What does it feel like to travel at high speed through the mountains and forests?

Su Yuan knows now.

He was like Tarzan in the movies, stretching out his arms, grabbing a thick vine, and using the momentum to swing his body more than ten meters away. He adjusted his posture in mid-air and landed steadily on the trunk of another big tree.

With a light tap of his toes on the tree trunk, his body shot out like a cannonball once again.

The wind whistled past my ears, and the trees and bushes beneath me rushed past.

This feeling is amazing! It's so incredibly awesome!

This is true power!

He even had the leisure to look down at the forest below from the air.

With his perception fully activated, the entire forest formed a three-dimensional, dynamic map in his mind.

There's an ant colony moving house, a snake coiled on a branch in disguise, a wild mouse digging a hole—everything is exposed.

"The intelligence report said there were many poisonous snakes here, and it really wasn't wrong."

During his flight, Su Yuan saw at least a dozen snakes of various kinds.

There were emerald green bamboo vipers, black and white banded kraits, and vipers coiled in piles of dead leaves, almost invisible unless you looked closely.

If it were an ordinary person, or even a seasoned veteran, walking in such a place would be nerve-wracking, requiring them to look around carefully with every step.

But for Su Yuan, these so-called dangers were as clear as the red dots marked on a map.

He can even plan his escape route half a minute in advance, leaping over these venomous snakes from above, beside, or even before they can react.

It was as if we were in an empty place.

"The visitor aid center... is in that direction."

Su Yuan stopped on the canopy of a large, old tree and gazed at a spot on the mountainside in the distance.

In his line of sight, there was the outline of a man-made building.

Although it was mostly covered by plants, its neat square structure stood out in nature.

Having set his goal, he no longer delayed.

They sped off again.

What might take an ordinary person several hours, or even half a day, to traverse, Su Yuan completed in less than ten minutes.

Not to mention that the stopover time this time is only three hours, and the stopover time for those who arrive later will be even shorter.

Most people are destined to only be able to find resources on the outskirts. If they have an axe or a machete, they might be able to collect some wood.

As Su Yuan nimbly jumped down from the last tree, a solitary wooden house appeared before him.

The log cabin looked quite old; the logs on the walls had turned a deep black, and the roof was covered with thick moss and fallen leaves. Several vines, like green pythons, coiled around the cabin, almost blending it into the entire forest.

In front of the house was a small open space overgrown with weeds. A faded wooden sign was stuck crookedly in the ground, the words on it were blurred and illegible, but the words "Tourist Rescue Center" could still be vaguely made out.

"We've finally arrived."

Su Yuan breathed a sigh of relief and quickly walked over.

The doors and windows of the house were all tightly closed, and a huge old-fashioned brass lock hung on the door, which was already rusted.

He reached out and pushed the door, but it didn't budge.

Su Yuan then walked to the door, raised his right foot, and kicked it hard at the lock.

"Bang!"

A dull, loud bang.

The thick wooden door, frame and all, shattered open inwards, sending splinters of wood flying everywhere.

"Hmm, the force was alright, but I didn't control it well. Be gentler next time."

Su Yuan mentally assessed the destructive power of his casual strike.

A physical fitness score of 50 is no joke.

Su Yuan stepped into the wooden house.

A musty, damp smell mixed with dust and mold hit him, making him wrinkle his nose involuntarily.

The room was dimly lit, with only a little light coming in from the kicked-open doorway and a few dusty windows.

Su Yuan glanced around and noticed that the layout of the room was very simple.

To the left are two bunk beds, the bedding piled up haphazardly and covered with a thick layer of dust.

To the right is an office desk and several filing cabinets, with some papers and folders scattered on the desk.

Against the wall directly opposite the door, there was a large storage cabinet, and next to it stood several tools, which looked like shovels and hoes.

"It seems the intelligence was correct; this is indeed where the forest rangers live."

Su Yuan felt more confident.

The presence of a bed, a table, and a cabinet indicates that the living facilities here should be quite complete.

However, the food items should have already rotted, since it looks like no one has been here for at least five years.

I don't know where the people inside went, or what changes have occurred in this matter.

"Let's look for something usable first."

Su Yuan first walked to the storage cabinet by the wall.

This cabinet is made of wood and is not locked.

He reached out and opened the cabinet door, and an even stronger smell of mothballs mixed with a musty odor rushed out.

Several dark green, thick coats were hanging inside the cabinet; they were probably the work uniforms of forest rangers.

Although the design is old-fashioned, it looks quite sturdy, and because of the smell, it hasn't gotten infested with insects.

"Take it."

"But these coats are for winter protection. Let's see if we can find a stream when we get back."

As Su Yuan thought to himself, he closed the cabinet door and turned his gaze back to the desk.

The table was a mess, but one thing caught his attention.

It was an open notebook, filled with writing.

"The forest ranger's diary?"

Su Yuan picked up the diary on the table and gently blew away the dust.

The cover is a dark blue hard cover with the words "Work Log" printed in gold foil, but most of the gold foil has already worn off.

Su Yuan opened the first page. The handwriting was neat and legible, written with a fountain pen. One could imagine that the owner of this diary must have been somewhat educated, since who in their right mind would write a diary?

December 12th, sunny.

Today was another peaceful day. I didn't find anything unusual during my patrol, except that there seem to be more snakes in the forest lately, and they're particularly aggressive. I'd like to remind tourists to be extra careful. Old Li got grazed by a bamboo viper yesterday; luckily he was wearing thick pants, otherwise it would have been troublesome.

October 15rd, cloudy.

[The weather is a bit muggy, it feels like it's going to rain heavily. Today, we found a nearly mangled wild boar carcass in the mountain stream to the east. It was quite large, probably weighing around 300 pounds. Judging from the wounds, it didn't look like it was killed by a tiger or leopard, but rather by a group of predators. When did such powerful predators appear in the forest? I need to report this to my superiors.]

Su Yuan turned the pages one by one, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.

The beginning of this log is fairly normal, consisting mainly of records of daily mountain patrols.

But the later the records went, the stranger they became.

[July 3th, heavy fog.]

The fog was so thick today that visibility was less than five meters. The three of us—Old Li, Old Wang, and I—were patrolling the mountains together and didn't dare get separated. The forest was eerily quiet; we couldn't even hear birds chirping or insects buzzing. The strangest thing was that our compasses and cell phones both malfunctioned, just spinning in circles. If it weren't for Old Li's experience and knowledge of the route, we might have perished in the mountains today.

December 10th, sunny.

[Something terrible has happened! Brother Liu and the others at the western camp have gone missing! They were fine yesterday, but today we haven't been able to get in touch with them by radio! A search and rescue team was sent over, but they've searched all day and found nothing. Brother Liu and the others are veteran forest rangers; they couldn't possibly have gotten lost in the mountains. I have a bad feeling about this.]

October 12rd, cloudy.

The search and rescue team has withdrawn; they found nothing. The park is temporarily closed, and tourists are no longer allowed to enter. We've also been asked to stay at the rescue center and not go out unnecessarily. The atmosphere is getting increasingly oppressive. Old Li has been smoking one cigarette after another these past few days, and Little Wang keeps talking in his sleep at night, shouting, "Don't come any closer!"

On the last page of the journal, the handwriting became extremely messy, as if it had been written by someone in a state of extreme fear.

[September 15th, black...all black...they came...from the fog...to save...]

The writing ends here, ending with a deep, ink-soaked scratch, as if the writer had used up their last bit of strength.
