Chapter 64 The Curse of the City of the Sea is Lifted
Congratulations! You have broken the curse that has shrouded the "City of the Sea" for five hundred years.
[All surviving citizens of Sea City have gradually regained consciousness. This message will be broadcast to them via the highest consciousness. You have received the token: 'Sea City Savior Medal'.]
The tide is going out.
The storm is subsiding.
But only those who survived know the calamities that befell this place.
After the rain, is there really a rainbow...?
A series of system notifications rang in Su Yuan's mind. He looked down and saw a medal made entirely of an unknown blue crystal, with an ancient design and engraved with the emblem of waves and a trident, lying quietly in his palm.
【Sea City Savior Medal】
Type: Token of Love
【Quality: Special】
[Description: A special token bestowed by a special will, awarded to those who save those from suffering.]
[Hidden Note: Possessing this item will elevate your status in the hearts of the people of Haidu to surpass that of the King.]
"A status higher than the king? That sounds impressive, but there aren't any kings around these days."
Su Yuan curled his lip. There weren't many merfolk left to begin with, not to mention that he had killed some of them not long ago.
Immediately afterward, the moment the text vanished, the entire temple began to shake violently, and dust fell from the dome.
Rumbling--
The stone slabs beneath my feet made a muffled thud, not because the building was about to collapse, but because the earth's crust deeper inside was shifting.
Su Yuan immediately understood that a huge change was taking place on the seabed.
"A chance to make a fortune has arrived!"
"Little Fatty, get out there and get to work! Come on, see what valuable things are in this main hall!" Su Yuan urged.
The treasure-guarding spirit poked half its head out of the treasure chest. It first glanced fearfully at the lightning arcs on Su Yuan's body that had not yet completely dissipated, and then sniffed carefully in the empty hall.
A few seconds later, its chubby little face scrunched up: "My lord, there's not a single coin of wealth here... nothing at all except these stones."
"Empty?" Su Yuan raised an eyebrow.
He immediately recalled the eyeball monster's last words.
"In the secret room on the right, there are some items that I'm not interested in, but you are free to take them."
Why would a projection that has been cornered and has no ability to do anything be so kind as to leave a treasure for me?
Su Yuan sneered inwardly.
He knows this routine well; isn't that how it's always portrayed in movies?
That eyeball monster is most likely up to no good.
He managed to kill a projection but only got a badge that sounded impressive but whose use he didn't know yet. He didn't get any substantial rewards, so Su Yuan felt unwilling.
What if? What if that guy was just bluffing and there really is treasure inside?
"Little Fatty," Su Yuan tapped the treasure chest, "do you have any small gadgets that can move on their own and be sent in to scout ahead?"
"Scout ahead?" The treasure-guarding spirit paused for a moment, then understood what Su Yuan meant. It rummaged through the treasure chest for a while.
Before long, it crawled out carrying a doll about half an arm's length tall, made entirely of wooden parts.
"My patron, this is called a wind-up doll. It's not very technical. I just made it out of wood when I was bored. You wind it up and it moves forward on its own, but it can only move in a straight line and can't do anything else complicated."
"As long as you can walk, that's fine."
Su Yuan took the wind-up doll, weighed it in his hand, then picked up the treasure chest and headed towards the secret chamber on the right.
The stone door to the secret chamber was ajar. Su Yuan did not push it open rashly, but stood outside the door and twisted the wind-up doll in his hand a dozen times until it could not be wound any further.
He slipped the doll through the crack in the door and placed it on the ground.
"Crunch... crunch..."
The doll walked with stiff steps, swaying as it entered the depths of the dark, secret room.
Su Yuan immediately retreated to the other side of the corridor, completely hiding his body behind the wall, only peeking out half of his head to observe.
The secret room was quiet, with only the creaking sound of the puppet moving forward echoing in the background.
A minute passed.
Two minutes passed.
Su Yuan was extremely patient and remained motionless.
Until the third minute was almost over.
boom--!
A heavy thud came from the secret room, accompanied by the sound of a sharp blade cutting through wood.
When Su Yuan looked again, the secret room had returned to calm, and the "creaking" sound had disappeared.
A knowing smile appeared on his lips.
Su Yuan walked to the door and saw that the wind-up doll on the floor in the center of the secret room had been cleanly and decisively cut in half by a huge blade that fell from the ceiling.
Gears, springs, and wooden parts were scattered all over the ground, creating a chaotic scene.
"Trying to play these tricks on me?" Su Yuan cursed, then noticed several locked wooden boxes against the wall at the deepest part of the secret room.
