Chapter 543 Flames Soar into the Sky, Iron Swords Clear the Way
"If these hundreds of pounds of gunpowder were actually transported to Black Wind Valley, Guo Jing, that stubborn donkey, would be blown to pieces. I'll wipe him out right here today."
Yang Guo squatted on the ground, holding a broken twig in his hand, and drew circles on the mud.
"Don't do anything reckless." Cheng Ying squatted down beside her, gripping the fabric on her knees with both hands. "With so much gunpowder, once it's lit, not a single blade of grass will be left within a hundred paces. We're so close; if a spark ignites, all three of us will be buried alive."
Yang Guo touched his chin.
Cheng Ying's words make sense.
He's not a god; he doesn't have wings to fly away.
"We need to find a way to buy time. Wushuang, go to the stove and sneakily find the thickest hemp rope, and also get half a bowl of mutton fat. Be quick, and don't let anyone see you."
"Why should I go? Why don't you let my cousin go?" Lu Wushuang pouted.
Yang Guo reached out and pinched her thigh.
"Your cousin's legs are as weak as noodles; she struggles to walk even a few steps. You have long legs, are strong, and can run fast. Hurry up and go, stop talking nonsense."
"You're so biased towards her!" Lu Wushuang stood up, her face flushed, and crouched down to reach the stove.
Cheng Ying listened from the side, her face burning, and she complained in a low voice.
"Stop making fun of me. What time is it, and you're still spouting nonsense?"
"I'm telling the truth. The mark in your dantian hasn't settled down yet. If I hadn't used my true qi to suppress it, you wouldn't even be able to squat properly right now." Yang Guo leaned over and blew a breath of hot air into Cheng Ying's ear.
Cheng Ying was so frightened that she backed away and didn't dare to respond at all.
After a while, Lu Wushuang ran back.
He had a thick hemp rope covered in black ash tucked into his pocket, and a broken wooden bowl in his hand, filled with solidified white mutton fat.
"My lord, it's here. Those Mongol soldiers are all drinking, and no one's keeping an eye on them."
Yang Guo took the hemp rope, threw it into the wooden bowl, and smeared all the mutton fat on the rope.
"Steward Cheng, you do the math for me. How much effort would it take to burn a foot of this hemp rope stained with mutton fat?"
"Sheep fat burns slowly. A foot long can only burn for half an incense stick at most. In the time it takes for half an incense stick to burn, even if we run as fast as we can, we can only run for two miles at most. The Mongols have horses, so it will be easy for them to catch up with us." Cheng Ying stared at the rope for a while.
Yang Guo coiled the mutton fat rope into a circle and stuffed it into his pocket.
"Two miles is enough. Just don't get blown to bits. As for those on horseback, I'm just looking for a place to draw blood with this big iron sword. I'll go light a fire in a bit. Once it's lit, you two head over to that grove. I'll be there shortly."
Just as the three of them finished their discussion, a series of curses and shouts came from afar.
The Mongol centurion, wearing animal skin armor, strode towards them with four soldiers carrying spears.
The centurion, his face reeking of alcohol, was carrying a leather wine flask and was pointing at Yang Guo and the other two, shouting loudly.
Yang Guo couldn't understand, so he could only stand there and pretend to be stupid.
Cheng Ying quickly went to greet her, bowed her head, and replied in Mongolian.
The two exchanged a few words, but the centurion did not leave. Instead, he carried the wine bag and circled around them.
He walked up to Lu Wushuang and stopped.
Lu Wushuang is too outstanding in appearance.
Even with mud smeared on her face and tattered leather armor, her graceful figure couldn't be hidden.
She went to steal mutton fat from the stove, and in her haste, one of the buttons on her leather armor popped open, revealing a small patch of tender white flesh underneath.
The centurion stared intently at the piece of white meat, reached out to grab Lu Wushuang's collar, and uttered two extremely vulgar Mongolian words.
Yang Guo frowned.
"Butler Cheng, what kind of excrement did that fat pig just spew?"
Cheng Ying's face flushed red as she gritted her teeth and translated.
He said this young woman has delicate skin and tender flesh, and he'd bring her back to the camp to amuse the brothers.
"Go to hell!"
Before Yang Guo could speak, Lu Wushuang flipped his right hand, and the willow-leaf scimitar slid directly out of his sleeve.
A flash of light.
The centurion's outstretched right hand was severed at the wrist, and blood splattered all over Lu Wushuang's face.
