Time Travel: My Comfortable Life After Going to the Countryside
Chapter 153 Twins
When Liu Xiangyang returned home, the dining table in the main room was already set. Today, Leqi and Leyao were cooking. On the table were golden millet porridge, soft white steamed buns, a plate of finely sliced pickled cucumbers, and a small plate of fried salted fish that was golden brown on both sides. This dried fish was a rare item that Liu Xiangyang had brought back from outside.
Xue Bingbing was distributing chopsticks to everyone when she saw him return. She said, "Wash your hands, it's time to eat."
Luo Lan helped Le Yao bring out the last bowl of porridge from the kitchen. He Xiaoqin, Jiang Xiaowen, and Zuo Qingqing were already seated. Zuo Qingqing was holding a steamed bun and staring longingly at the dried salted fish.
"Xiangyang is back! We've been waiting for you!" Zuo Qingqing greeted.
Liu Xiangyang washed his hands and sat down. Le Qi served him a bowl of porridge, and Le Yao pushed the plate of salted fish toward him.
"The warehouse started distributing early corn seeds today," Leqi said during her meal. "The accounts and the actual stock match up, and the people who received the seeds have all put their fingerprints on them."
"Yes, it's good to be careful." Liu Xiangyang took a bite of his steamed bun. "During spring plowing, the seeds and fertilizers cannot be wrong."
"We know," Yue Yao nodded.
Xue Bingbing asked, "Xiangyang, was your patrol today alright?"
"It's nothing serious, just a reminder to be careful with fire." Liu Xiangyang picked up a piece of salted fish. "All the teams are starting to get moving. In a few days, around Grain Rain, we'll have to rush to start planting."
Roland ate his meal quietly, occasionally glancing at Liu Xiangyang before quickly looking down again. He Xiaoqin sipped her porridge, Jiang Xiaowen chewed slowly, and Zuo Qingqing ate the fastest, already reaching for her second steamed bun.
After dinner, He Xiaoqin, Jiang Xiaowen, and Zuo Qingqing took the initiative to clean up the dishes—they were the ones who served the emperor last night.
Xue Bingbing then took out the new notebooks and pens that Liu Xiangyang had bought last time and distributed them to everyone. "Studying will continue as usual tonight," she said. "No matter how busy spring plowing is, learning cannot be interrupted. It's always good to know more words and learn more principles."
In the afternoon, Liu Xiangyang went out for another walk, mainly to check on the centralized storage points of agricultural machinery in several production teams, reminding the commune members in charge to take good care of them. On his way back, he made a special trip to Zhang Tiejun's house.
Zhang Tiejun was repairing a hoe handle in the yard. When he saw him arrive, he invited him to sit down.
"Uncle Tiejun, spring plowing is about to begin on a large scale. We need to be extra vigilant about night shifts at the drying yards, warehouses, and farm machinery sheds." Liu Xiangyang sat down, took the cigarette Zhang Tiejun handed him, held it without lighting it, and said, "Especially for fire prevention and theft prevention, we can't afford any mishaps."
"We need to be more careful," Zhang Tiejun nodded. "I've already told Lixin to send more people out tonight. What about you? Any instructions, patrol officer?"
"Uncle Zhang, you're joking." Liu Xiangyang smiled. "I'm just cooperating with the team to ensure security. Also, it's best to keep track of everything, from the allocation of supplies to the accounting entries and exits, to avoid any mistakes in the midst of the chaos and to prevent anyone from finding fault with us."
Zhang Tiejun was a shrewd man. He glanced at him and asked, "What's Li Jianjun muttering about now?"
"No, not at all," Liu Xiangyang said casually. "It's just that if we do everything openly, with clear accounts and complete procedures, no one can say anything against it, which saves us trouble."
"Yes, that makes sense." Zhang Tiejun tapped his pipe. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
After dinner, the women chatted for a while. After taking a shower, the rustling sounds of tidying up in the house quickly subsided. Xue Bingbing and Luo Lan returned to the neighboring courtyard, while He Xiaoqin, Zuo Qingqing, and Jiang Xiaowen also returned to their own residences.
