Fu Ciyan's voice was not loud, but it was unusually cold and hard.

The man in the orange windbreaker froze instantly, seemingly not expecting Fu Ciyan to be so direct and merciless in his rebuttal, especially with the suggestion that he should match up with Qin Shu himself.

Zhou Jinlu stepped forward, blocking the man's path. His gentle smile faded, and his tone became serious: "Ah Feng, that's enough. Apologize to General Fu and Miss Lu."

The man called A-Feng turned pale, his neck stiff with resentment, but under Zhou Jinlu's warning gaze and Fu Ciyan's icy stare, he finally reluctantly mumbled, "...Sorry, I misspoke."

"Not to me." Fu Ciyan turned her gaze to him. "It's to her."

Ah Feng gritted his teeth, looked at Lu Yao with a complicated expression, and finally whispered, "Miss Lu, I'm sorry."

Lu Yao didn't speak, but simply nodded and looked away.

She wasn't surprised by this dismissive attitude, but Fu Ciyan's protectiveness warmed her heart.

She gently tugged at Fu Ciyan's sleeve, signaling him that he didn't need to get entangled with this kind of person anymore.

Fu Ciyan took her hand in his, their fingers intertwined, and asked softly, "Are you cold?"

Lu Yao shook her head.

Zhou Jinlu looked at their clasped hands, something deep in his eyes darkening, but he maintained his composure: "General Fu, Miss Lu, I apologize again for my friend's rudeness. We will not disturb you any longer."

This time, he didn't linger. He pulled Ah Feng and quickly walked to the open space on the other side of the lake to start setting up their camp.

Watching them walk away, Lu Yao gently shook her hand, which was clasped with Fu Ciyan's, and looked up at him: "Are you very familiar with them?"

It seems like they all know each other.

"Not really, we just know each other. We're all in the same circle, and our families have some connections. We don't need to pay attention to what these people say; they won't affect us."

Lu Yao curled her lips into a smile: "I know."

Although she didn't really care what these people said, being firmly protected and chosen by Fu Ciyan still made her extremely happy.

After Zhou Jinlu and Afeng left, Afeng's sour face attracted the attention of others, who came over to ask what was wrong.

Zhou Jinlu didn't want to speak, but Afeng couldn't help but speak up.

"What else could it be? He ran into Fu Ciyan, and he's here pretending to be camping with his 'matchmaker'!" A-Feng kicked a stone on the ground in annoyance, his tone full of disdain. "I was just trying to be nice and mentioned Qin Shu a few times, and he acted like he'd been stepped on. Ha, he's really protective of her."

Another man, wearing a dark blue jacket and with a more composed demeanor, frowned upon hearing this: "Ah Feng, are you talking nonsense again? Don't you know what kind of person Fu Ciyan is? The people he protects aren't people you can just make up about. Did Brother Lu apologize for you again?"

Ah Feng retorted, "What did I say wrong? Everyone knows Qin Shu likes Fu Ciyan. Since he's willing to accept a marriage of convenience, why doesn't he choose Qin Shu? I think he's heartless!"

"Ah Feng!" Zhou Jinlu interrupted him, his voice lower than usual, carrying a clear warning, "Who he's with is his own choice. If you feel sorry for Qin Shu, you can go and match with her. No one will stop you, as long as you're willing."

Ah Feng, whose innermost secrets had been exposed, opened his mouth, but ultimately did not refute Zhou Jinlu's words.

He liked Qin Shu, thinking it was a secret, but in reality, all the brothers knew. However, Qin Shu was devoted to Fu Ciyan, and Fu Ciyan preferred someone else to Qin Shu. He was furious, so whenever he saw Fu Ciyan, he couldn't help but say a few words.

Others tried to smooth things over: "Forget it, we're here to relax today, let's not talk about these messy things. Besides, to put it bluntly, most people couldn't stand Qin Shu's personality. I don't understand why you're so fixated on him. Your dad agreed to let you refuse a match for a year, but will he let you refuse next year?"

Ah Feng's expression darkened further, and he muttered, "It's none of your business."

The atmosphere became somewhat tense for a moment.

Zhou Jinlu rubbed his temples: "Alright, let's set up the camp first. Aren't you all hungry?"

The others then shut their mouths and started working.

Compared to their side, Fu Ciyan and Lu Yao's progress was exceptionally smooth. Fu Ciyan had already set up the tent long ago, and Lu Yao was currently sitting on a small stool, eating the meat skewers that Fu Ciyan had just grilled.

The meat skewers are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sprinkled with Fu Ciyan's special spices, making them incredibly fragrant.

Lu Yao's eyes crinkled with delight as she ate, and she gave Fu Ciyan, who was brushing sauce onto the mushrooms, a thumbs-up: "Chef Fu, this is amazing!"

Seeing her enjoying her meal, Fu Ciyan smiled gently and placed the freshly grilled mushrooms in front of her.

The aroma wafted out, causing the people still setting up tents to swallow hard.

"Why does it smell so good? What are they making?" Someone couldn't help but crane their neck to look, trying to see something, but the distance was too far, and they could only see the smoke rising from Fu Ciyan's side.

"Can Fu Ciyan cook?" someone wondered.

"Have you forgotten his identity? He's always on missions, and his experience with wilderness camping is more than all of ours combined. This is no problem for him. I just didn't expect him to be such a good barbecuer. This smells amazing! Hurry up and get it done, I'm starving!"

Zhou Jinlu did not participate in their conversation, but turned to look at Lu Yao, seemingly lost in thought.

Ah Feng spat indignantly, "You used to act all aloof, but now you're just using all sorts of tricks to win a woman's heart, aren't you?"

Ah Feng's words carried a sour, sarcastic tone, sounding somewhat jarring on the lakeside as dusk deepened. Zhou Jinlu's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, but he didn't reply, instead quickening his movements.

Another friend chuckled and patted Ah Feng on the shoulder: "Alright, Ah Feng, shut up. It's their business whether General Fu is happy to pamper his partner. Instead of being sour here, think about what we're having for dinner tonight. Our barbecue skills are nowhere near as good as theirs."

That's true. Soon, a campfire was lit at Zhou Jinlu's camp, and various ingredients were laid out. However, compared to Fu Ciyan's professional equipment and smooth movements, they seemed a bit flustered. The food they roasted was either burnt or undercooked, and the aroma was far less tempting than what they had on the other side.

Ah Feng took a bite of his own chicken wing, which was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside, spat it out twice, and became increasingly irritated. He couldn't help but glance at the person opposite him again.

Lu Yao had finished eating and, since it was still light, wanted to take a walk around. Fu Ciyan didn't stop her: "Go ahead, but don't go too far."

Lu Yao nodded: "Don't worry, I'm nearby."

She didn't dare go too far; who knew if there were wild animals in those deep mountains and forests?

However, she hadn't walked far when she heard footsteps behind her. When she turned around, she saw Zhou Jinlu following behind.

Somewhat surprised, Zhou Jinlu said, "Sorry, Ah Feng doesn't know how to speak properly, please don't take it to heart."

Lu Yao shook her head: "It's okay, I don't know him, I won't take anything he says to heart, President Zhou doesn't need to apologize on behalf of others."

Zhou Jinlu seemed surprised by Lu Yao's words. After a slight pause, he couldn't help but say, "You seem to have a very good relationship with General Fu."

Lu Yao was puzzled as to why he would ask such a question: "He's my match, isn't it normal for us to have a good relationship?"

"Miss Lu Yao, after you finish matching with General Fu, would you consider me as your second matchmaking partner?"
