Love in the Courtyard: Starting with Engineers

The streets of Causeway Bay were bustling with people, and the shops were filled with trendy goods. Li Yu was dressed in casual clothes and carrying several exquisite paper bags. Inside were cartoon dolls for his daughter and silk scarves, a specialty of Hong Kong, for Bai Ling.

He rarely had half a day of free time, so Company Commander Zhang followed him at a distance, his eyes scanning the surroundings warily, afraid of making any mistakes.

Li Yu had just walked up to a pastry shop, intending to buy some pineapple cakes to take home, when the system in his mind suddenly emitted a rapid notification sound: [Ding! Strong murderous intent detected: 999!]

He paused, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

He looked up without making a sound, his gaze sweeping across the rooftop of the tall building opposite, where a reflection seemed to flash by.

"Company Commander Zhang, I'm going to the restroom." Without waiting for a response, he quickly turned into a side alley.

Company Commander Zhang's expression changed, and he immediately led his men to give chase. However, the alleyways were full of forks, and by the time they rushed in, Li Yu had already disappeared.

"Damn it!" Company Commander Zhang cursed under his breath and quickly ordered his men to split up and search.

Li Yu was standing in the dead-end alley. He took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a drag. The smoke slowly swirled around his eyes.

Not long after, a series of hurried footsteps approached, and five men dressed in black suits and wearing sunglasses rushed into the alley, each holding a gleaming dagger.

The leader of the group said, "I didn't expect you to have so much guts, daring to run away alone! Today is your death day!"

Li Yu flicked his cigarette ash, a mocking smile playing on his lips: "You bunch of good-for-nothings think you can take my life?"

Before he could finish speaking, the leader lunged at him, brandishing a dagger.

Li Yu dodged to the side and punched the man in the chest with his backhand. The man groaned and flew backward, crashing into the wall and passing out.

Seeing this, the remaining four rushed forward, brandishing their daggers, each move deadly.

In just a few moments, the four assassins collapsed to the ground, groaning in pain.

Li Yu walked up to the leader of the group, placed a foot on his chest, and said coldly, "Speak, who sent you? And who is that informant on the rooftop across the street?"

The man winced in pain, sweat pouring down his face, but he still stubbornly insisted, "Don't you dare want to know! We won't tell!"

Li Yu's eyes turned cold, and he slightly increased the pressure on his feet. The man screamed, his face turning deathly pale, and he hurriedly begged for mercy: "I'll talk! I'll talk! It was...it was Chen Qingshan! He was watching us from the opposite rooftop with binoculars, telling us to make our move!"

"Chen Qingshan?" Li Yu frowned, not expecting that this guy would actually dare to come looking for death.

He then stood up and kicked each of them, stomping their sternums into their hearts.

Then he quickly walked out of the alley.

Chen Qingshan was sitting on a sofa, holding a wine bottle, enjoying the wine with his eyes closed.

He had just opened his eyes when he saw Li Yu standing in front of him. He jumped up and cried out in terror, "You... how did you get here? Where are my men?"

"Your men? They're all lying in the alley. I spared your life last time, and instead of repenting, you dare to come and kill me?"

Chen Qingshan said with a mournful face, "Chief Engineer Li, I had no choice! Those Western capitalist groups forced me! They took away my whole family, I had no choice!"

Li Yu looked at his cowardly appearance and smiled disdainfully: "No other way?"

Immediately afterwards, Chen Qingshan felt a pain in his chest. Looking down, he saw that the wine bottle he was holding had somehow been plunged into his chest.

He turned and walked out of the room, took out his phone and called Company Commander Zhang: "Company Commander Zhang, the rest of the matters are yours to handle."

A few days later, Li Yu returned to Beijing.

Yan Bugui, wearing a faded white shirt and carrying a net bag of apples, paced back and forth at the entrance of the family compound, his face full of struggle.

During this time, everyone in the courtyard has been talking about Longteng Electronics, saying that Longteng is now a globally renowned large enterprise with tens of thousands of employees and incredibly high salaries.

The two brothers, Yan Jiecheng and Yan Jiekuang, were eager to try it and kept pestering Yan Bugui to find Li Yu a job for them.

He was hesitating whether to go in or not when he saw Li Yu walk in from outside carrying gifts he had bought for his daughter and Bai Ling.

Li Yu nodded when he saw him: "Third Uncle, what brings you here?"
