Primordial Era: When a Good Guy Awakens a Morally Unethical System
Chapter 278, Emperor Xin Meets Daji
Inside the palace of Chaoge, Emperor Xin intended to select a concubine, but was forced to give up due to pressure from the court officials. However, looking at the concubines he had once favored, Emperor Xin found them bland and unappealing, and could no longer find them pleasing to the eye. His frustration grew, so he took his two favorite ministers, Fei Zhong and You Hun, to the royal garden for a hunt to relieve his boredom.
Di Xin was born with superhuman strength and had fought on the battlefield. His physique, capable of supporting beams and pillars, far surpassed that of ordinary people. He held a gleaming golden bow, drawing it to its fullest extent, and countless jackals, tigers, leopards, deer, foxes, and cranes perished under his arrows.
Fei Zhong and You Hun clapped and cheered from the sidelines, their flattering and boastful words making Emperor Xin overjoyed. He felt as if he were the ruler of the four seas and could be compared with a sage.
On his way back to the palace with his army, Emperor Xin happened to see a white shadow flash by in the forest. Upon closer inspection, he discovered it was a white fox, its fur as pure white as snow, its pair of bright black eyes brimming with endless cleverness and cunning, truly like a mountain spirit, endearing to all.
"Before leaving the palace, the Queen advised me not to be so busy having fun, as it was really annoying. I'll beat this fox and send her away, so she'll shut up!" After saying this, Di Xin lashed his horse with his whip and galloped away.
Fei Zhongyou quickly gave his men a signal, and the accompanying generals immediately spurred their horses and split into two groups to encircle the white fox, intending to capture it and present it to Emperor Xin.
To everyone's surprise, the white fox seemed to have divine assistance, its feet moving with the speed of the wind, disappearing into the forest in a few leaps.
Upon seeing the white fox disappear, Di Xin felt a surge of intense resentment and reluctance, as if something destined to be lost was slipping away from him. He spurred his horse even harder. He didn't know how long he chased after it, but before he knew it, he had arrived at the edge of a lake.
The lake was surrounded by lush trees, its waters as clear as sapphires, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. Wildflowers and exotic plants swayed around it, like graceful fairies, and a refreshing fragrance permeated the entire forest, making one forget all worries.
Di Xin and his soldiers were so engrossed in the beautiful scenery that they forgot the purpose of their journey.
Suddenly, a white shadow darted out of the forest; it was the white fox.
The white fox glanced at Di Xin with its clever and cunning eyes, then flicked its fluffy tail and leaped straight into the lake.
"Wait!" Seeing the white fox courting its own death, Di Xin hurriedly called out to stop it.
But it was too late; the white fox's figure had already vanished into the clear lake water.
Strangely, the white fox entered the water without causing a ripple. In an instant, white mist rose from the lake and soon filled the surrounding forest, adding an ethereal and otherworldly quality to the stunning lake scenery.
"This... Your Majesty, this place is quite eerie. Perhaps we should return to the palace first." Although the scenery was beautiful, Fei Zhong, a cunning strategist, was far more intelligent than ordinary people. He was not swayed by the beautiful scenery, but felt that the place was eerie and should not be lingered in. He could not help but advise King Zhou to return to the palace.
"I am the King of Men, protected by the destiny of the Great Shang Dynasty. What demons dare to offend me!" Di Xin waved his hand dismissively, his eyes fixed on the misty lake, showing a hint of interest.
A woman sat with her back to the crowd on a small boat, drifting slowly away with the current. Her long, black hair was like a cloud of clouds, and her figure was as graceful as a lotus in the water. She held a jade fan in her slender, jade-like hand, fanning herself idly, as if she were somewhat bored.
The furry ears revealed the woman's identity.