Baihu stood there stunned for a long time before clutching his severed hand and screaming like a pig being slaughtered.
"How dare you, you fat pig, eat my tofu?" Lu Wushuang retorted loudly, brandishing her bloodstained knife.
Yang Guo cursed inwardly and kicked the centurion in the stomach, sending the fat man flying two zhang away, smashing over a nearby brazier.
"Wushuang! Can't you just hold your temper in for a little while?!"
"He touched me! I'd be letting him off easy by cutting off his hand!"
The four Mongol soldiers next to him reacted and thrust their spears at him.
Yang Guo didn't even draw his greatsword. He threw out both fists, using 30% of his innate internal energy, and smashed the sternums of two soldiers.
The remaining two soldiers were terrified and turned to run away, blowing loudly the horn hanging around their necks as they ran.
The entire camp was thrown into chaos.
Countless torches lit up, and hundreds of Mongol soldiers, carrying swords and spears, charged towards them.
"There's no escape! Let's just go for it!"
Yang Guo ripped the mutton fat rope from his arms and turned to yell at Cheng Ying.
"Butler Cheng! Take Wushuang and run into the woods behind us! Don't look back!"
Cheng Ying grabbed Lu Wushuang and ran.
Yang Guo strode up to the gunpowder cart.
Two guards watching the car drew their knives and slashed at it.
Yang Guo dodged the blade to the side, grabbed the two men by the neck with his two large hands, and slammed them together.
Their heads collided and turned into a mushy watermelon.
Yang Guo lifted the oilcloth, stuffed one end of the mutton fat and hemp rope into a gunpowder jar, and took out a tinderbox to light the other end.
The flames crawled along the mutton fat rope.
Yang Guo shouldered the heavy Xuan Tie sword on his back, took off running in the direction the two women had run.
A hail of arrows rained down from the Mongol soldiers.
Yang Guo swung his heavy sword in a wide arc to block behind him, and the arrows struck the iron sword with a clanging sound.
"Husband! There are too many arrows!" Lu Wushuang ran ahead, panting heavily.
"Shut up! Don't look back! Run forward!" Yang Guo roared.
He ran extremely fast and caught up with Cheng Ying in just a few steps.
Cheng Ying was panting heavily from running, and her legs were so weak that she almost knelt on the ground.
The intense running caused the mark inside her body to throb, and her dantian began to ache again.
"I can't run anymore, you guys go." Cheng Ying tripped and fell into the mud.
"Don't give me that 'life or death' act!"
Yang Guo pulled her out of the mud, grabbed Cheng Ying's waist with one hand, and with the other hand holding his greatsword, led Lu Wushuang into the dense forest.
Behind them, a deafening explosion came from the gunpowder truck.
A huge red light illuminated half the sky.
Then came the second and third sounds.
More than a dozen gunpowder canisters exploded in succession.
A massive heatwave, mixed with bits of wood and metal, swept across the ground.
Yang Guo pulled the two women down into a large pit and pressed his heavy sword firmly on their heads.
Mud and branches pelted their backs.
Once the commotion subsided, Yang Guo peeked out and looked back.
A large crater was blown out in the very center of the Mongol camp.
The tents were all on fire, and there were severed limbs and charred corpses everywhere.
The Mongol soldiers who weren't killed by the bomb ran around like headless flies.
"Husband, we did it!" Lu Wushuang lay in the pit, his face covered in mud, grinning and showing his white teeth.
"What a load of crap! These hundreds of pounds of gunpowder almost cooked my ass!" Yang Guo patted the sparks off his trousers.
Cheng Ying coughed twice and pointed outside the woods.
"Don't be too happy yet. There are still uninjured cavalrymen outside the camp, and they've mounted their horses and are chasing after us."
Yang Guo squinted and looked over.
Fifty or sixty cavalrymen, carrying torches, were flanking the dense forest.
The leader was a commander in iron armor, brandishing a scimitar and shouting loudly.
"I can't understand what these bastards are yelling. Butler Cheng, translate for them."
Cheng Ying swallowed.
"They said that the arsonists were Han Chinese spies, and that the women would be captured alive while the men would be skinned alive."
Yang Guo laughed.
"Want to capture you two alive? You'll have to ask this big iron sword in my hand if it agrees."
Yang Guo stood up, carried Cheng Ying on his back, and tied her tightly with strips of cloth torn from his outer garment.
"Wushuang, stick close to me. We'll fight our way back to Xiangyang and feast on the rich!"
