Obsessive Young Master Wei: My Beloved Loses Control Every Night
Chapter 144 Mr. Chang, take care.
Chang Xiting's Adam's apple bobbed, his gaze once again involuntarily sweeping over their tightly clasped fingers. After a two-second silence, when he spoke again, his voice was still gentle, but it had lost some of its warmth:
"Of course. There are some execution-level details and unforeseen obstacles that need to be finalized. If Mr. Wei is interested, it would be good for us to listen together."
"Then I'll have to bother you." Wei Zixian's smile remained unchanged. He took Bian Zhizhi's hand, walked past Changxi Pavilion, and headed towards the office first. His familiar manner made him seem like half of the owner.
Xiao Lu came over carrying a stack of documents. Seeing this, she blinked and obediently greeted, "Good morning, Sister Zhizhi, good morning, President Wei, good morning, Mr. Chang," before quickly slipping away to prepare tea.
In the office, Chang Xiting took out a tablet, pulled up the project documents, and began to explain.
What he said were indeed real details, not entirely fabricated, but his attention was clearly not on the documents.
Wei Zixian pulled Bian Zhizhi to sit down on the sofa, and then sat down next to her, his arm casually draped over the back of the sofa behind her.
He listened attentively, occasionally raising one or two key questions, showing that he was not completely ignorant about the project, and even had some insights that Chang Xiting had to deal with carefully.
The discussion lasted for nearly an hour, and the basic issues were clarified.
Bian Zhizhi breathed a sigh of relief: "Let's set the general direction like this, and let Xiaolu handle the details. Xiting, you've been busy with all this since you just got back to the country, you've worked hard."
"Of course." Chang Xiting put away the tablet, stood up, and glanced at Wei Zixian's hand, which remained by Bian Zhizhi's side, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end he only said, "Then I won't bother you any longer. Let Xiaolu handle the follow-up."
"Take care, Mr. Chang." Wei Zixian also stood up, with a polite smile, and even nodded slightly.
Bian Zhizhi got up and saw Chang Xiting to the office door.
Just as Chang Xiting turned to leave, Wei Zixian's gaze caught a glimpse of a small piece of paper peeking out from the edge of his trench coat pocket: two tickets stuck together, with the logo of a famous singer and the concert date, which was this week, faintly visible.
Wei Zixian wore a victor's smile.
Just as Chang Xiting was about to step out the door, he spoke:
Mr. Chang.
Chang Xiting paused, then turned around.
Wei Zixian stood still, not looking at Bian Zhizhi, but instead facing Changxi Pavilion, the smile on his lips deepening.
"The tickets in my pocket need to be shared with someone else." He turned his gaze to Bian Zhizhi, who had just walked back to his side, put his arm around her waist, and pulled her towards him. Then he looked back at Chang Xiting, whose expression had changed slightly, and said, word by word:
"Sister, you have to stay with me tonight."
Chang Xiting's body visibly stiffened.
He looked at Wei Zixian, then glanced at Bian Zhizhi, who was being held by Wei Zixian without resistance. The last trace of warmth in his eyes finally shattered, revealing the loneliness beneath.
He didn't say anything more, just nodded, and turned to leave.
The office door closed gently.
Bian Zhizhi looked up at Wei Zixian, whose sharp aura had instantly vanished.
"Sister," he murmured, gently stroking the top of her head, "Was I... too pushy?"
But there wasn't a trace of genuine remorse in his tone; he was clearly acting innocent after getting the benefit.
Bian Zhizhi reached out and pinched his cheek, saying irritably, "What do you think?"
Wei Zixian immediately seized the opportunity, hugging her even tighter, and said matter-of-factly, "I couldn't help it. It's his fault for always wanting to ask you out."
After a while, as if he had suddenly gotten some kind of "inspiration" from Chang Xiting's concert tickets, he raised his head, his eyes shining slightly. The grievances and anxieties he had just felt vanished, and he turned back into the dog who only wanted to give her all the good things in the world.
"By the way, Zhizhi," he probed, observing her expression, "the concert... didn't seem that special. Crowded, noisy, and the air wasn't good either."
"How about..." he said expectantly, "we go to a concert? There's a classical music concert at the National Theatre next week. The concertmaster is a friend of mine who's known for years, and he can get the best box seats. It'll be quiet, elegant, and perfect for you."
These words were sincere, and his desire to give her the best experience was genuine. However, they also revealed his desire to do everything perfectly, leaving no room for comparison.
"Or," he continued, his thoughts wandering like a child eager to show off, "does your sister have a favorite celebrity? Whoever it is, I can arrange meet-and-greets and private dinners."
Bian Zhizhi was amused by his earnest and heartfelt manner, and her heart melted. She casually replied, "A celebrity... I can't think of anyone right now."
She mentally reviewed the entertainment news she had occasionally come across recently, and a name that had frequently appeared on trending searches because of a certain hit drama immediately came to her mind:
"I think there's someone named Zhou Yubai, his recent dramas have been pretty good? He's quite popular."
She really just mentioned it casually, and didn't even care much about what the celebrity looked like or how good their acting skills were.
However, Wei Zixian's expression froze almost imperceptibly for a moment.
He tightened his grip on her arm slightly, then immediately relaxed it, as if it were just a subconscious reaction.
But Bian Zhizhi keenly sensed that the atmosphere around him seemed to quiet down for a moment.
He lowered his head, his forehead gently touching hers, forcing her to look into his eyes.
"Zhou Yubai?" He repeated the name, his tone still calm, even with a hint of curiosity.
"Him..." Wei Zixian thought for a moment, then his tone became more certain.
"Zhizhi isn't exactly clean in private. It's just that the media can't capture it, but many people in the industry know about it. Don't like him."
He spoke so naturally, as if he were simply stating an objective fact.
Given his status and position, it wouldn't be difficult for him to obtain some so-called "top-secret internal files" or hear some rumors.
He quickly added.
"I'm perfectly clean," he said, his eyes fixed on her. "I only like you, sister."
"Look at me," he said, pressing her hand against his cheek, his voice lowering, "I'm fine. I'll always be good to you, only to you."
This statement is nonsensical and even has a childish, defiant tone.
This kind of person would become jealous over a trivial male celebrity she casually mentioned, and would be eager to prove that she is innocent and good.
But it was precisely this straightforward vying for favor and self-promotion that instantly dispelled the unease Bian Zhizhi felt due to his overly sharp attitude towards Chang Xiting.
All his scheming and manipulative schemes seemed to transform into such a straightforward and fervent desire in front of her.
Bian Zhizhi suddenly laughed. She raised her other hand, cupped his face, and gently stroked his slightly furrowed brow with her fingertips, smoothing away the unease that clouded his expression.
"Yes," she said, looking into his eyes, enunciating each word clearly, "I know."
"You're fine."
"I only like you."
Wei Zixian was stunned, as if he hadn't expected her to react this way.
Immediately, the feigned calm and the lingering gloom vanished like frost under the sun.
He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaled, and her scent instantly filled his lungs, soothing all his unease.
He didn't say anything, he just held her tightly.
Bian Zhizhi let him hold her, running her fingers through his soft black hair and gently combing it.
