When Lu Yao regained consciousness from a chaotic darkness and dull pain, her nasal cavity was filled with the smell of dust and rust.

She struggled to open her eyes, but all she could see was a blurry darkness.

It took her a while to get used to it before she could barely make out where she was.

It was an extremely small space, seemingly an abandoned storage room or basement.

There were no windows, only a rusty iron door.

The only light source came from an emergency light on the ceiling, which barely outlined the general shape of the room.

She found herself with her hands and feet bound behind her back with rough plastic cable ties, unable to move. What was going on? Was she being kidnapped?

When she noticed Xie Linyu lying on the ground not far away, her panicked heart calmed down for a moment for no apparent reason. Then she softly called out, "Xie Linyu, are you alright?"

Xie Linyu, who was lying on the ground, moved slightly, followed by a muffled groan.

He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze initially unfocused before quickly sharpening and finally settling on Lu Yao.

"Lu Yao..." His voice was hoarse, "How are you? Are you alright? Are you hurt?"

He struggled to sit up, but his hands were tied behind his back, and the dizziness from the impact and the pain throughout his body made this simple movement extremely difficult.

"I'm fine, my hands and feet are just tied up." Lu Yao's heart clenched as she looked at the conspicuous bloodstains on his pale face. "How about you? Are you badly injured?"

"I won't die." Xie Linyu gritted his teeth, enduring the excruciating pain in his ribs and shoulders, and finally sat up against the wall. He took a breath and sharply surveyed the cell. "Sorry, it seems you've been implicated because of me."

Xie Linyu's voice was low and filled with undisguised self-reproach.

"Don't rush to apologize. How do you know these people are after you? What if they're after me?" Lu Yao struggled to sit up. She knew very well that now was not the time to shirk responsibility. What they should do now was find a way to leave this place.

She had just discovered that the terminals on her and Xie Linyu's wrists had been confiscated, clearly to prevent them from contacting the outside world.

"You're quite carefree, joking with me at a time like this. I've encountered a few overly aggressive sasaeng fans before, but I managed to escape each time. This time, I was careless." Xie Linyu's tone revealed a hint of helplessness.

Lu Yao never expected that he had encountered such a thing before.

The two were talking in hushed tones when suddenly clear footsteps came from outside the iron gate, approaching and stopping at the entrance.

Xie Linyu immediately stopped talking, his body tensed slightly, and he pulled Lu Yao behind him to block her, although this action seemed futile and clumsy given that both of them were tightly bound.

The key is turned, and the latch is pulled open.

The iron gate was pushed open a crack, and blinding light shone in first, causing Lu Yao to squint uncomfortably.

Two people entered, both dressed in dark clothes and wearing black hoods that only revealed their eyes. One of them was holding an energy pistol and pointing it at them warily.

The other person had their personal terminal open, with the camera pointed at them, and was communicating with someone.

"Who are you? What do you want? Do you know this is illegal?" Xie Linyu spoke first, even though he knew these words might be ineffective against these kidnappers, he had no choice but to speak.

Just as Xie Linyu finished speaking, a mechanical voice using a voice changer came from the other party's terminal: "You bunch of idiots, why did you bring him here?"

One sentence made Lu Yao's heart tighten.

This statement is enough to prove that the other party was not targeting Xie Linyu. It is very likely that their guess was the opposite, and that she was the one who implicated Xie Linyu.

The man who was scolded quickly said, "No, it was an emergency. They were hugging each other and couldn't be separated, so we had to bring them back together. There was no other way."

"Useless!" The voice, processed by the voice changer, was even sharper and more piercing, filled with exasperation. "I told you to arrest her! Arrest only her! Who gave you permission to cause trouble? Who is Xie Linyu? Don't you use your brains?"

The subordinate holding the terminal was so scolded that he dared not utter a sound and kept his head down.

The one with the gun seemed somewhat resentful, muttering under his breath, "The situation was urgent; they were like conjoined twins, inseparable. Were we just supposed to give up?"

"Shut up!" the person on the other end of the voice changer interrupted sharply. "Forget it, what's the point of saying all this now? But it's fine this way, doesn't Fu Ciyan like this woman? Then let him see the woman he likes messing around with another man!"

Every word was like poison, viciously piercing Lu Yao and Xie Linyu's eardrums.

Lu Yao's heart sank to the bottom, and a chill ran through her entire body.

Xie Linyu's face was extremely grim. He suddenly raised his eyes and stared intently at the two masked men at the door.

"Are you crazy?" Xie Linyu shouted. "Do you know what you're doing? This is kidnapping, a serious crime! The people behind you, and you yourselves, won't escape!"

"A crime?" The person on the other end of the voice changer seemed to have heard a joke, making a strange, gurgling sound. "Don't worry, once we've finished and gotten what we want, we'll naturally 'clean up' the scene. As for the two of you, at least you can be happy ghosts!"

This blatant and malicious intent sent a churning through Lu Yao's stomach.

She forced herself to calm down, her mind racing: "Who are you? Why are you doing this? I haven't offended you, have I?"

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the voice changer, followed by a contemptuous laugh.

"Offend? Miss Lu, you overestimate yourself. You don't need to offend me; you're just blocking other people's way and getting in their way. As for why..."

The other person deliberately dragged out the words, full of malice, "Blame Fu Ciyan if you want. He's the one who put you in this position. He's the one who made your existence a thorn in the side of certain people."

Lu Yao caught the loophole in his words: "Qin Shu?"

She blurted it out.

The other party was silent for a moment, then said, "I don't know what you're talking about. Don't waste your breath on them, force-feed them the drugs, and record it now!"

"Wait!" Xie Linyu shouted sharply, "Since you're targeting Fu Ciyan, why don't you go find him? What kind of skill is it to deal with a woman! Besides, don't you know that harming a woman, regardless of the reason, will be punished with the death penalty if discovered? How dare you?"

"Shut up!" The other person was clearly impatient. "Fu Ciyan? Ha, once he sees the recording, it's hard to say whether he'll still be in the mood to cause us trouble! Xie, big star, don't try to stall for time. No one can find this place. Besides, you should thank me for getting to taste a woman before you die!"

The armed kidnapper stepped forward, the muzzle of his gun almost touching Xie Linyu's forehead, while the other held a murky pink syringe and spray bottle, threateningly waving them around.

Staring at Lu Yao, he said excitedly, "Boss, this woman is really something, she's got us brothers..."
