Xie Linyu's heart skipped a beat. He stood up from the chair by the French windows and, feigning composure, walked towards the kitchen door: "What's wrong?"

Fu Ciyan stood in the center of the kitchen, his gaze sweeping over the pots and pans that had clearly been used and were not completely cleaned, as well as the suspicious black, burnt-looking objects in the trash can, before finally settling on a few drops of sauce that had not yet been wiped clean from the edge of the sink.

He looked up and glanced coldly at Xie Linyu: "You messed with the kitchen."

Xie Linyu felt a little guilty under his gaze, but maintained a calm and composed demeanor.

"Yeah, I tried making something at noon." He paused, then added, "Don't worry, I didn't break anything, and it's all cleaned up."

"Clean it up properly?" Fu Ciyan's gaze sharpened instantly as he pointed at the trash can. "Don't you know how to empty a dirty trash can promptly? You can't even clean the used pots and pans properly, and you didn't even wipe up this sauce. Xie Linyu, you can't even handle such small things. How are you going to take care of Yaoyao in the future?"

Xie Linyu followed his gaze and looked at each of them, inwardly cursing himself for being careless.

But hearing Fu Ciyan's last sentence, which seemed to be using the situation as an excuse, made him feel increasingly annoyed: "This little thing, you really have to make a big deal out of it? I suggested buying a home care robot, but you wouldn't allow it. If you like cleaning so much, why don't you become a cleaner?"

The two locked eyes, and it felt as if tiny electric currents were crackling in the air.

Normally, one is as steady as a mountain, and the other is lazy and carefree. But at this moment, they are like two cats whose tails have been stepped on, their fur standing on end, attacking each other in the most childish way.

"A life-assistance robot?" Fu Ciyan sneered, his eyes full of disdain. "That kind of rigid, stupid thing, can it know what Yaoyao wants to eat today, or what she doesn't want to eat? Can it tell if Yaoyao is in a good mood today, or whether it needs to prepare a bouquet of flowers to cheer her up? Xie Yingdi, life isn't acting; you can't take good care of people with pre-set programs."

Xie Linyu retorted, his blue eyes narrowing dangerously: "Admit it, you're just an old-fashioned person who's afraid to accept new things and doesn't want to change. Does General Fu mean that only when you do everything yourself does it count as 'taking care'? I think you're just overly controlling! Taking on all the housework makes you seem indispensable. Yaoyao is an independent adult, not a pet that needs your meticulous 'pampering'!"

Fu Ciyan took a step closer, his aura imposing: "Of course she's independent, and she's never been my pet. But since we live together, mutual care and sharing of responsibilities are the bare minimum of respect, not like some people who create a mess and then act self-righteous, unable to even handle the most basic cleanup, yet want to rely on external forces. Are you suggesting we let her live alone, or are you just going to let her eat takeout and robot-made garbage?"

"If Lu Yao is really with me, I will naturally find a way to take good care of her. General Fu doesn't need to worry about that. Or are you worried that I will eventually take her away?" Xie Linyu also took a step forward.

Their noses almost touched, and they could feel each other's hot breath.

The cramped kitchen space was filled with the figures of two tall men, creating an atmosphere of tense confrontation.

"Take her away?" Fu Ciyan's expression was cold and sarcastic, his eyes full of mockery. "Xie Linyu, have you forgotten your current situation? Do I need to remind you? What are you going to give Yaoyao happiness with now? Or do you want her to suffer a life of widowhood with you?"

After saying this, Fu Ciyan turned away naturally, silently thinking: KO!

Xie Linyu was speechless after being confronted with this retort, because it was indeed his biggest problem at the moment—his impotence. He cursed, "Fu Ciyan, are you even human? Who is to blame for my current state? Don't you have any conscience?"

"You're not human, you have no conscience." After saying this, Fu Ciyan turned and glanced at him, his gaze so indifferent it could infuriate anyone. Xie Linyu immediately pointed at him, "You, you're so despicable, does Lu Yao know?!"

"Whether she knows or not," Fu Ciyan said calmly, turning on the tap and rinsing the rag, his voice serene, "doesn't change the fact that I'm stating the truth. Actor Xie, instead of raging here impotently, think about how to solve your own problems. After all..."

He paused, turned his head, and gave Xie Linyu an almost pitying look: "If the hardware is no good, no matter how much the software is optimized, it will be in vain."

This seemingly casual remark is more damaging than any harsh insult.

Xie Linyu's face flushed red instantly, veins throbbed on his forehead, and his chest heaved violently, as if he were about to explode at any moment.

He stared intently at Fu Ciyan's composed figure as he washed up, wanting nothing more than to punch him, but he remained calm: "You think I'd accept your provocation? I won't fall for your tricks. The one who laughs last laughs best. We'll wait and see!"

After Xie Linyu finished speaking, he turned and left. Fu Ciyan glanced at him with some surprise. Even after all this, he was still able to restrain himself from attacking him.

He did admire it somewhat.

"Were you two arguing just now?" Lu Yao woke up at some point, her face still bearing faint red marks from the pillowcase. Her long hair was slightly messy from sleeping, with a few stray strands sticking up unruly. She was rubbing her sleepy eyes and groggily leaning on the stair railing, looking down.

The two of them turned to look at the little girl who was leaning on the stair railing almost at the same time.

He looked like a little animal that had just peeked out of its warm nest, innocent and curious, with a softness that made him completely unguarded.

Especially her clear, black and white eyes, still misty with a thin layer of moisture from just waking up, looked exceptionally clear and innocent.

Fu Ciyan and Xie Linyu both froze.

Neither of them knew when Lu Yao had stood there or how much she had heard.

Fu Ciyan smiled almost instantly: "You're awake? Are you hungry? Dinner will be ready soon. You can come downstairs and sit for a while. Thank you for washing some fruit, Mr. Xie."

Xie Linyu agreed and opened the refrigerator without hesitation.

Lu Yao came downstairs and went to the kitchen. As she poured herself some warm water, she glanced at the two of them and said, "What you two just did..."

"We didn't argue, we were just chatting." After saying this, Fu Ciyan looked up at Xie Linyu.

Xie Linyu ignored him and took out strawberries from the refrigerator: "Want some?"

Lu Yao's attention was diverted by the large strawberry in his hand: "Was this newly bought?"

"Yeah, I saw it when I came back and thought you'd like it, so I bought some." Fu Ciyan had already washed the rice and put it in the steamer, set the program, and then turned around to throw the pots and pans that Xie Linyu hadn't washed properly into the sink to clean them again.

Watching his nimble movements, Xie Linyu had to admit that he was indeed inferior to Fu Ciyan in terms of daily life.

There's really nothing to argue about on this point, but he's not entirely without merits either. At least he understands Lu Yao's works better than Fu Ciyan and can present them perfectly!

This is something Fu Ciyan can never achieve!

Lu Yao looked at the two men busy in the kitchen, and for some reason, her cheeks felt slightly hot. She looked away uncomfortably.

Who is this person who has two tall and handsome men serving her? Who is secretly pleased with herself? She won't say!
