Five years after my wife's death, she came back!
Chapter 8 Holding Tight
Before I knew it, a light snow began to fall outside, but inside it was warm and cozy.
When Shang Chenyan pushed the door open and came in, Shang Nian was already asleep in Shi Ying's arms.
The two squeezed onto the small sofa. Shi Ying had already taken a shower, and her hair was loose over her shoulders, the ends still a little damp.
She was still wearing the same clothes she had come in, a beige knitted sweater that hugged her slender body, and a small head rested on the slightly heaving curve of her chest.
Both of them had their eyes closed. Shi Ying's face was flushed, whether from the heat or the effects of the alcohol, it was hard to tell.
Shang Chenyan slowed his pace and first took Shang Nian out of her arms.
Shang Nian is a light sleeper; she opens her eyes as soon as she moves.
Seeing that she had been separated from the warm embrace, she flailed her limbs unhappily, stretching out her little arms to reach for Shi Ying.
"If you move around again, you'll wake her up," Shang Chenyan said in a low voice. "If she wakes up, she'll leave."
Shang Nian stopped moving.
She pouted, her eyes showing a wronged expression.
Shang Chenyan wasn't buying it. He pinched her cheek and said, "Go to sleep, you'll see her again tomorrow morning."
He placed Shang Nian on the bed and covered her with a blanket.
Just as he was about to stand up, Shang Nian grabbed his hand.
Shang Chenyan rubbed her head: "When has Daddy ever lied to you? Close your eyes and go to sleep."
Shang Nian then closed her eyes with relief, her small body curled up in the blanket, and naturally grabbed a doll and hugged it to her chest.
After she fell asleep, Shang Chenyan went to the sofa and picked Shi Ying up.
Shi Ying can't drink alcohol. Shang Chenyan poured her wine so elegantly that she impulsively accepted it, and the glass of red wine made her dizzy.
She still remembers holding a child and suddenly feeling an emptiness in her arms. She whimpered twice and reached out to grab it.
Just as Shang Chenyan bent down to pick her up, her slender arms wrapped around his neck.
There was a faint, sweet scent lingering on my neck, a subtle, ticklish sensation.
Shang Chenyan's Adam's apple bobbed, and he hugged her even tighter.
Shi Ying thought Shang Nian had returned to her arms and fell into a deep sleep, completely satisfied.
In her half-dreaming, half-awake state, she seemed to be surrounded by soft, panting breaths.
She felt a little hot, as if she were floating on the waves under the sun. A faint woody scent mixed with the heat filled her breath, and it seemed to be mixed with a hint of musk.
The dampness and heat made me dizzy and lightheaded.
After a long while, the heat that had enveloped her dissipated, and Shi Ying felt a little cold, so she couldn't help but shrank back.
In the darkness, only the faint light from the streetlights outside the window illuminated the tall figure on the window.
Shang Chenyan braced himself on either side of her, suppressing his low, labored breathing.
Sweat dripped down his short, jet-black hair, then onto the bed along his sharp jawline.
He turned over and sat on the edge of the bed, his infatuated gaze fixed on the person on the bed without blinking.
She was fast asleep and didn't even realize her lips had been kissed until they were swollen.
Shang Chenyan's eyes reddened. He reached out and gently stroked her eyebrows and eyes, his hoarse voice filled with intense desire: "Yingying..."
"Wife...you're back..."
"You're really back..."
He slowly bent down and embraced her, holding her tightly in his arms, murmuring her name again and again.
That night, the insomnia that had plagued him for five years seemed to disappear. He smelled the faint fragrance in his arms and slept very soundly.
In his dream, he saw Shi Ying again, just like he had in that year.
It was autumn in Jiangcheng. The ginkgo trees on campus looked like sunlight had been crushed and scattered on their branches. When the wind blew, the leaves fell to the ground, rustling underfoot.
Shang Chenyan has always been a loner. The excitement of the sports meet on the playground did not affect him, and he only found the cheers and applause of his classmates noisy.
