On the ninth day of the eleventh lunar month, Lü Bu held the Jingxi Blood Sacrifice in Jinman City, using the blood of the Xiongnu to commemorate Huo Gu and the heroic Han soldiers who guarded the border.

Before the altar, apart from the guard troops left to guard the royal court of the Cheshi Kingdom, the remaining 5,000 elite cavalry of the Han army stood in formation.

More than two thousand people, including representatives of the Cheshi kingdoms, representatives of Han Chinese officials and their families from the Western Regions, surviving laborers from Jinmancheng, and some Cheshi survivors who came from Wutu Valley, gathered around the altar.

The atmosphere was solemn and respectful.

Lu Bu, dressed in black royal robes and with a long sword at his waist, slowly ascended the altar. Generals such as Ma Chao, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Dian Wei, and Xu Chu stood below the altar.

As the master of ceremonies, Su Yan announced loudly: "The auspicious hour has arrived, the Jingxi Blood Sacrifice begins—"

The first step is to inform Heaven.

Lü Bu burned incense and prayed, proclaiming loudly: "Heaven above, Earth below. The Left Dulu King of the Northern Xiongnu, Xubu Danghe, led his troops south, slaughtering my Han city, killing my garrison soldiers, and destroying my vassal states. I, Lü Bu, King of Jin of the Great Han, have been ordered by the Emperor to punish this disobedient. Fortunately, thanks to the valiant efforts of my soldiers and the overwhelming might of Heaven, we have captured the ringleader and his people. I hereby offer this prayer to Heaven to comfort his spirit!"

The second item is praising achievements.

Su Yan unfurled the silk scroll and loudly recited the achievements of Huo Gu and the eighty-seven Han soldiers:

"Huo Gu was a native of Hedong in Sili, a descendant of a collateral branch of General Huo Qubing, the Marquis of Champion. Since he had been stationed at Wubuhou City, he had served the Han people and protected the Han territory for twenty-three years without fail. When Jinman City fell, he fought bravely and refused to surrender, preferring death to submission. He died a heroic death for his country and was posthumously granted the titles of County Marquis and General Jingxi to honor his spirit."

"Wang Meng, a native of Longxi in Liangzhou, served as a border guard for fifteen years... posthumously granted the title of Marquis within the Passes..."

"Zhao Wu, a native of Fufeng in Sili, served as a border guard for twelve years..."

One name after another was read out, and behind each name was a veteran who had guarded the border for many years, a heroic soul who died on the battlefield.

Many people in the audience were already in tears.

Wei Bing and the officials and their families from the Western Regions cried the most.

Like these soldiers, they were people forgotten by the court in the Western Regions. Now, seeing their comrades posthumously honored and praised, they felt both gratified and sorrowful.

The kings and people of Cheshi were also deeply shocked.

They did not expect that the Han court would attach such importance to these lowly soldiers, not only posthumously granting them the title of marquis but also holding a grand sacrificial ceremony.

The third item is burial.

Huo Gu's coffin was lifted by eight Han soldiers and slowly lowered into the tomb. Then came the coffins of eighty-seven other garrison soldiers, which were buried one by one.

The coffins of the laborers were also buried at the same time.

Lü Bu personally added the first handful of soil to Huo Gu's tomb.

"General Huo, rest in peace. Your blood will not have been shed in vain; the Han territory will be forever secure."

The fourth item is blood sacrifice.

This is the most crucial part of the entire festival.

Su Yan shouted loudly: "The guilty prisoners must be heeded—"

Xubudanghe was bound hand and foot and escorted to the altar by four Han soldiers. His mouth was stuffed with cloth, and he could only make muffled sounds.

Lü Bu walked up to him and said coldly, "Xubu Danghe, you led your troops south to invade, massacred my Han city, killed my garrison soldiers, and annihilated the rear of Cheshi. Your crimes are heinous. Today, before General Huo Gu's tomb, I will offer your blood as a sacrifice to General Huo's heroic spirit!"

Xubudang struggled desperately, but was held down firmly by the soldiers.

Lu Bu drew his sword, and the blade flashed.

puff--

The head fell to the ground, and blood splattered onto the altar.

There was complete silence below the altar, with only the sound of the wind howling.

Immediately afterwards, more than a dozen Xiongnu commanders of thousands and hundreds were brought up and beheaded one by one in front of Huo Gu's tomb.

Blood stained the altar and flowed down the steps.

The fifth item: Massacre.

