Chapter 259 The Great Transfer of Covert Equipment
The night was thick and inky, completely engulfing the outskirts of Beijing. The long-abandoned Hongxing Farm lay silent in the darkness, like a lurking beast. The crumbling walls cast distorted shadows in the pale moonlight, and wild grasses grew rampant, almost burying the path leading into the depths. The night wind howled mournfully through the empty window openings and collapsed rooftops, adding to the desolation and eeriness.
Wang Huanbo stood alone in the largest warehouse deep within the farm. Moonlight streamed in through a huge hole in the roof, forming a hazy beam that barely illuminated the dusty, cobweb-covered floor. A deathly silence surrounded him, broken only by the rustling of the wind through the rubble and his own steady breathing. The air was thick with the smell of mildew and dust.
He tilted his head slightly, his gaze piercing through the hole in the roof, looking at the lonely, cold moon on the horizon. Moonlight fell on his calm, expressionless face, revealing no emotion. He stretched out his hand, and a golden light emanated from his palm, a light that seemed to contain some dormant power.
There was no earth-shattering roar, no dazzling light. The moonlit floor in the center of the warehouse rippled like water, and then, one after another, massive, brand-new mechanical parts, gleaming with a cold metallic sheen, appeared out of thin air! Huge stamping press bases, intricately designed conveyor belt supports, CNC control panels flashing indicator lights… as if by magic, a complete production line for Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Honda automotive parts—representing the pinnacle of modern manufacturing—was silently and without warning retrieved from his personal storage space, filling most of the warehouse!
Moonlight bathed the brand-new equipment, reflecting a cold, hard luster that starkly contrasted with the surrounding dilapidated and decaying environment. Wang Huanbo stood silently at the boundary between light and shadow, gazing at this steel behemoth that could change the fate of the Red Star Factory. His face remained expressionless, though a barely perceptible hint of satisfaction flickered deep in his eyes. The entire process was incredibly fast, as if the miraculous scene had never occurred.
Meanwhile, a few kilometers away from Hongxing Farm, more than a dozen Hongxing Jiefang trucks, manufactured by Hongxing Automobile Manufacturing Plant, were speeding along a dirt road, bumping along. Their headlights pierced the thick darkness, and the roar of their engines was particularly jarring in the silent wilderness.
Li Huaide sat in the passenger seat of the first truck, his body swaying with the vehicle's bumps. The desperate anxiety he had displayed during the day had been replaced by a mixture of excitement, tension, and a desperate ruthlessness. The blister at the corner of his mouth appeared even more red and shiny under the headlights, but he paid it no mind, his eyes fixed on the endless darkness ahead, as if trying to pierce through it and see the scene inside the farm warehouse.
He slapped the driver on the shoulder: "Faster! We have to get everything back before dawn!"
The driver gritted his teeth and pressed the accelerator even harder, causing the Red Star brand Jiefang truck to groan under the strain.
In the back of the truck, seven or eight strong men were crammed in, all "reliable" transport team members handpicked by Li Huaide. Most were veteran factory workers, taciturn, quick and efficient, and most importantly, with clean backgrounds, families to support, and tight-lipped. At this moment, they gripped the truck bed tightly, struggling to maintain their balance amidst the violent jolting, their faces showing a mixture of bewilderment and tension. They had been urgently woken up in the dead of night by Deputy Factory Director Li, crammed into the truck, and driven to this desolate wilderness; none of them knew what "important supplies" they were to haul.
The truck stopped some distance from the farm. Li Huaide jumped out first and yelled to the back of the truck, "Everyone get out! Assemble!"
The team members quickly jumped out of the vehicle and stood in a row in the halo of the headlights, carrying the chill of the night wind and the fatigue of the long journey.
Li Huaide stood with his back to the car headlights, his face hidden in the shadows, only his eyes flashing with a chilling light. He walked to the front of the line, scanning each face with a gaze as sharp as a knife, as if trying to pierce into everyone's heart.
"Listen up, all of you!" His voice was low, yet carried an undeniable authority and ruthlessness. "Tonight's events are top secret in the factory! They concern the livelihoods of tens of thousands of people at our Red Star United Industrial Corporation, and are a matter of vital importance to the factory's export earnings!"
He paused, letting the heavy weight settle in everyone's hearts, before squeezing out each word through clenched teeth: "When you go in later, whatever you see or hear, keep it all to yourselves! From this day forward, forget everything that happened tonight! Anyone who dares to utter a single word outside..."
He took a sudden step forward, almost touching the face of the team member standing at the front, his eyes wide open, filled with blatant threat: "I'll make him sweep toilets for the rest of his life! Until he retires! Until his son takes over and continues sweeping! Do you understand?!"
A deep, harsh voice echoed through the silent wilderness, carrying a chilling aura. The team members were stunned by this sudden, stern reprimand, instinctively straightening their backs and growling in unison, "Understood!"
"Speak louder! Haven't you eaten?" Li Huaide growled.
"Understood!" The voices were in unison, with a slight, almost imperceptible tremor.
Li Huaide nodded slightly in satisfaction, his intimidating aura softening somewhat, but his eyes remained sharp: "Very good. Remember your words. Now, come with me! Be quiet!"
Without another word, he turned and led the way, trudging through the darkness towards the dilapidated warehouse that was faintly visible deep within the farm. The team members exchanged glances, all seeing tension and gravity in each other's eyes. No one dared to ask a question, silently following behind Deputy Director Li, disappearing into the boundless night. The truck's headlights were turned off, and darkness returned, with only a faint glimmer of moonlight seemingly guiding them from the direction of the warehouse in the distance.
