An Ning felt a sharp pain in her heart, making it hard to breathe. She questioned him, "That was your own choice, wasn't it? You willingly married me, willingly tried to please me! Lu Xiyan, don't forget, you were the one who begged me to be with you!"

Lu Xiyan's grip was so tight it almost crushed her, and his dark red eyes blazed with intense hatred.

He really wanted to strangle her!

With a "thud," he released An Ning and slammed his fist heavily against the elevator wall behind her.

An Ning staggered backward a few steps and leaned against the elevator, clinging tightly to it to prevent her body from sliding helplessly down.

The elevator slowly ascended, swayed slightly a few times, and then gradually stabilized.

"That's backbone!"

Lu Xiyan took two steps back, straightened his slightly wrinkled cuffs, and resumed his usual aloof demeanor.

"Anning, I'll wait and see how much your backbone is worth. You'll be begging me one day."

......

The elevator slowly ascended to the top floor. Lu Xiyan stood in the elevator with his hands in his pockets, still aloof and indifferent, as if he wasn't the one who had just been driven to the brink of madness.

Anning stood behind him, staring at his broad shoulders and back, tears streaming down her face.

She so desperately wanted to hug him.

Just like during the two years they were together, she wrapped her arms around his waist intimately, pressed against his broad back, and gently called him, "west Yan."

He can shield her from the storms of life, and he can give her a ray of redemption in her darkest days.

But that's no longer possible.

There was only immense hatred between them, a hatred that ran deep in their bones.

We can never go back to the way things were.

The elevator doors opened, and a slender and beautiful figure was waiting outside.

"Western Banquet!"

Cheng Wanwan looked at the man in the elevator, a fleeting look of surprise on her face.

Before the man could even come out, she immediately stepped forward and affectionately took his arm, smiling as she looked at the dessert box he was carrying. "You really brought me a cake? It's my favorite flavor!"

As she spoke, she stood on tiptoe and placed a kiss on the man's left cheek.

The man did not push her away, seemingly acquiescing to this intimate gesture.

An Ning's fingertips trembled, and she quickly looked away.

Cheng Wanwan seemed to only then notice her, her tone surprised, "An Ning?"

Hearing Cheng Wanwan's voice, An Ning finally snapped out of her daze and looked at the elevator.

She forgot to press the floor button when she came in, and the elevator went directly to the top floor where Cheng Wanwan lived.

She quickly wiped away her tears, concealing her emotions, and said, "I pressed the wrong floor."

"Are you here to see your mother?" Cheng Wanwan asked with concern. "Is your mother also in this hospital?"

"Mmm." An Ning nodded gently, her eyes still red. She looked at Cheng Wanwan's bandaged hand. "Your hand, is it alright?"

"It's not a big problem, it's just that eating and such is a bit inconvenient. But it's okay, we have Xiyan Restaurant."

As she spoke, she smiled and took the man's arm, looking up at his handsome profile. "He feeds me and takes good care of me."

An Ning nodded and smiled, "Then I won't bother you any longer."

She was about to press the elevator button when she said that.

"Wait a moment!"

Cheng Wanwan quickly called out to her, stepped into the elevator, and picked up the packing bag that had fallen to the ground. "Anning, is this what you packed? It's all on the floor."

An Ning accepted it. "Thank you."

"What did you eat?" Cheng Wanwan asked again. "This takeout looks quite appetizing. I didn't know what to eat for dinner tonight."

Lu Xiyan stood at the door, his cold gaze fixed on the takeout bag in An Ning's hand, a sneer in his heart.

"Chicken congee." An Ning tightened her grip on the bag in her hand, smiled slightly, "It's not anything particularly delicious, Miss Cheng probably won't like it."

"Chicken congee? That sounds pretty good." Cheng Wanwan hooked her arm around Lu Xiyan's and said coquettishly, "Xiyan, how about we have this for dinner tonight?"

The man sneered, his gaze fixed on An Ning's pale face. "She's definitely not a good person. Just hearing her name makes me lose my appetite."

Hearing his disdainful words, An Ning's eyelashes trembled slightly.

"Really?" Cheng Wanwan asked again. "But I remember you used to like eating that too, right?"

"I don't like it." The man denied it readily. "I didn't like it before, I don't like it now, I've never liked it."

Staring at her face, which was growing paler inch by inch, Lu Xiyan said, word by word, "Disgusting, greasy, and nauseating."

Cheng Wanwan glanced at An Ning out of the corner of her eye, then continued to whine to the man, "Alright then, let's eat something else."

She smiled and looked at Anning, "Then Anning, go and take the porridge to your mother. I won't take up any more of your time."

An Ning smiled gently and pressed the elevator button.

As the elevator doors slowly closed, she watched Cheng Wanwan intimately link arms with Lu Xiyan and walk towards the ward.

A handsome man and a beautiful woman, a perfect match in terms of social standing.

A marriage that is accepted and blessed by everyone.

They are indeed a perfect match.

......

As soon as they arrived at the ward, the man pulled his arm away from hers, and the intimacy they had just shared vanished.

Cheng Wanwan was momentarily taken aback, but quickly regained her composure and smiled faintly.

She took the cake from the man's hand and smiled gently, "west Yan, that was the first time I kissed you, and you didn't pull away."

Lu Xiyan said calmly, "Don't do that again."

Cheng Wanwan opened the cake box; it was a pudding cake, plain flavor.

The smile on his lips froze.

Why can't I remember?

Cheng Wanwan turned to look at him and smiled gently, "We're getting engaged, so we have to put on a show in front of others."

Lu Xiyan didn't reply, but glanced around the ward. "Did Aunt Han come today?"

"Mmm." Cheng Wanwan scooped up a bite of cake and held it to his lips. "My mom and Cao's mom came over. I sent them home last night."

"I don't eat sweets." Lu Xiyan walked to the sofa and sat down. "Did your nanny assault someone at the hospital?"

Cheng Wanwan looked at the cake in her hand, feeling a pang of sadness.

He doesn't eat sweets, but he used to.

"I've heard about it too." Cheng Wanwan put down the cake, sat down next to him, and looked at his calm expression. "It seems there was a misunderstanding. Cao Ma got angry and hit Anning. I've already talked to her about it."

Lu Xiyan turned to look at her, his eyes deep and clear. "No matter who was hit, this kind of thing shouldn't happen in a hospital. This is a hospital belonging to the Lu Group. You should know what project I'm working on right now. If this gets out of hand, it will have a bad impact."

His serious demeanor was incredibly intimidating.

Not wanting to upset him, Cheng Wanwan quickly said, "I understand, Xi Yan. I'll talk to Aunt Cao properly and make sure she doesn't cause trouble at the hospital anymore."

Lu Xiyan stood up. "I have something to do, so I'll leave first. Call a caregiver if you need one."

"Xi Yan," Cheng Wanwan grabbed his arm, "You just came to see me, are you leaving already?"

"I brought you a cake." Lu Xiyan raised his chin and pointed to the cake on the table. "It's your favorite flavor."

Cheng Wanwan smiled, but as she watched his departing figure, her smile was more like a grimace.
