Chapter 362 Straight to the Stronghold
Three curved swords were drawn from their sheaths.
The leader squeezed his horse's flanks, and the warhorse neighed as it charged toward Yang Guo.
Two Mongolian warriors followed closely behind, the three of them forming a triangular formation, their curved blades slashing towards Yang Guo's head, waist, and legs.
They worked together very well. This wasn't an ordinary spy; it was a scout who had received proper military training.
Yang Guo did not draw his sword.
His footwork faltered, his body twisted to the left, and he slid across the ground. His movements were swift and unpredictable, causing all three curved blades to miss their mark.
The leader's sword strike missed its mark, and his horse, moving too fast to stop, swept past Yang Guo. Yang Guo used the momentum to spring up, and with his right index finger, he unleashed his second One-Finger Divine Skill.
This finger strike wasn't executed with full force; it only used 30% of the user's internal energy.
The golden light struck the stirrups of the second horse. The iron stirrups shattered instantly, sending fragments flying. The rider lost his footing and swayed to one side.
Yang Guo stepped forward and slapped the Mongolian warrior on the back with his left palm, sending him flying off his horse.
The samurai tumbled twice in the air before crashing heavily into the muddy ground by the roadside, spitting out a mouthful of blood. He struggled for a moment but couldn't get up.
Seeing that things were not going well, the third warrior turned his horse around and ran away.
"Peerless," Yang Guo called out.
Lu Wushuang was already prepared. She darted out of the bushes, her movements as nimble as a snake or a fox, her agility was unbelievable.
Taking three steps, he leaped onto a thick branch of a locust tree by the roadside, using the momentum to launch himself forward and intercept the fleeing samurai from the side.
The willow-leaf scimitar was drawn from its sheath.
Lu Wushuang's swordsmanship was not particularly exquisite, but it was fast and ruthless.
A slash struck the horse's rump, and the warhorse, in pain, lost control, rearing up on its hind legs. The rider, not keeping his balance, was thrown off.
Lu Wushuang followed, stepped on the warrior's wrist, and kicked the curved sword away.
"Behave yourself." Lu Wushuang pressed the tip of his knife against the other's neck.
The leader of the men turned his horse around and launched a surprise attack. His curved blade flashed, aiming straight for Yang Guo's head.
Yang Guo didn't even turn his head, and flicked his right index finger backward.
Fifth-grade One-Finger Divine Skill.
A pale golden aura shot out, striking the blade of the curved sword squarely.
"Click."
The curved blade broke in the middle, and the broken surface was charred black.
Half of the blade flew out and embedded itself in the trunk of a tree by the roadside.
The leader's arm went numb from the recoil, and half of his body was trembling.
He stared at the broken sword in his hand, now only the hilt remaining, his face ashen.
Yang Guo turned around and walked up to him. He grabbed the man's collar, pulled him off the horse, and threw him to the ground.
"I'll ask you one more time. Who sent you?"
The man gritted his teeth and remained silent.
Yang Guo crouched down and placed his right index finger on the other person's kneecap. A faint golden light emanated from his fingertip.
"You should have seen it. With one finger, your leg is ruined. No matter how wise the leader is, he won't take a cripple as a subordinate."
Large beads of sweat appeared on the man's forehead.
"Will you talk or not?" Yang Guo added a bit of force, his inner energy buzzing at his fingertips.
"Chang'an. Chang'an Qingfeng Inn." The man finally spoke.
"We are under the command of Centurion Tachar, who has forty secret agents under his command, distributed along the official roads around Zhongnan Mountain."
"Tachar? What's his background?"
"The head of the scout battalion under Ögedei Khan. He was specifically responsible for monitoring the movements of martial arts practitioners from all over Guanzhong."
Yang Guo asked a few more questions. The man gave a rather fragmented account.
The Mongol network of secret agents in Guanzhong was much larger than Yang Guo had anticipated.
Not only in Huxian and Zhouzhi, but also in Chang'an, Fengxiang, and Xingyuan, people were present in every city.
Lu Wushuang tied up the other two warriors, dragged them over, and threw them together.
"Master, what should we do with these three?"
Yang Guo stood up and patted the dirt off his hands.
"No rush." Yang Guo looked at Lu Wushuang. "Did you just hear that? At the Qingfeng Inn in Chang'an, Centurion Tachar, forty hidden agents."
Lu Wushuang nodded and silently memorized this information.
"Do you have any way to locate the other hidden agents?"
Lu Wushuang thought for a moment. "These three people should have contact codes and rendezvous methods on them. Search them."
Yang Guo pointed to the leading man. "Search him."
Lu Wushuang rummaged through the man's clothes and pulled out a small copper plaque and a folded piece of parchment from the lining.
The bronze plaque has a Mongolian character engraved on the front and a string of numbers on the back.
The parchment was unfolded, revealing a simple map marked with seven or eight red dots and written in Mongolian script beside it.
Yang Guo took the parchment and glanced at it. He didn't recognize Mongolian script, but he recognized the terrain on the map.
These red dots are distributed along the official road south of Zhongnan Mountain, marking the locations of various hidden stakes.
"Good stuff." Yang Guo put the parchment into his pocket.
He looked at the bronze plaque again, examining it carefully for a while.
"This bronze token is their identification. With this, they can enter any of the hidden outposts." Yang Guo tossed the token to Lu Wushuang. "Keep it safe."
Lu Wushuang caught the bronze medal and stuffed it into the hidden pocket at her waist.
"What about these three people?" Lu Wushuang asked again.
Yang Guo glanced at the three men. The leader had already given his intelligence, while the other two Mongol warriors were either coughing up blood or being pinned to the ground by Lu Wushuang.
"Tie them to a tree. We'll deal with them after we take down Qingfeng Inn's stronghold."
Lu Wushuang quickly dragged the three men into the roadside bushes, tied them to the roots of an inconspicuous locust tree with a rope, and stuffed strips of cloth into their mouths.
Yang Guo squatted down and placed two fingers below the collarbones of the leading man and another warrior, respectively.
With the acupoints sealed, the three were unable to move or make a sound.
Yang Guo mounted his horse and waved to Lu Wushuang. "Let's go to Chang'an."
Lu Wushuang mounted her horse and gave chase.
"Master, are we just the two of us going to take down the stronghold? There are forty people there." Lu Wushuang hesitated as he rode his horse.
"Forty hidden agents are scattered in various places. How many people can be in the stronghold?" Yang Guo asked without turning his head.
"Besides, I am now at the fifth level of the One Finger Divine Skill. Within three zhang, anyone who comes can be dealt with with a single finger."
Lu Wushuang watched Yang Guo's retreating figure and muttered, "You're just bragging."
"Blow? You saw that curved sword break with your own eyes." Yang Guo turned around and winked at her. "Scared? If you're scared, go back to guard the mountain. I'll go alone."
"Who's afraid!" Lu Wushuang spurred his horse and caught up with Yang Guo.
"I'm just reminding you to be careful. What if there's a master inside?"
"It would be even better if there were experts." Yang Guo patted the long sword at his waist. "After three years of hiding, my hands are itching for a fight."
Two white horses rode side by side, galloping along the official road towards Chang'an.