He activated his "Softening" talent, and the flesh of his right arm quickly became soft and elastic. Then, like a strange, fleshy noodle, it stretched continuously and silently entered the secret room.
The arm swung through the air around the still-retracted giant blade and directly towards one of the treasure chests.
Just as his hand was about to touch the lock on the box!
call out!call out!
Suddenly, two hidden compartments popped open on the walls on either side of the treasure chest, and two poisoned arrows shot out, accurately aiming at the location of the treasure chest.
But Su Yuan's arm was already stretched to an extremely thin length, making him too small a target. Two cold arrows grazed his skin and flew past, embedding themselves in the opposite wall.
"There's a second level?"
Without pausing, Su Yuan lifted the lid of the box.
The box was empty.
No, it wasn't entirely empty; several skeletons lay inside.
Su Yuan could sense that these were real bones, their only value probably being to be burned for warmth.
They can't even extract the talent attributes; heaven knows how many years they've been dead.
He controlled his arm and opened several more boxes in succession, only to find the same thing.
"Damn it! That bastard, he's got no good intentions!" Su Yuan withdrew his arm, cursing through gritted teeth. "Luckily, I never believed you in the first place!"
It seems there's really no profit to be made here.
The curse has been lifted, and the tremors in the temple have gradually subsided.
Su Yuan suddenly realized something, and his expression changed.
He shoved the guardian spirit back into the treasure chest, picked up the chest, and rushed out of the temple.
As he passed through the barrier that isolated the seawater, the scene before him made his pupils shrink.
The once deep, dark seawater is now receding rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye, and the ruins of a city that has been submerged for five hundred years can already be vaguely seen below.
A massive whirlpool formed in the distance, and countless fish caught in it thrashed about in terror.
The barrier outside the temple also began to become unstable under this enormous suction force.
Su Yuan dared not delay. His bone wings suddenly unfolded, crackling with electricity, and he shot into the sky like a cannonball, directly breaking out of the sea.
The torrential rain that had been raging in this place for who knows how many years had finally stopped. The dark clouds dispersed, and the long-awaited sun hung high in the sky, its warm rays shining down on us.
Su Yuan looked down and saw that the sea level in the entire Pearl River Estuary was dropping rapidly, revealing large areas of wet mudflats and the outline of mountains.
Su Yuan quickly determined the direction and flew towards the mountain valley where his train was parked.
"Small fire!"
As soon as they landed, the train doors opened with a click.
Su Yuan rushed in without even saying goodbye to Xiao Huo, heading straight for the warehouse carriage at the back.
He quickly opened the warehouse management interface.
The next second, Su Yuan's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.
In the inventory, the rows of neatly arranged "mermaid flesh" were now clearly labeled "human flesh".
And those mermaid bones also turned into human bones.
As the curse was lifted, all the twisted creatures returned to their original forms.
"I... damn... horse..."
Su Yuan almost fainted from catching his breath.
The only saving grace is that the [Mermaid Oil] obtained from killing the six-legged merman is still there, and its attributes haven't changed. This thing seems to be an energy crystal, not belonging to the category of flesh and blood.
But this small comfort was far from enough to soothe Su Yuan's inner turmoil.
"Well... how about I eat all this stuff?" Little Fire suggested timidly. "It's all organic matter anyway, it should burn pretty well..."
"It's not impossible, wait a minute..."
Just then, Su Yuan suddenly sensed that a large number of auras were approaching the train.
Not just one or two, but a whole group.
Su Yuan's expression quickly brightened. He went to the front of the car and looked out through the window.
Outside the train, the open space was filled with men and women, young and old.
They were dressed in tattered, barely covering clothes, and their faces and bodies were still covered in scales and slime, making them look utterly wretched.
But they were no longer the bloodthirsty monsters they once were; their eyes held a sense of bewilderment, fear, and a hint of relief at surviving a catastrophe.
They were all survivors of the Sea City who had just recovered from their merman forms.
At this moment, a tall, resolute-looking middle-aged man stepped out from the crowd. With the original leader dead, he was probably one of only two people in the group who had a voice, so he naturally stepped forward.
He glanced at the steel structure parked in the valley, then looked up at Su Yuan standing at the door, his expression complex.
Then, he did something that Su Yuan didn't expect.
He faced Su Yuan's direction, his knees buckled, and he knelt down, his forehead hitting the wet muddy ground heavily.
slam-la-
As he moved, all the survivors behind him, a vast, dark mass, knelt down in unison.
The entire valley was deathly silent, with only the sound of the wind blowing through it.
