Hong Kong variety show: The mastermind behind the scenes is emerging.
Chapter 710 Lin Liangshui
Monday, March 6th.
Early in the morning, a sleek, understated black Mercedes-Benz slowly pulled up in front of the kindergarten. Tian Yangyi got out of the passenger seat first, then quickly went around to the back seat and skillfully opened the car door for Xiao Luqian.
"Young Master, we've arrived."
"Thank you, Uncle Yi!" Lu Qian jumped out of the car, waved happily at him, then slung his backpack over his shoulder and skipped towards the school gate.
The kindergarten yard wasn't big, but it was very sunny. The sycamore trees along the edge of the play area had already sprouted tender buds, which shimmered with a soft, fuzzy green in the morning light.
Several girls who arrived early were squatting by the sandpit, piling something up with plastic shovels, while several boys were chasing a ball around on the other side.
Lu Qian walked into the classroom and had just put his schoolbag down when he heard a clear voice call out from behind him: "Brother Qian!"
He turned around and saw Zhao Jiajia running in from the classroom door, her ponytail swinging back and forth, and a half-finished box of strawberry milk clutched in her hand.
She ran up to Lu Qian and stopped, looking up at him with her eyes crinkling into crescent moons: "Good morning!"
"Good morning, Jiajia." Lu Qian smiled.
Jiajia sat down in the empty seat next to him, placed the carton of milk on the corner of the desk, and then chattered around him happily like a little sparrow, as if she wanted to make up for all the things she hadn't been able to say over the weekend.
"Brother Qian, thank you for the JF2. I played Pokémon Diamond for ages this weekend, and now my Piplup has been upgraded to Empoleon..."
Pokémon Pearl and Diamond are the fourth generation of Pokémon games released by Golden Harvest. Thanks to the leap in hardware performance of the launch platform JF2, Pearl achieved a landmark breakthrough in terms of graphics quality.
Not only did it introduce 3D texture technology for the first time, making the large map more three-dimensional, but the storyline and world view were also placed on a Western mythological system similar to Greek mythology, making the overall art style more appealing.
What excites players worldwide even more is that Pokémon Pearl and Diamond is the first game in the series' history to be connected to DragonNet, allowing players around the world to break through geographical limitations and achieve seamless online battles and interactive communication for the first time.
"Brother Qian, let's add each other as friends after school, then we can exchange Pokémon eggs."
"Um," Lu Qian scratched his head, "Well... I haven't actually started playing Pokémon yet."
Hearing this, Jiajia blinked and asked curiously, "What did you play, Brother Qian?"
"..." Faced with this question, Lu Qian's expression stiffened for a moment.
As the heir of Golden Harvest, Lu Qian had already obtained the JF2 and game cartridges half a month ago.
At first, he played it fairly normally – Super Mario 64.
However, just as he was about to switch games after finishing the game last weekend, Qiu Di returned to Hong Kong Island from Hollywood and insisted on playing the game with him.
After looking around for a while, Lu Qian finally pointed to the Pokémon Pearl set and said, "I want to play this!"
"Pokémon?" Qiu Di glanced at the cover, pursed her lips, then pulled out another box from the bottom and shoved it into his hand. "What's the point of that? If you're going to play, play something more exciting. Come on, let's play this."
Lu Qian looked down and saw a gloomy ancient castle with four large, dark red characters on it: Resident Evil.
He hesitated for a moment, but Qiu Di patted her chest and assured him, "What are you afraid of? It's just a game, and your aunt will be with you!"
So... Lu Qian believed it.
That night, he did experience the "excitement" that Aunt Qiudi had mentioned—from the moment the first zombie turned its head, he was so frightened that he clung tightly to Qiudi's arm, and when the dog rushed in through the window, he shrank into Qiudi's arms.
He finally made it to the middle of the night, and when he finally lay back in his bed, all he could think about after turning off the light was that gloomy mansion and that long corridor.
He tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and finally, clutching his little pillow, he squeezed back into the doghouse with Coke and Sprite. When Ruan Mei found him in the doghouse the next day, he was still fast asleep, his arms around Coke's neck.
"It's all Aunt Qiudi's fault..."
Lu Qian silently grumbled to himself, then casually said, "I'm playing Resident Evil."
"So... was it fun?" Jiajia blinked and asked again.
"It's...it's pretty good." Lu Qian nodded, forcing himself to keep his tone from sounding off. "The graphics are exquisite, and the game is very suspenseful."
Jiajia gave an "Oh," seemingly uninterested, and turned to drink her strawberry milk. Lu Qian breathed a sigh of relief and was about to take his textbook out of his bag.
Good morning, Ah-Qian! Ah—
A weary voice came from next door.
Looking in the direction of the sound, Lin Liangshui was seen swaying over, looking like he hadn't woken up yet. He put his schoolbag on the table, slumped into the chair, rested his chin on the edge of the desk, and squinted his eyes, like a sloth that hadn't fully woken up from hibernation.
Lin Liangshui is a new student who just transferred here this semester. She sits next to Lu Qian. Her hair is always messy. Her biggest hobby is recommending all kinds of the latest video games and action comic books to the students around her.
"Liang Shui, didn't you sleep well last night?" Lu Qian asked, looking at his listless appearance.
"Don't even mention it..." Lin Liangshui yawned, his voice muffled by the tabletop. "On Saturday, my dad took me to Jiahe Plaza and bought a JF2 console and that new Super Mario 64. I only meant to play for a little while, but before I knew it, it was dawn..."
He rubbed his sleepy eyes as he spoke: "This morning at seven o'clock, my mom got up to make breakfast and found the light in my bedroom still on. She was so angry she almost confiscated it."
Lu Qian nodded in agreement: "Then you need to take care of yourself and get some rest."
"Hey, Ah Qian, did you buy a JF2?" Lin Liangshui suddenly perked up, sat up straight, and started recommending it. "The lines at Jiahe Plaza were like it was New Year's Day on Saturday! Did you go?"
"I didn't go, but the housekeeper bought it for me," Lu Qian paused for a moment and answered vaguely.
Currently, no one in the kindergarten except Jiajia knows that his father is Lu Chen. Although the teachers are aware of the situation, they have been warned never to bring it up.
"So you must have played it too?" Lin Liangshui pressed. "What game did you play?"
Upon hearing this, Lu Qian's mind involuntarily flashed back to the "tragic" scene of him crying while hugging his dog late at night on the weekend.
However, as a boy, Lu Qian naturally had a strong sense of self-esteem and would never admit to his best friend that he had almost wet his pants because of a game. So, he tried his best to imitate his father's usual composed and calm demeanor, and casually flicked the corner of his clothes:
"Only little kids play Mario, I play Resident Evil. Men like us in kindergarten should play something really challenging."
Lin Liangshui paused for a moment upon hearing this, a hint of hesitation on his face: "Resident Evil... I heard from my brother that it's a horror game, right? Is it really that scary?"
"It's not scary at all," Lu Qian patted his chest and said firmly, "I play alone every weekend night, and I wasn't scared at all."
Lin Liangshui blinked, looking at Lu Qian's calm and composed face, and any hesitation in her heart vanished: "Damn! That's so cool! I'm going to ask my dad to take me to buy one to play after school today!"
"Go ahead, go ahead," Little Lu Qian waved his hand, looking like a wise old man, "Once you buy it and play with it yourself, you'll know I was right."
Despite saying that, Lu Qian was secretly praying that he wouldn't scare the kid into something bad.