He sat alone under a tree in the distance, quietly gazing into the distance.
"Shang Chen Inkstone!"
A sweet and soft voice sounded from behind.
He never knew his name could be called so sweetly.
He turned around and saw a girl wearing a white shirt and a navy blue pleated skirt running towards him with a smile.
Her skin was as white as snow, her round almond-shaped eyes were like a clear pool of water, and her long ponytail drew a beautiful arc in the air with her movements.
Her name is Shi Ying, and she is the class monitor, but the two have never spoken to each other.
She ran to his side: "Why are you here alone? Are you not feeling well?"
He shook his head.
"If you're not feeling well, remember to let me know. You can go home and rest earlier."
As she spoke, she took out a small, transparent box from behind her back, her eyes crinkling with a smile:
"I'll treat you to strawberry cake."
The dappled sunlight fell on her face, and even the ends of her hair seemed to shimmer with a soft glow.
A glance that lasts a lifetime.
*
Shi Ying was woken up by the alarm clock. With her eyes closed, she reached out from under the covers and groped around for a while before finally turning off the annoying alarm.
Shi Ying turned over and fell asleep again.
Two minutes later, the screen lit up again, and before the alarm could ring again, a slender finger pressed the button to turn it off.
Shi Ying took a comfortable nap.
The warm winter sun shone on her face through the gap in the curtains. She stretched and then lazily opened her eyes.
It was already broad daylight outside.
Shi Ying sat up abruptly, frantically grabbed her phone, and saw that it was already 10:30.
She hurriedly threw off the covers and jumped out of bed. When her feet touched the soft carpet, she suddenly remembered that she had slept at Shang Chenyan's house last night.
Also, she has the day off today!
Shi Ying leaned back and lay back down.
She opened her phone and saw several messages from Jiang Mingxue. After replying, she glanced at her alarm clock, which had already gone off.
Strange, why does it seem like she didn't hear me?
She's afraid she won't be able to get up in the morning, so she usually sets four or five alarms, but today none of them woke her up.
Shi Ying decided that she would order seven from now on!
She rolled around comfortably on the bed before getting ready to wash up.
Just then, the door was pushed open a crack, and a small head squeezed in.
Shang Nian, wearing fluffy bunny ear pajamas, saw that she was awake and ran in.
Shi Ying knelt down and hugged her: "Niannian, don't you have to go to school?"
Shang Nian shook her head, pressed her cheek against her neck, and called out in a very small voice, "Mommy..."
Shi Ying was taken aback, wondering if she had misheard.
"Niannian, can you speak?"
Shang Nian fell silent again, her big, innocent eyes just staring at her.
Shi Ying patted her head: "Niannian, you can't just call me 'Mom' like that. Your mom will be sad if she finds out."
Shang Nian lowered her head, but still held her hand.
Shi Ying sighed and took her to wash up, change clothes, and go downstairs.
"That's strange, didn't I sleep with you last night?" she asked as she walked.
Shang Nian blinked and opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
Shi Ying scratched his head, unable to figure it out.
She placed Shang Nian on the sofa and looked around but couldn't see Shang Chenyan. If he wasn't there and she didn't have his contact information, how was she going to get home?
"What are you looking for?"
Just as she was looking around, a sudden sound startled her, and Shi Ying stumbled and almost fell to the ground.
An arm was placed across her waist.
"Be careful." A deep, mellow voice sounded above him.
Shi Ying instinctively grabbed his shirt.
The man's handsome face was inches away from hers. She looked up slightly and met his unfathomable eyes.
A faint woody fragrance seemed to waft to her nose, and a wave of heat rose to her earlobe, as if the temperature around her was steadily increasing.
Shang Nian rested her hands on the back of the sofa, only her big eyes showing as she looked at the two of them.
"Mr....Mr. General Manager..."
Shi Ying shuddered and quickly pushed him away.
"Ding-dong—"
The doorbell rang suddenly.
Shi Ying ran away as if fleeing: "I'll go open the door!"
