The night was deeper.

The rain gradually subsided, but the temperature in the mountains continued to drop.

Bian Zhizhi's fever worsened, and she began to talk nonsense.

"Cold...so cold..."

Wei Zixian pulled her into his arms and warmed her with his body heat.

"Zhizhi, don't sleep, look at me."

"Mommy... Daddy..." she murmured, "Little tree hollow... children..."

"They're all waiting for you," Wei Zixian whispered in her ear. "You have to hold on."

"Wei Zixian..."

"I am here."

"Don't die..." she unconsciously clutched his collar, "Don't die..."

Wei Zixian's tears fell onto her face: "Fine, I won't die. You can't die either. We both have to live."

Voices and lights could be heard in the distance.

The rescue team has arrived.

Wei Zixian picked up Bian Zhizhi and walked towards the light source.

He strained his arm while rappelling downhill, and every step was excruciatingly painful, but he held on very tightly.

"Here! Here!" he shouted.

More than a dozen rescuers rushed over.

"Mr. Wei! Miss Bian! How are you?"

"She has a high fever, a sprained ankle, and multiple abrasions. She needs to be taken to the hospital immediately!" Wei Zixian quickly instructed.

The stretcher was brought over, and Wei Zixian carefully placed Bian Zhizhi on it, only to find that he couldn't let go of her hand.

She held his hand tightly.

"Mr. Wei, you're injured too, let's get on the stretcher together," the rescue team leader said.

Wei Zixian looked down and saw that the wound on his arm was deep enough to expose the bone, and blood was still flowing.

He didn't even know when he got injured.

"Save her first," he said.

The road down the mountain was muddy and difficult to travel. It took the rescue team nearly an hour to carry Bian Zhizhi to the side of the road, where the ambulance had been waiting for a long time.

Before getting on the bus, Wei Zixian insisted on watching Bian Zhizhi get on first.

The doctor performed a preliminary examination on her in the car, gave her an IV drip, and kept her warm.

Wei Zixian sat in another ambulance, watching her from across the vehicle.

He only allowed the doctor to treat his wounds after confirming that her vital signs were stable.

"The wound is deep and needs stitches. There's also a mild concussion and a strained muscle in your left arm," the doctor said. "Mr. Wei, you were too reckless. That kind of weather during a slide was practically suicidal."

Wei Zixian didn't speak, he just stared at the roof of the car.

Playing with fire?

If it could save her life, he would have given up on this life long ago.

The ambulance sped toward the hospital, its siren piercing the silence of the rainy night.

Wei Zixian turned his head and looked through the car window, seeing the sky beginning to lighten.

It's almost dawn.

She is safe.

This thought finally relaxed his nerves, which had been tense all night, and his consciousness gradually blurred.

Before he fell into a coma, his last thought was...

That's good, she's alright.

When Bian Zhizhi woke up, she was in a hospital ward.

Sunlight streamed in through the window, and the air smelled of disinfectant.

She blinked, adjusting to the light, and then saw Chang Xiting and Su Wan standing guard by the bedside.

"Zhizhi! You're awake!" Su Wan excitedly grasped her hand.

Chang Xiting also came closer, her eyes bloodshot: "How are you feeling? Does it still hurt?"

Bian Zhizhi wanted to speak, but her throat was so dry that she couldn't make a sound.

Chang Xiting immediately brought over some warm water and carefully fed her a few sips.

"What... happened to me?" she finally managed to speak, her voice hoarse.

"You got lost in the mountains, got caught in the rain and suffered from hypothermia, with a fever of 40 degrees Celsius, a sprained ankle, and multiple abrasions," Su Wan said, her eyes red-rimmed. "You were unconscious for a day and a night; it scared us to death."

Bian Zhizhi slowly recalled: the farm, the rainstorm, getting lost, falling down the hillside, and then... Wei Zixian.

"And him?" she asked.

Su Wan and Chang Xiting exchanged a glance.

"Wei Zixian is in the next ward," Chang Xiting said.

"He injured his arm and needed more than a dozen stitches, suffered a mild concussion, and some soft tissue contusions. But he's fine, and he woke up yesterday."

