Chapter 75 News from the Gold Shop!
"A gambling den?" Xia Jin glanced at Qian Fu and couldn't help but frown.
After all, gambling dens are places where all sorts of people mingle, and it's hard to tell whether the information is true or false.
Qian Fu patted his chest and said, "Boss, you don't know, this is a gambling den on the surface, but the people behind 'Qianjin Fang'... I heard they are from the palace."
"I've heard that if you can afford the price, you can even get close to certain things happening in the palace."
Xia Jin's eyes lit up immediately.
If he can find out the information he wants, money is irrelevant.
"Master, if you are truly interested in inquiring about something important," Qian Fu said earnestly to Xia Jin, "I will take you there."
Xia Jin smiled, then with a flick of her wrist, a golden ingot weighing ten taels landed in Qian Fu's arms.
"Here you go. Settle things down first. You're familiar with the shop, so just manage it as usual and keep the accounts straight." Xia Jin's voice was calm. "We'll go to 'Qianjinfang' tonight."
Qian Fu hurriedly caught the gold ingot. The heavy feel of it instantly smoothed out the wrinkles on his face, and he said repeatedly, "Thank you so much, sir! Don't worry, sir! I will handle the shop and this matter perfectly!"
As night fell, Qian Fu drove his carriage and finally stopped beside a rather grand street.
Across the street, a three-story building was brightly lit, with its vermilion doors wide open and the three large characters "Qianjinfang" hanging above the door.
"Master, we've arrived, this is it." Qian Fu stopped the carriage and pointed to the opposite side.
Xia Jin pushed open the car door, intending to walk towards the main entrance.
"Master! Wait!" Qian Fu hurriedly called out to him, quickly stepped forward, tugged at Xia Jin's sleeve, and gestured for him to look at a dark and narrow passage to the side. "Not there, it's this way. We have to go in through the 'back door'."
Xia Jin glanced at Qian Fu, said nothing, turned around and followed him into the dimly lit alley.
After winding their way through several turns, the two finally arrived at an inconspicuous little door. This place was so hidden that no one would know it unless they were specifically looking for it.
"Well, Lao Qian," Xia Jin stopped and looked around, her expression somewhat strange, "you can even touch this place?"
Qian Fu's face showed a hint of smugness: "Master, you flatter me. I've been delivering rice and goods in Tianyu City for many years, and I've met all sorts of people. Sometimes when I see someone in trouble, I'll give them a bowl of rice or a place to shelter from the wind, which is considered accumulating some good karma. This place... is where a former apprentice I helped found a job."
After saying that, Qian Fu stepped forward and knocked on the wooden door a few times rhythmically.
After a while, the door opened a crack, revealing a wary face. The man's tense expression relaxed slightly when he saw Qian Fu, but his gaze immediately swept towards Xia Jin behind him.
"Old Qian? What brings you here at this hour? We didn't ask you to deliver rice or grain today." The person who opened the door looked at Qian Fu with a hint of doubt in his eyes.
Qian Fu quickly waved his hand, stepped aside to let Xia Jin pass, and put on a smile: "Brother Wang, I'm not here to deliver anything. It's my boss," he pointed to Xia Jin, "who has something he wants to ask about."
The man called "Brother Wang" looked Xia Jin up and down carefully, seemed hesitant, glanced at Qian Fu, and finally opened the door a little: "Come in. Keep your voice down."
Brother Wang led them across the courtyard and into a dimly lit side room.
A middle-aged man with a thin face was leaning back in a chair, legs crossed, slowly smoking a pipe.
As soon as Qian Fu entered the room, he bowed and stepped forward respectfully, saying, "Second Master, I apologize for disturbing you. This is my master, who came to inquire about some information."
The middle-aged man, referred to as "Second Master," didn't even fully lift his eyelids. He merely glanced at Xia Jin, then casually pointed to a row of wooden plaques hanging on the wall while holding his pipe.
Xia Jin looked in the direction he pointed. Five signs, ranging in color from light to dark, hung neatly on the wall. Each sign had a price tag engraved in small print below it.
"The information here has a price tag," the man called Second Master finally spoke. "You can get as much information as your money allows. No deception, young or old, but once you've paid, you can forget about it."
Xia Jin's gaze swept over the row of signs, then she pointed to the gold sign.
"I want the most expensive one."
"Hmm?" Second Master paused in his smoking. He slowly sat up straight, took the pipe from his mouth, and looked at the "boss" brought by Old Qian with slightly narrowed eyes.
A few seconds later, Second Master gave Brother Wang a wink. Brother Wang understood, immediately turned around and took Qian Fu out, quietly closing the door behind him and standing guard outside.
Only Xia Jin and the Second Master remained in the room.
"The most expensive... What would you like to ask, sir?" The second master's gaze sharpened instantly.
"The Sixth Prince," Xia Jin said calmly, meeting his gaze. "I want all information about the Sixth Prince. Anything you have here, I want it all."
Second Master stared intently at Xia Jin. After a long while, he suddenly tugged at the corner of his mouth, revealing a meaningful smile.
"Sir...it seems you're not from the Great Qian Dynasty?"
Xia Jin raised an eyebrow slightly, then laughed: "Does it matter? If I weren't from the Great Qian Dynasty, would you refuse to give me information?"
"Hahahaha!" Second Master suddenly burst into laughter. As he laughed, he stood up and bowed respectfully to Xia Jin: "Let's get to know each other again. I am Liu Tongtian. Everyone who makes a living in this Great Qian Tianyu City calls me Second Master."
"I have the information you requested about the Sixth Prince. However... it's very expensive! I wonder if you can afford it!"
"Name your price." Xia Jin nodded to the other party.
Liu Tongtian slowly raised his right hand, spread his five fingers, and compared them under the oil lamp.
Xia Jin glanced at the other person, then casually flipped her left hand and tossed a black cloth bag into their hand.
"The contents inside will be more than what you asked for, if not more."
Liu Tongtian's eyes flickered, and he reached out to take the cloth bag, untied the rope, and peeked inside.
The wrinkles on his face instantly smoothed out as he carefully put the bag away. When he looked up, he had a genuine smile on his face: "As expected of a big client."
Liu Tongtian said no more, got up and walked to a cabinet in the corner of the room, opened one of the drawers and took out a blue-covered book.
He gently pushed the book in front of Xia Jin.
"This contains all the information we can find and confirm about the Sixth Prince," Liu Tongtian said solemnly. "The rule is that you can only look at it here. After you've finished, I'll take it back. The contents must not be copied or circulated. Once we leave this room, we'll be strangers."
"clear!"
Xia Jin reached out and took the book. After carefully examining it, she suddenly frowned.
"Ten days ago, the Sixth Prince went missing. Did his mother, Consort Hua, and her entourage perish in the fire at Zhaojue Temple?"
He slowly raised his head and looked at Liu Tongtian: "Is this news absolutely accurate?"
Liu Tongtian's face clearly showed displeasure: "The information from 'Qianjinfang' has never been wrong!"
"Is that so?" Xia Jin's gaze suddenly fell on the window, a murderous intent flashing in her eyes.
"Second Master Liu, what do you mean by this?!"
