turned around and hugged her parents. Niannian followed suit and hugged her mother and father as well.

Then the two of them left without looking back. They didn't take a car; they went straight into the mountains.

Yu Ma ran out crying, but the two men were nowhere to be seen. She turned back, hugged Yu Ba tightly, and began to sob softly. Yu Ba sighed heavily, "Xiao Si said you can only cry when you're acting. If you ruin your eyes, Xiao Si will definitely blame you when he comes back."

"I'm just so sad. They're gone just like that, and I can't even cry!" Mrs. Yu said, hitting Mr. Yu.
