Liu Xiangyang moved closer to Gu Xiaoyu, staring into her eyes as he spoke: "I'm the kind of person who prefers to eat alone, so from now on, you can't let him touch you anymore."

"He never touched me before, and I don't know what happened, but on our wedding night... he... he couldn't get an erection." Gu Xiaoyu looked into Liu Xiangyang's eyes and said, "I will definitely stay by your side."

Liu Xiangyang knew that his actions at the wedding banquet might have actually succeeded. "Okay, you can go back now. Remember, take care of yourself."

Gu Xiaoyu went back, looking back every few steps.

When Liu Xiangyang returned home, everyone was waiting for him to have dinner.

"Why did the meeting take so long today? People have to eat eventually." Xue Bingbing saw him come back and took his clothes to hang them up.

"Hey, actually it has nothing to do with me, I don't have to go, but Uncle Zhang and the others insist that I participate and won't let me leave, so I can't help it. What are we going to eat for lunch? I'm starving."

"Sister Lan really put a lot of effort into the meal today; it's all hearty dishes, and we're reaping the benefits," Le Yao said, pointing to the table full of food.

Liu Xiangyang looked over and saw braised pork, glistening and trembling, piled high in a bowl. The glossy, dark brown color showed that it had been cooked to perfection.

Next to it was a large plate of fried ribbonfish segments, golden brown on both sides, with crispy skin, sprinkled with chopped green onions and dried chili threads.

There was also a pot of glistening cabbage stew with glass noodles, with thick slices of pork belly visible inside. The main dish was a basket of fluffy, steaming white steamed buns.

"My God," Liu Xiangyang sat down at the table, picked up his chopsticks and took a piece of meat, "Mmm, delicious. I think if you put your Sister Lan in ancient times, she would definitely be a great cook."

Roland came out of the kitchen carrying a large bowl of egg drop soup sprinkled with chopped cilantro. Her face was still flushed from the stove fire, and her eyes sparkled as she looked at him: "Try it! Bingbing asked me to bring out the meat, and the ribbonfish and vermicelli are the ones you brought back last time. I think there's still quite a bit left."

Xue Bingbing handed him chopsticks: "You've been busy all morning, and you even made people hold meetings on an empty stomach, so you deserve to eat something substantial."

Le Yao had already picked up a piece of ribbonfish, making a crunching sound as she bit into it, and said indistinctly, "Brother Xiangyang, this fish is fried so fragrantly, there's not a trace of fishiness!"

Liu Xiangyang picked up a piece of braised pork and put it in his mouth. The pork was stewed until tender and juicy, not greasy at all, with a savory aroma and a perfect touch of sweetness. He then tasted a piece of cabbage and glass noodles. The noodles had soaked up the broth and were smooth and delicious.

"Delicious," he said sincerely after taking a bite of rice. "Roland, your cooking skills have improved."

Roland smiled slightly, said nothing, but placed another piece of ribbonfish on his plate.

Zuo Qingqing scooped up a large spoonful of vermicelli and blew on it, saying, "These vermicelli are so chewy! Much better than the sweet potato vermicelli that the village distributed."

He Xiaoqin ate her steamed bun in small bites, along with some cabbage, and whispered, "The meat is so delicious."

Jiang Xiaowen sat next to Liu Xiangyang and also picked up a piece of meat for him, her face slightly flushed.

The meal was a lively affair, with the clinking of bowls and chopsticks filling the air.

After they finished clearing away the dishes, Liu Xiangyang said, "Spring plowing is about to begin. Everyone should be used to their new positions now. Do your jobs well and don't give anyone a reason to criticize you."

"I'm going to Uncle Lu's place tomorrow. Is there anything you want, or would you like to write a letter home?"

"Let's write the letter this afternoon and mail it out for us tomorrow," Xue Bingbing said.

"Okay, you guys discuss it first, I'm going to take a nap."

Upon hearing his words, everyone went back to their rooms to write letters.

The next day, before dawn, Liu Xiangyang woke up. Le Qi and Le Yao were fast asleep, their faces flushed and their breathing even. When Le Yao turned over, the blanket slipped down a bit.

He quietly got up, tucked them in, and dressed them.

In the kitchen, the stove burner, which had been sealed off the night before, was still warm, and water was warming in a large pot. He scooped water to wash up.

On the table were the things they had prepared last night: a bundle containing several boiled eggs and a few steamed buns.

There were several stamped letters next to it, and at the bottom was a military water bottle filled with cooled boiled water.

Arriving outside the village, he looked around, took out his motorcycle from his spatial storage, and rode off towards the county town.

When we arrived in the county town, it was not even 8 o'clock. We went to Lu Dajun's house first. Lu Dajun had already gone to work, and only his wife was there.

"Auntie, this is a wild boar that I just hunted a few days ago. I got you a leg of meat; give it to my brother and the others."

"Xiangyang, Dajun will scold me again when he gets back, wait a minute." Li Cuihua ran into the room and brought back a few packs of cigarettes. "These are left at home by your Uncle Lu, you can take them back and smoke them."

"Auntie, then I won't stand on ceremony. I'll head to my workplace to find Uncle Lu now." Liu Xiangyang took the cigarette and said goodbye.

When Liu Xiangyang arrived at the county public security bureau, the guard at the entrance recognized him, greeted him, and let him through. Lu Dajun was making tea in his office. When he saw Liu Xiangyang, he pointed to the wall.

A brand-new Forever brand 28-inch motorcycle was parked there, its steel rims gleaming and its paint shining.

"All the formalities are complete. Here's the receipt." Lu Dajun handed over a piece of paper stamped with a red seal.

Liu Xiangyang took the receipt, looked at the new car, and smiled sincerely, "Thank you, Uncle Lu, this car looks great."

"Yes, it's public property, so use it with care." Lu Dajun took a sip of tea. "Spring plowing is busy, but be mindful of your image. You have quite a few people there, so it's best to keep a low profile."

"I understand, Uncle Lu." Liu Xiangyang knew that he was referring to the fact that there were many female educated youths in his family.

After leaving the police station, he went to the post office first. The person at the counter was a middle-aged woman wearing arm sleeves. He handed her the letters.

"Wow, sending so many letters by yourself, young man, you've got good interpersonal skills?" the woman asked casually as she stamped the mail.

"Yes, these are letters from several educated youth comrades to let their families know they are safe. I just helped them mail them," Liu Xiangyang replied naturally.

After mailing the letter, he pushed his new cart to the supply and marketing cooperative. There weren't many people there yet.

He first went to the fabric counter and ordered enough of each of the following: dark blue khaki fabric, light gray polyester, and floral cotton fabric, enough to make two sets of clothes.

As the saleswoman pulled the fabric, she couldn't help but glance at him a few more times; this young man was buying fabric as if it were free.

"These are all for my comrades. I'm a grown man, how could I need so much fabric?" Liu Xiangyang explained, seeing her expression.

Next, he went to the grocery counter. He bought five jin of white sugar, three jin of brown sugar, two jin of fruit hard candy, and a large bag each of sesame cakes and peach crisps. Seeing that there were expensive milk candies that didn't require coupons, he also bought a jin of those.

At the daily necessities counter, soaps, toothpaste, and face cream were sold by the dozen.

What surprised him most was that there were newly arrived "Lighthouse" brand soap boxes and enamel basins with magpie patterns, and he asked for two of each.
