Chapter 212 Why bother distinguishing?

The return to Earth went smoothly, the only thing that wasn't so smooth was Sif's curious nature.

When she descended to Earth, her attention was entirely focused on Thor, and she paid no attention to the situation on Earth.

Now that she has decided to stay on Earth for Peter, everything seems new and exciting to her.

Peter was so bothered by Peter's persistent attention that the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were all staring at him with envy.

The bureau chief is indeed the bureau chief; he managed to snag a goddess while dealing with some trivial matter.

He is truly a role model for us all.

Finally, Peter was driven to desperation by Sif's persistent pestering, so he came up with a solution that was hardly a solution at all.

He assigned Sif a task: to comfort Jane Foster, who was feeling incredibly down because Thor hadn't come to Earth with her.

Sif's heart is now entirely with Peter; she doesn't care about Saul at all.

Naturally, they wouldn't have any complaints about Jane Foster, their "love rival" in the original novel.

So, for the sake of her good brother's future happiness, this silly girl patted her chest and took on this "difficult" task without hesitation, and instead went to pester Jane Foster.

Peter, who had finally breathed a sigh of relief and had just had a chance to take a shower and relax, heard another knock on the door.

Peter rolled his eyes, then noticed Natasha standing outside the door, and casually remarked:

"The door wasn't locked."

Natasha then pushed open the door and entered.

She changed out of her usual black bodysuit and into a loose-fitting loungewear set.

In addition, she had obviously just taken a shower, her wet red curly hair casually draped over her shoulders, making her look lazy and alluring.

"Did you need something?" Peter had already guessed what Natasha was going to say, but he still took the initiative to start the conversation.

Natasha closed the door behind her, sat down in the chair opposite Peter, and spoke after a moment of silence:

"I saw that girl named Sif holding your hand."

So that's what they came for.

"She said she admired my bravery. After living for thousands of years, she still can't distinguish between admiration and love."

Peter said it somewhat casually.

But Natasha's emotions suddenly became somewhat agitated:

"Who can tell the difference?"

"I used to think I only admired you, until you fell from the sky like a lump of charcoal."

At this point, her voice became very soft again, as if she were talking to herself:

"She's very brave." Natasha lowered her head, her gaze falling on the light reflected in her glass. "Much braver than me."

Peter looked at her but didn't speak immediately; he knew that all he needed to do at that moment was listen.

"You know, from the day I returned to Russia at the age of 11 and was sent back to the Red House again, I told myself—Natasha Romanov doesn't need anyone."

Her voice was steady, as if she were narrating someone else's story.

"I am a spy, an assassin, a tool. Tools are not worthy of having feelings."

"The Red Room taught us that emotions are a weakness, and spies die once their weaknesses are exposed."

"But I didn't want to just be a tool, forming a fake family. Those three years in Ohio were the happiest time of my life."

"In order to get back that feeling, I escaped the Red Room and joined S.H.I.E.L.D. at Nick's invitation, but I always knew I wouldn't get anything here until I was assigned to contact you."

She looked up and met Peter's eyes.

A fiery flame danced in those green eyes.

"It was you who turned me from a monster back into a human."

"I'm not Sif. I can't do what she did and announce to everyone that you're my prey without any regard for the consequences."

"I know I'm no match for Gwen or Felicia. I have a stain on me that I can't wash away."

"I tried to suppress myself and try to maintain the status quo."

"But I couldn't control myself, like a moth drawn to a flame."

"Perhaps the ending is destined to be utter destruction, but at least the process won't leave me feeling alone."

Her last words were spoken so softly that they could be easily drowned out by the noise of passing cars outside.

But Peter still heard it.

He then sighed almost imperceptibly, followed by a self-deprecating smile.

He had previously laughed at Sif for not being able to distinguish between appreciation and liking.

But now, isn't he the same?

Sympathy, affection, desire... Did he really distinguish them?

This thought unconsciously caused a sense of confusion to arise in Peter's mind.

But soon, this confusion was drowned out by another, more resolute voice.

Why bother distinguishing between them so clearly?

Anyway, there aren't any rules in this world that can bind you!

With that thought in mind, Peter suddenly felt his mind clear.

He then stood up, took Natasha's hand, and pulled her into his arms.

"Actually, I saw everything after you left my office that day."

Upon hearing this, Natasha's body trembled slightly.

She looked up at Peter with a gaze that was both resentful and apprehensive—

She was afraid to hear any cruel words.

"At the time, I wasn't sure whether my feelings for you were sympathy or affection."

"But today, Sif really taught me a lesson."

"Why bother distinguishing between them? Anyway, I've always had this problem—once I get something, I won't let a second person touch it."

Upon hearing this, Natasha was suddenly stunned.

She didn't quite understand the meaning of those words at first, but then, a strong sense of joy exploded in her heart.

Just as she was feeling dizzy with joy, Peter gently lowered his head and kissed her.

The night is deep in New Mexico.

The city's neon lights still flicker.

But in this temporary shelter, the world fell silent.

Tonight, the world needs no saving.

Tonight, it belongs to just the two of us.

……

As dawn approached, Natasha rested her head on Peter's chest, revealing a rare expression of languid relaxation.

Peter put his arm around her, but he looked somewhat absent-minded.

"What are you thinking about?" Natasha couldn't help but ask.

"I'm thinking about what gift I should give you."

"...What?"

Peter didn't explain much, because he had already made his decision.

[Zoan Type, Mythical Beast, Great Mouth God Form]

Price: 5000 Sacrifice Points

"Take it down!"

As Peter silently recited the mantra, a strange, ice-blue fruit appeared in his hand the next second.

Peter hadn't intended to buy this thing.

But Natasha is now his woman, so how could he let her just be an ordinary superhero?

Natasha stared blankly at the fruit that had appeared out of nowhere, somewhat bewildered.

"What kind of fruit is this? I've never seen it before!"

"A Devil Fruit." Peter shoved the fruit into her hand. "Eating this will give you a special ability, but the taste might not be very good."

Black Widow looked at Peter with some skepticism, then tentatively took the fruit and took a bite.

And then...

Ugh!