On either side of the altar, more than two thousand Xiongnu prisoners were brought up in batches. They were forced to kneel on the ground, facing the tombs of the garrison soldiers.

The Han army's axemen stood in a row, holding ring-pommel swords.

Standing on the altar, Lü Bu proclaimed, "These Xiongnu people have the blood of my Han people on their hands. Today, let us use their blood to commemorate all the heroic Han soldiers who died defending the border!"

"Execution—"

At the command, blades flashed.

Puff puff……

The head rolled off, and blood splattered everywhere.

One hundred people in the first batch, one hundred people in the second batch... one batch after another.

Some of the Xiongnu were so frightened that they collapsed, some cursed loudly, and some cried and begged for mercy, but all to no avail.

The executioners were expressionless, their hands moving swiftly and mercilessly.

This is revenge, and also a deterrent.

The kings and people of Cheshi were terrified.

They had never seen such a large-scale massacre; more than two thousand Hun soldiers and strong men were beheaded row by row.

Blood pooled into streams, staining the entire land red.

The air was thick with the stench of blood.

Some couldn't bear it and turned away to vomit. Some were so frightened that their faces turned pale and their legs went weak. But some, especially the remnants of the Cheshi tribe, had a look of pleasure in their eyes—these Xiongnu had killed their relatives, and now they were finally getting their comeuppance!

The massacre lasted for two hours.

When the last Xiongnu prisoner fell, the area around the altar was littered with corpses and rivers of blood.

Only Tuoba Wuer, having rendered meritorious service by providing intelligence on the four kingdoms of Yanqi, temporarily escaped death, but he was still trembling with fear. Moreover, he was unaware that he had only outlived these Xiongnu people by a few days. Lü Bu only intended to use him to launch a campaign against the four kingdoms of Yanqi later, not to completely let Tuoba Wuer go.

The sixth item is building a mound of skulls.

Han soldiers and the remaining people of Cheshi began to move the corpses.

They piled up the headless corpses of the Huns, layer upon layer. On top of them was the head of Subudanghe.

In the end, a mound of over two thousand Hun corpses stood outside Jinmancheng.

Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, this tower of flesh and blood appeared particularly grotesque and terrifying.

Standing before the mound of skulls, Lü Bu addressed the crowd: "This mound of skulls is named Jingxi Tower. Let all the Western Regions and all the steppe tribes see that this is the fate of those who defy the might of our mighty Han! The blood of General Huo Gu and the soldiers guarding the border will not have been shed in vain! From this day forward, wherever the Han banners fly, it is Han land; wherever the Han army marches, all nations will submit!"

"The King of Jin is mighty! The Han army is mighty!" the Han soldiers shouted in unison.

The kings of Cheshi and the people also knelt down, shouting, "Long live the King of Jin! Long live the Han Dynasty!"

The festival has ended.

But the shock brought about by this blood sacrifice has only just begun.

The three kings, Hulandi, Himita, and Dulujian, gathered together, their expressions complex.

"More than two thousand people... all of them were killed..." Himita's voice trembled.

Du Lüjian sighed, "The Prince of Jin is establishing his authority. He wants all the countries in the Western Regions to know that although the Han court has experienced internal strife, its power remains. Anyone who dares to betray us will be the next Xiongnu."

Hu Landi gave a wry smile: "Well, that's it. We'd better put away all our little schemes. If the Prince of Jin says he wants to take away our military power, we'll obediently hand it over. Otherwise, this mound of skulls might turn into our heads one day."

The three of them looked at Doumo in the distance.

Doumo was directing the remaining people of Cheshi to help clean up the scene. There was no fear on his face, but rather an expression of relief.

"That kid chose the right path," Hu Landi murmured. "He voluntarily submitted to the Han court. Although he lost his throne, at least he can live and has a future. We who are still holding onto our thrones, who knows what will become of us..."

Himita and Toriken exchanged a glance, both seeing worry in each other's eyes.

But amidst the worry, there was also a sliver of relief—at least the Han court had arrived, the Xiongnu had been defeated, and the conspiracy of the four kingdoms of Yanqi had been exposed. With the King of Jin around, the Cheshi people should no longer face annihilation.

News of the Jingxi blood sacrifice in Jinmancheng quickly spread throughout the Western Regions via caravans and postal courier services.

Upon hearing the news, the kings of the four kingdoms of Yanqi were so frightened that they summoned their ministers overnight to discuss countermeasures.
