Fu Hua sat in the passenger seat, neither responding nor speaking.

His expression was cold, and he stared out the window, motionless.

Xie Ci parked the car and turned to look at her.

"Huahua".

He softened his voice, "I'm angry. Very angry."

Fu Hua didn't move.

"You're in a relationship."

Xie Ci asked helplessly, "Do you even know?"

Fu Hua remained silent.

But she has a lot of inner monologues.

Thinking to myself, of course I know.

Didn't I apologize to you?

Xie Ci looked at her stubborn profile.

She paused, then added, "Don't you understand men's minds? There's no such thing as pure friendship. Can't you tell he's interested in you?"

Fu Hua finally turned her head and glared at him.

Her heart was churning violently.

I thought to myself: Of course I know he's interested in me.

He not only likes me, he just confessed his feelings.

You're a deputy division commander, and you can't even control your emotions?

Be careful, or I might dump you and have plenty of other suitors chasing after me.

I just apologized to you, how dare you not forgive me?

Then there's no need to forgive; let's not forgive each other.

She looked away and continued gazing out the window.

Xie Ci reached out to take her hand.

Fu Hua flung her away.

Don't touch me.

Xie Ci's hand froze in mid-air before slowly retracting.

"sorry."

His voice softened, his gaze tender: "I just saw him hugging you, and I couldn't control my emotions. Huahua, don't be angry, okay?"

Fu Hua didn't say anything, but she was full of energy.

"I will definitely drive slower in the future."

Xie Ci looked at her. "You're worried about me, aren't you?"

Fu Hua sneered inwardly.

I'm afraid you'll kill me.

I haven't lived enough yet.

I waited a long time for a response to my thank-you note, but received none.

"Huahua,"

He leaned forward, "Say something, don't do this."

Fu Hua finally spoke, uttering only two words.

"Open the door."

I want to get off the bus.

Xie Ci was stunned.

"no."

Xie Ci was extremely worried and of course wouldn't abandon her halfway.

"I'll take you home first. We can talk about it when we get home."

Fu Hua was too lazy to argue with him anymore, so she leaned back in her chair and shut her mouth.

Xie Ci started the car, and this time he drove steadily, as slowly as a snail.

A 40-minute drive took an hour and a half.

The car was parked downstairs at her house.

Fu Hua pushed open the car door, got out, and walked quickly towards the stairwell.

Xie Ci quickly turned off the engine, locked the car, and chased after them.

Fu Hua walked quickly ahead, without stopping.

Xie Ci followed behind, trying to take her hand, but was ruthlessly shaken off.

I want to go ahead, but I don't dare.

We've arrived at the door.

Fu Hua took out her key, opened the door, went inside, and slammed the door shut...

Xie Ci was looking down and didn't notice, mainly because he hadn't expected it.

Fu Hua shut him out.

The door slammed heavily into his face.

Xie Ci grunted, took a step back, and raised his hand to cover his nose.

Blood was seeping from between his fingers.

Fu Hua paused for a moment after hearing the muffled groan from inside the door.

But she didn't open the door.

The hallway was quiet for a few seconds.

An old woman carrying a shopping basket slowly climbed the stairs.

Seeing Xie Ci standing there covering his nose, with blood trickling from between his fingers, I was startled.

Or was he a member of the People's Liberation Army?

"Oh dear, young man, what happened to you?"

Xie Ci shook his head and didn't say anything.

The old lady looked at him, then at the tightly closed door, as if she understood something, and smiled knowingly.

People's Liberation Army soldiers are human too; they also argue and get angry with their wives.

They might also be kicked out of their homes.

Previously, the two always seemed so affectionate and loving.

It turns out that every family has its own troubles.

"Come, come to my house and let me take care of this."

She pulled Xie Ci upstairs.

"My son is a doctor, and we have medicine at home."

"Also, let me tell you, it's normal for couples to argue."

My husband and I argued much more fiercely back then than you guys.

The pots and pans were all smashed and broken, but they were put back together after a while. Life goes on, so we just kept using them... That's how we'll get through this shabby life.

The old lady pulled him away as he was about to give his thanks.

Half an hour later, Xie Ci came out of the old lady's house.

Two wads of toilet paper were stuffed up his nose.

They were all white, like two little chimneys, which was a bit funny.

He stood at Fu Hua's door for a while.

He raised his hand, then lowered it again.

It was quiet inside the door; there wasn't a sound.

He looked down at his two white shadows and sighed.

If she saw him looking so pitiful, wouldn't she feel sorry for him?

He clenched the key in his pocket as he thanked her.

It was placed in the keyhole, then retracted.

Thinking of Fu Hua's angry expression, he simply didn't have the courage to open the door and go in.

She closed the door because she didn't want him to come in.

If he goes in by himself, will she be even angrier?

Fu Hua pressed her ear against the door and listened for a long time, but there was no sound outside.

gone?

She straightened up, and the anger in her heart surged up again.

Okay, good that you're gone.

She turned and went inside, plunging into the space.

I opened the lab bench, laid out the data, and forced myself to look at it.

At first, all I could think of was Xie Ci's cold face and the expression on her face when she shook off his hand.

She took a deep breath and forced herself to focus on the numbers.

One line, two lines, three lines.

Gradually, those numbers pulled her in.

She checked each item one by one, calculating each one, completely losing track of time.

After she finished calculating the last piece of data, she stretched and then remembered to check the time.

It was the afternoon of the second day.

I didn't sleep all night, but I'm not sleepy.

I'm just hungry.

My stomach started rumbling; it felt so empty and uncomfortable.

She came out of the space, opened the refrigerator and took a look; it was empty.

There wasn't even a single vegetable leaf.

I thanked her for not letting her eat leftovers, and most of the time I would give her ready-made food.

Summer is over, and I won't let her stock up on ice cream.

He also said, "Eating cold food all the time is bad for girls; they should be moderate."

Sometimes, thank-you speeches really sound like an old lady, rambling on and on.

I don't know what he's doing.

Have you realized your mistake?

Regardless of who suffers the loss, we cannot let ourselves go hungry.

She drank a cup of spring water to quench her hunger, then grabbed her bag and prepared to go downstairs to buy groceries.

Don't even mention arguing, breaking up is nothing to be ashamed of.

Improper treatment can harm your own body.

The door opened.

She froze on the spot.

There was a person standing at the door.

The military uniform was the same one from yesterday, just a little wrinkled.

The man stood ramrod straight, like a sentry, his eyes fixed on her without moving.

What is that?

Fu Hua was so frightened that she took a step back.

"Thank you, what are you doing?"

Her voice rose, "Who are you trying to scare to death?"

Xie Ci looked at her; there were dark circles under her eyes, and her lips were dry and chapped.

"Huahua,"

His voice was hoarse and low, "You've finally opened the door."

Fu Hua's anger flared up again.

Are you hungry?

Xie Ci asked, her voice incredibly soft, "What do you want to eat? I'll go buy it."

Fu Hua remembered that she was still angry.

With a cold expression, she uttered two words.

I'm full.

After saying that, he slammed the door shut.

I don't want to see this face.

This time, Xie Ci reacted quickly, sticking his arm in to block the door frame.

The door caught his arm, he groaned, and sweat poured down his forehead.

Fu Hua looked bewildered and panicked.