After Liu Xiangyang finished washing up, he pushed open the door to his bedroom. Only the table lamp was on, casting a dim and soft light. Le Qi and Le Yao were already there.
Le Yao was sitting on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), having taken off her outer clothes and wearing a light pink cotton shirt that made her skin look fair.
Her hair was loose and still a little damp at the ends. When she saw Liu Xiangyang come in, her eyes curved into a charming smile: "Brother Xiangyang, I've prepared the water for you. It's on the sink stand." She pointed to the corner of the wall.
Leqi stood by the kang cabinet, carefully folding the outer garments that the two of them had taken off. She was wearing a light blue shirt of the same style, and her movements were unhurried. Her profile looked calm under the light.
Hearing the noise, she turned around, nodded slightly to Liu Xiangyang, and didn't say anything, but her eyes held a familiar gentleness.
"Mmm." Liu Xiangyang responded, walked to the washstand and wiped his face with warm water. Behind him, he heard the soft sounds of Le Yao kicking off her shoes and climbing onto the kang (a heated brick bed), and her voice whispering to Le Qi, "Sister, here's the pillow for you."
By the time he dried his face and turned around, Leqi had already folded her clothes and gotten onto the kang (heated brick bed), sitting side by side with Leyao inside.
Both of them looked at him; they had the same appearance, but in the dim light, they exuded different auras.
Le Yao's gaze was direct and passionate, filled with undisguised expectation and intimacy, while Le Qi's gaze was deeper, like a tranquil lake with surging emotions hidden beneath.
Liu Xiangyang took off his coat and got onto the kang (a heated brick bed). As soon as he sat down, Le Yao came over, wrapped her arms around his, rested her head on his shoulder, and looked up at him: "Brother Xiangyang, are you tired today?" She had a faint, pleasant scent of soapberry mixed with the sweet and warm fragrance unique to young girls.
"It's alright." Liu Xiangyang raised his hand and touched her hair, which was soft.
Leqi didn't come over immediately. She first reached out and pulled the light cord, dimming the light and making the room more dim and private.
Then she moved closer and gently took Liu Xiangyang's other hand in hers. His fingers were slightly cool, but his grip was very firm.
"The warehouse accounts were checked again today, and there were no discrepancies," she said in a low voice, as if reporting something, or perhaps just finding something to say.
"I trust you to get things done." Liu Xiangyang took her slightly cool fingers in his hand and felt her gently squeeze them back.
Le Yao was unhappy about being ignored, so she leaned over and kissed Liu Xiangyang on the cheek, then giggled, "Sis, all you ever talk about is the warehouse."
A faint blush rose on Leqi's face, barely visible in the dim light. She didn't argue with her sister, but simply raised her other hand to gently straighten Liu Xiangyang's collar, which had been wrinkled by her earlier touch.
As night deepened, all was quiet outside the window. The fire on the kang (a heated brick bed) burned brightly, filling the air with warmth. In this private space, words became superfluous.
Le Yao's liveliness and initiative are like leaping flames. She likes to stick close to Liu Xiangyang, whisper in his ear, and express her closeness with tender kisses and dependent hugs.
Leqi, on the other hand, is more calm and reserved. Her responses are often subtle gestures: a deeper kiss, a tighter hug, or her fingertips gripping his arm tightly when she is aroused, as well as her eyes that are always looking at him as if she wants to etch him into her heart.
They are twin flowers, lotus blossoms on the same stem, sharing the deepest secrets and emotions. They can cooperate tacitly without words, and understand each other's hearts with just a glance.
Sweat gradually dampened her hair, and their breaths mingled together. Finally, like a satisfied kitten, Le Yao curled up beside Liu Xiangyang and quickly drifted off to sleep, a smile still on her lips.
Leqi was still awake. She lay on her side, her fingers unconsciously stroking Liu Xiangyang's arm. Her gaze fell on her sister's sweet sleeping face, then moved back to Liu Xiangyang's well-defined profile, her eyes incredibly soft.
Liu Xiangyang held her close, feeling her body tremble slightly as it relaxed and her breathing gradually even out. He lowered his head and placed a light kiss on her smooth forehead.
Leqi closed her eyes, snuggled deeper into his arms, and let out a barely audible, satisfied sigh.