Bian Zhizhi breathed a sigh of relief.

"He saved you," Su Wan said softly. "He called in a helicopter and rappelled down in the torrential rain to find you. The rescue team said that if we had been half an hour later, the flash flood would have really come. That guy... risked his life."

Bian Zhizhi closed her eyes, and the image of Wei Zixian's face in the rainy night appeared in her mind.

His panic, his tears, his apology.

And then there's the line, "If we're going to die, we'll die together."

"Where are the children?" she asked.

"They've all returned home safely," Chang Hsi-ting said. "After we discovered you were missing that day, the farm immediately organized a search and rescue operation, but the rain was too heavy and progress was slow."

"I...I contacted Wei Zixian. I know he has the ability to mobilize resources, and..." He paused, "I know he will do anything to save you. I know what I'm doing is despicable..."

Bian Zhizhi looked at him and said, "Thank you, Xiting."

"What are you thanking me for?" Chang Xiting smiled bitterly. "I couldn't save you myself."

"Thank you for being so rational and making the right choice," Bian Zhizhi said. "If you hadn't contacted him, I might really have..."

She couldn't continue.

Chang Xiting held her hand: "It's all in the past. You're safe now, so take good care of yourself and recover."

Over the next few days, Bian Zhizhi received treatment at the hospital.

The high fever subsided, the swelling in my ankle gradually went down, and the abrasions began to scab over.

Chang Xiting came every day, bringing her books and flowers, and chatting with her.

Su Wan and Xiao Lu often came to tell her that everything was normal in the little tree hole and that the children cared about her.

But Bian Zhizhi always kept the person in the next ward in her heart.

She asked the nurse, who said that Mr. Wei was recovering well, but he was not very cooperative with the treatment and often pulled out the IV line, wanting to be discharged.

On the fifth day, Bian Zhizhi was able to get out of bed and walk around.

She used her crutches to slowly move to the door of the next ward.

The door was ajar, and she saw Wei Zixian leaning against the headboard, his left hand in a cast, and his right hand typing something on a laptop.

Lu Fangchi sat to the side, seemingly trying to persuade him.

"The doctor said I need to stay for at least three more days."

"Something came up at the company," Wei Zixian said without looking up.

"The company won't collapse without you for three days! You're a patient now!"

"I'm fine."

"Wei Zixian!"

Wei Zixian finally raised his head, his face still pale, but his eyes had regained their usual coldness: "Fang Chi, Xingyao is still making moves, I can't lie here."

"I've taken care of Xingyao's matter," Lu Fangchi said. "The scheme you set up last time is starting to close in. They're too busy dealing with their own problems to bother with Xiaoshudong anymore. Just focus on recovering."

Wei Zixian was silent for a few seconds: "How...is she?"

"Bian Zhizhi is recovering very well and will be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days."

Wei Zixian nodded and looked back at the computer screen.

She stood at the door for a while, but ultimately didn't go in and quietly left.

On the seventh day, the doctor informed Bian Zhizhi that she could be discharged from the hospital.

"You need to be careful with your ankle; try not to put weight on it. Remember to apply the ointment for the abrasion on time. Also," the doctor's gaze drifted towards Wei Zixian's ward, "during your hospitalization, Mr. Wei... asked about your condition several times."

Bian Zhizhi nodded: "I understand, thank you, doctor."

The discharge time is 10:00 AM.

Bian Zhizhi packed her things, and Su Wan and Xiao Lu came to pick her up.

"Chang Xiting said he'd wait for you at the hospital entrance," Su Wan said. "He has a wheelchair in his car, so it'll be easier for him to push you out."

"I can walk without a wheelchair," Bian Zhizhi said.

"It's better to be careful," Xiao Lu said, supporting her.

The three of them walked out of the ward and headed towards the elevator.

Bian Zhizhi paused as she passed Wei Zixian's ward.

The door was closed.

She recalled the conversation she overheard between him and Lu Fangchi yesterday.

Will he be discharged from the hospital today...?

The elevator has arrived.

Bian Zhizhi took one last look at the closed door and went inside.
