"Chang Xi, come out quickly!" Huo Dongjun wasn't angry, but he rushed to the pigpen door with concern.

The blood that spread to Chang Xi's feet seemed like two powerful hands, firmly binding her.

Chang Xi raised her hand, "I'm fine, don't come in!"

A dozen or so pigs swarmed around her, almost as if they were about to attack her.

In everyone's eyes, Chang Xi was standing in a pile of pig manure, with a stern expression.

"What the hell are you trying to do?" Seeing the bloodstains on her pants, she couldn't take it anymore.

The bloodstains suddenly stopped rising and receded, coalescing into a ghostly figure brimming with resentment.

The ghostly figure was a woman, disheveled and filthy, barely clothed, with limbs that looked like they were pieced together, twisted and bizarre.

She opened her mouth but couldn't make a sound.

Chang Xi felt a chill run down his spine when he saw her empty mouth.

The ghost's tongue was cut off.

Chang Xi held out his hand, "If you can't speak, you can write."

The female ghost pondered for a moment, as if she had forgotten how to write. Her blood-stained fingertips slid across Chang Xi's palm, one stroke at a time, laborious and awkward.

run.

This is the first character written by the female ghost.

You will die. Run!

"What do you mean?" Chang Xi frowned; the female ghost seemed to know something.

They harmed me, I will not die in peace.

Did this family cause you to become like this?

Changxi did not speak, but the female ghost could hear her thoughts.

The female ghost continued writing: They stole a child upstairs.

"Chang Xi!" Huo Dongjun shouted loudly as he saw Chang Xi staring blankly into the void.

The female ghost disappeared into the wall, and Chang Xi was able to move again.

She looked up and made a face. "Haha, scared you, huh!"

VJ was finally relieved; it turned out Chang Xi was just joking.

But Huo Dongjun knew she wasn't joking; he had seen it.

Chang Xi swaggered out, "I'm so thirsty, shall we go to his house for some water?"

Huo Dongjun, unaware of Chang Xi's intentions, readily agreed, "Alright."

Huo Dongjun knocked on the pig farmer's front door, but only opened it a crack.

The little girl looked at him warily. "What do you want?"

Huo Dongjun stepped aside, letting her see the film crew behind him. "Hello, we've finished our work and would like some water. May we come in?"

"No," the little girl immediately refused, "Daddy and Grandma said we can't let strangers in."

"We are really thirsty, please," Changxi pleaded with her, his hands clasped together in a pitiful gesture.

Why don't you go back and drink it?

Is there something wrong with this place?

These two are so thirsty, let's give them some water.

"Okay, drink up and let's go," the little girl finally couldn't bear it and opened the door.

Just before Chang Xi stepped into the kitchen, she made a gesture to Huo Dongjun.

He understood, and sat down on the small stool to chat with the little girl, "Little sister, what's your name?"

"My name is Li Pan'er."

"You pronounce the retroflex ending very well," Huo Dongjun nodded. "Li Pan, it's a very nice name."

"No, Li Pan," the little girl corrected him, "it's Li Pan'er, three characters."

Huo Dongjun's smile froze. After a couple of seconds of stunned silence, he said, "Really? Who named you?"

"dad."

"Where's your mother? I don't think I see her."

"She ran away."

"They ran away?"

"Grandma said that Mom ran away because she thought the family was poor."

How could there be such a heartless mother?

What a pitiful child, losing his mother at such a young age.

But her name is Li Pan'er. Doesn't this family seem to favor sons over daughters?

"I'm sorry," Huo Dongjun had never experienced anything like this before. How could he say it without reopening old wounds?

Chang Xi avoided the little girl's gaze and went into his room.

Where is the child?

She pushed open the bedroom door and saw the child on the bed.

He was tiny, wrapped in a cloth, with a pair of grape-like eyes that darted around; he didn't look like a little girl at all. When he saw someone coming, he just smiled while biting his fingers.

Chang Xi picked up the child, touched the little hand, and then pulled open the child's collar.

The boy has a red mole on his chest.

Chang Xi held the child in one arm and took out her phone with the other to take a picture of the child.

Just as I put my phone away, Li Pan'er walked in. "What are you doing? Give my brother back to me!"

Chang Xi dodged her hand. "Pan'er, is this child really your younger brother? He doesn't look like you at all."

Li Pan'er clenched her fists and lunged at her, shouting, "This is my brother! Give him back to me!"

"What are you doing? What are you doing?" Grandma Li and Dad Li returned, their eyes wary as they looked at everyone. "Didn't you agree not to come into my house? You've broken your promise! Where do you think you're taking my son?"

Chang Xi cautiously retreated and left the house, while Li's father picked up a carrying pole, ready to strike.

From the small clinic across the street, a doctor came out, raised his hand to stop Li's father, and said, "Old Li, what are you doing? Can't you talk things out instead of resorting to violence?"

Li's father shook him off, nearly throwing him to the ground.

Huo Dongjun, who caught up with him, casually pulled him aside, but they parted ways immediately.

Chang Xi was about to explain when Huo Dongjun grabbed her hand and took the child from her arms. "I'm sorry, brother. We just came to ask for a drink of water. The child was so cute that we wanted to hold him. We're so sorry for making you misunderstand."

Mr. Li took the child, still unwilling to believe it. "Hurry up and leave, I don't want you to take pictures anymore, let's go!"

Huo Dongjun pulled Chang Xi along, and the film crew followed.

As Chang Xi left the Li family home, she seemed to sense something and turned around to look at Li's father. His eyes revealed a mixture of disgust and surprise.

Li's father had met her; Liu Jun's family wasn't lying, she really had lived in this village for a period of time.

Judging from the child's appearance, he was definitely not Li's father. The woman in the pigsty and the Liu family members who had no blood relation to Chang Xi made Chang Xi restless and unable to eat or sleep.

That feeling of being close to the truth yet separated by a thin veil isn't pleasant.

"Master, Master!" Lu Wenli shouted, so loudly that Chang Xi's eardrums almost burst.

"Call back the soul," Chang Xi said, touching his ears and sitting up straight.

Lu Wenli inquired, "I called you to eat, why are you spacing out? Are you still upset about being driven out by the villagers? It's nothing serious, don't worry about it."

There was no point in arguing with this silly roe deer, so Changxi snatched the bun from his hand and took a big bite.

Chang Xi's gaze fell once again on the tightly locked ancestral hall door.

Why is an ordinary ancestral hall locked?

If you are worshipping a deity, why not place it in an open area instead of hiding the statue in a dark and damp corner?

Chang Xi's nominal older brother, Liu Chuanjia, came over and put his arm around her shoulder in a familiar manner. "Come on, let me show you the room that Mom and Dad prepared for you. You'll sleep in this room tonight. It's a token of our parents' love."

Chang Xi tilted his head and glanced at the hand on his shoulder, but said nothing.

These two siblings standing together look nothing alike.

Did Chang Xi win the genetic lottery?

Why do I feel that Chang Xi's eyes are cold and distant?

Perhaps she hasn't been able to accept that her family is so poor?

Huo Dongjun brushed away his oily hand, "Just talk, don't touch me."

"What business is it of yours if I touch my sister?!" Liu Chuanjia said rudely.

"Brother, how can you talk to a guest like that?"

Chang Xi slapped him on the back, and Liu Chuanjia stumbled and fell against the railing. The guests watched as the talisman Chang Xi had stuck to his back disappeared.

The camera can't capture this angle.

Everyone looked up at the sky and down at the ground, pretending not to see anything.

"What are you doing?"
