A sudden chill swept over her skin, and Chen Jie gasped in surprise. But the next second, warm lips covered hers, conveying a silent message through the thin fabric.

A warm touch and a slight shiver instantly spread through her spine. She couldn't help but tilt her head back, the back of her head gently hitting the door panel, but she felt no pain. Only a surging wave rose from her chest, engulfing her limbs and bones.

"Go...go inside..." She was so weak that she could barely stand and could only cling to his shoulders, whispering weakly.

Liu Xiangyang picked her up and carried her into the inner bedroom, where the two of them sank into the soft bed.

He didn't even turn on the lights, but relied solely on the faint light from the distant windows to eagerly approach each other.

The buttons came undone, and the subtle sound of fabric rubbing together was especially clear in the darkness, mingling with the rising and falling of breaths.

When the last bit of distance disappeared and their two warm bodies were pressed tightly together, they both sighed softly in unison.

Liu Xiangyang's hand gently stroked her trembling waist, bringing a sense of warmth.

"Godmother..." he whispered in her ear, a barely perceptible smile and a deep-seated flutter in his voice, "Did you miss me?"

Chen Jie's response was to snuggle closer, using actions instead of words.

Her eyes were hazy, and her face was flushed. The capable demeanor of the captain during the day had quietly faded, revealing her soft inner self. Liu Xiangyang took a deep breath and could no longer restrain himself, so he hugged her tightly in his arms.

"Mmm..." Chen Jie's voice disappeared into their close embrace, turning into intermittent murmurs. Her fingertips curled slightly, followed by an even deeper resonance in her chest.

He seemed to want to become a part of her life; the wooden bed swayed gently, making a soothing and rhythmic soft sound, like the whisper of the night.

Her hair lay scattered on the pillow, rising and falling only with his pull, like a boat gently swaying on a calm sea, clinging tightly to his strong arms to meet the ebb and flow of her heart.

In the dim light, the silhouettes of the two were faintly intertwined, exuding warmth and the air was filled with a cozy atmosphere, accompanied by soft breathing.

Liu Xiangyang took a deep breath, unable to restrain himself any longer, and pulled her into a tight embrace.

Liu Xiangyang chuckled softly, a gentle vibration coming from his chest. He turned to the side, wrapping his arms around her more securely, pulled the blanket over both of their shoulders, and placed a light kiss on her forehead.

"Happy Lantern Festival, Godmother!" he asked, his voice tinged with a contented languor.

Chen Jie mumbled "Happy Lantern Festival" in her sleep before falling asleep.

Just as dawn was breaking, Chen Jie was awakened by the noise beside her. She groggily turned over and reached out her arm, but found nothing. Opening her eyes, she saw Liu Xiangyang already dressed and sitting on the edge of the bed putting on his shoes.

"What time is it? So early..." Her voice was heavy with sleepiness as she snuggled deeper into the warm blankets.

"It's still early, you can sleep a little longer." Liu Xiangyang tied his shoelaces, turned around and kissed her on the forehead. "I've estimated the time, we need to go to the station. Qiqi and Yaoyao's train should be arriving soon."

Chen Jie's sleepiness vanished instantly. She propped herself up, her silk robe slipping down her shoulder, revealing a few marks. She rubbed her eyes: "I'll go with you."

Liu Xiangyang took her hand, leaned down and whispered, "Don't go today."

Chen Jie's eyes flickered slightly, and she immediately understood his concerns. Le Qi and Le Yao had just experienced a family upheaval, and their emotions were extremely fragile and sensitive. Her sudden appearance as an "outsider" to pick them up at the station with Liu Xiangyang might bring them additional pressure, or even make them feel uneasy because of their background.

She nodded: "I understand. You go ahead and comfort them. I'll go with you to the station and come back early after get off work."

"I'm sorry you had to go through that." Liu Xiangyang kissed her forehead.

"What are you saying?" Chen Jie pushed him. "Hurry up and go, don't be late."

By the time the two arrived at the train station, it was already broad daylight. The platform was crowded, and the air was filled with a mixture of coal smoke, steam, and the cacophony of voices. The announcements were playing, listing the arriving trains. Liu Xiangyang listened carefully and squeezed his way to the corresponding platform.

The train, accompanied by a tremendous roar and white steam, slowly glided into the platform. The doors opened, and the crowd surged out like a flood.

Liu Xiangyang was tall, and his gaze swept over the throng of people getting off the bus. He quickly spotted two familiar figures among them – Le Qi and Le Yao.

The two sisters were both wearing thick cotton-padded coats and scarves, each carrying a rather large travel bag. They were standing on tiptoe, looking around. Their faces had lost their usual radiance, showing only the numbness of a long journey and a bottomless sorrow.

Leqi pursed her lips tightly, staring blankly ahead, carrying two heavy bags in her hands, her knuckles white from gripping them so tightly, as if they were the only tangible things she could hold onto.

Le Yao followed behind her sister, her eyes red and swollen. She would occasionally raise her hand to wipe the corner of her eye, looking bewildered, like a fledgling bird that had been frightened and could not find its nest.

"Qiqi! Yaoyao!" Liu Xiangyang raised his arm and called out.

The two sisters looked up at the same time. When Leqi saw him, a flicker of emotion flashed in her empty eyes. She blinked hard, forcing back the tears that welled up, and whispered, "Brother Xiangyang."

Le Yao, however, was different. The moment she saw Liu Xiangyang, tears welled up instantly, and she burst into tears. Dragging her luggage, she stumbled over, grabbed his arm, buried her face in his embrace, and cried uncontrollably, sobbing, "Brother Xiangyang, Dad's gone, our home's gone, what are we going to do?"

Liu Xiangyang was heartbroken. He took the heavy bag from Le Qi's hand with one hand and hugged Le Yao, who was crying so hard she could barely stand, with the other, and said in a deep voice, "Don't be afraid, I'm here. Come with me first."

He didn't ask any questions, nor did he immediately offer empty words of comfort. Instead, he provided them with a temporary foothold through his strong arms and simple actions. Leqi silently followed on his other side, reaching out to help her sister with the small bag, but Liu Xiangyang took it from her as well.

After exiting the station, Liu Xiangyang tied all his luggage to his bicycle, and the three of them pushed the bikes and walked towards Chen Jie's house.

When they arrived at Chen Jie's house, Liu Xiangyang stopped and said to the two sisters, "This is Captain Chen Jie's house. She's the one who helped you get your tickets before. She's a very kind person. Knowing that you were arriving today, she specially lent us her house to stay temporarily. You can go in and rest for a while and wash your faces."

Upon hearing "Captain Chen," Le Qi's eyes flickered with gratitude, but more so with exhaustion. She nodded, while Le Yao showed little reaction, simply leaning against Liu Xiangyang with dependence.

Once inside, the warm and clean environment helped the two sisters relax a little.

Liu Xiangyang poured them hot water and wrung out hot towels. The two women took the towels and wiped their faces, looking at him excitedly.

Seeing that they had calmed down a bit, Liu Xiangyang said, "Don't stay cooped up inside. The Songhua River in Harbin in winter is quite a sight. I'll take you out to relax and go ice skating."
