"Bang!"

Liu Haizhong didn't even see how Chen Feng made his move; he only felt a chill on his neck, followed by excruciating pain. He instinctively covered his neck, and warm blood gushed from between his fingers, no matter how hard he tried to stop it.

"Ugh...ugh..." He tried to shout, but his throat had been cut, and he could only let out a weak, hissing sound. His body fell backward and hit the ground with a thud, his eyes wide open, staring intently at Chen Feng. Blood spread across the ground, quickly staining a large area red.

From outside the window came the second aunt's heart-wrenching cries: "His father—!"

But that voice was quickly drowned out by another—"Chen Feng! I'll fight you to the death!"

Liu Guangfu burst from the corner, a kitchen knife in his hand, his eyes bloodshot. He saw his father lying in a pool of blood, and Chen Feng standing there, the knife still dripping blood. His mind went blank; fear and reason vanished. All he wanted now was to kill Chen Feng, to avenge his brother Liu Guangtian, and to avenge his father.

Chen Feng dodged Liu Guangfu's mad dog-like slashes by the side and slashed at his arm with his own hand. But Liu Guangfu had gone mad and didn't care about being injured. Even with a cut from the knife, he didn't back down and instead pounced even more fiercely.

At the same time, a man rushed in from outside—it was Liu Guangqi, Liu Haizhong's eldest son who worked away from home. He had just returned home today and witnessed this tragedy. He was holding a thick wooden stick, and his eyes immediately turned red when he saw the scene inside the house.

"You bastard!" Liu Guangqi roared and smashed a stick into the back of Chen Feng's head.

Hearing the sound of the wind, Chen Feng ducked to avoid it. The wooden stick hit the wall with a "crack," and a large piece of plaster fell off the wall.

The courtyard outside was in complete chaos. The commotion of Yan Bugui's gruesome death in the front yard, and Liu Haizhong's screams, had already alerted the survivors inside. A dozen or so men, armed with kitchen knives, sticks, and shovels, surged from the front yard to the middle yard, and then from the middle yard to the back yard.

"Chen Feng is in the backyard!"

"Quick! Don't let him get away!"

"Kill him! Avenge our dead neighbors!"

Shouts, footsteps, and the sounds of things colliding mingled together, making it particularly jarring in the dead of night.

Chen Feng's heart sank. He hadn't expected so many people to be in the courtyard, and he certainly hadn't expected them to dare to rush in with weapons. It seemed things wouldn't end well tonight.

Liu Guangfu continued his relentless charge, while Liu Guangqi brandished his stick, pressing closer and closer. Chen Feng was cornered against the wall, with nowhere to retreat.

Just as a stick was about to hit him on the head, Chen Feng suddenly pulled out a pistol from his pocket.

"Bang!"

The deafening gunshots echoed through the small room. Liu Guangqi's stick clattered to the ground as he looked down at his chest—a bloody hole was gushing blood.

"You..." He pointed at Chen Feng, wanting to say something, but his body swayed and he collapsed to the ground.

"Brother—!" Liu Guangfu went even crazier when he saw his brother shot, and charged again with his knife.

Chen Feng had no time to think and fired another shot.

"Bang!"

The bullet struck Liu Guangfu's right arm, and the kitchen knife flew out of his hand, clattering to the ground. Liu Guangfu cried out in pain, clutching his wound with his left hand, blood gushing from between his fingers, but he gritted his teeth and tried to rush forward again.

Chen Feng didn't give him a chance. He strode forward and kicked Liu Guangfu in the stomach, knocking him to the ground. Then he turned and rushed towards the window—the back window through which Liu Haizhong had just climbed out.

The footsteps outside grew closer, and voices could be heard: "At Liu Haizhong's house! Hurry!"

Chen Feng leaped out of the window. He rolled upon landing to dissipate the impact, then got up and ran.

The backyard was small, with only a few rooms and a latrine. The wall was lower than the front yard, but still more than a meter high. Chen Feng rushed to the wall and climbed up using both hands and feet.

Just as he was halfway up the hill, the backyard door was slammed open with a bang. A dozen or so people rushed in, carrying weapons. The leaders were several middle-aged men from the yard, all armed with shovels, sticks, and the like.

"There he is! He's trying to climb over the wall!"

"Don't let him get away!"

"Kill him!"

Chen Feng glanced back and saw a dark mass of people rushing towards him, their weapons gleaming coldly in the moonlight. He quickened his pace and finally climbed onto the top of the wall.

"Bang!"

A brick slammed against the wall, nearly hitting him on the head. Chen Feng dodged to the side, simultaneously pulling out a pistol from his pocket and pulling the trigger at the few people charging at the front.

"Bang! Bang!"

Two gunshots rang out, and the two men at the front fell to the ground, one hit in the thigh and the other in the shoulder, both screaming in pain.

The gunshots and screams made the people behind pause for a moment, but soon, even more frantic shouts rang out:

"He has a gun!"

"What are you afraid of! He's all alone!"

"Charge! Avenge our dead neighbors!"

The crowd surged forward again, like a tide. Chen Feng knew he couldn't delay any longer. He flipped over and jumped off the wall, stumbling and nearly falling upon landing. He steadied himself and ran into the depths of the alley without looking back.

The sound of someone scaling the wall came from behind, followed by shouts: "Chase him! Don't let him get away!"

Chen Feng ran incredibly fast, like a startled rabbit, weaving left and right through the dark alleyways. He knew the area very well, knowing which alley led to which street and where to hide.

He ran through two alleys, turned into a dead end, then climbed over a low wall and entered another courtyard. The courtyard was piled with clutter. He found a corner, squatted down, held his breath, and listened to the sounds outside.

The sounds of the pursuers grew louder and louder. They searched and shouted in the alley, but no one thought to climb over the wall to check.

Chen Feng was panting heavily, his heart pounding. What he had just witnessed was too dangerous; he had almost been surrounded. If he had been surrounded, even with a gun, he wouldn't have escaped death—a dozen people, a dozen weapons, each one could drown him with a single spit.

He touched the gun behind his waist. There were four bullets left in the magazine, and two spare magazines, but he dared not use more. The gunshot would be too loud and attract the police.

He needs to leave here as soon as possible and find a safe place to hide.

But the courtyard house... must be in complete chaos right now. Liu Haizhong is dead, Liu Guangqi is probably dead too, Liu Guangfu is injured, and Yan Bugui is dead as well. Two more people died and one was seriously injured overnight.

Those people in the compound must be filled with both fear and hatred now. They're afraid Chen Feng will come back, and they hate him for killing so many people. They might call the police, or they might organize more people to search for him.

Chen Feng knew he couldn't go back to the restaurant. Although it was secluded, the owner was already suspicious. Besides, the police would definitely be conducting a city-wide search, and a place like that would be found sooner or later.

He needed a new hiding place, a place no one would expect.

He remembered the place Old Sun had mentioned—the mass grave in the west of the city, that grove of trees. No one usually went there, and… Xiaoyu might have been there.

Yes, that's where we'll go. We'll look for clues about Xiaoyu, and hide at the same time.

Chen Feng made up his mind to wait until it was completely quiet outside before quietly leaving the courtyard. He took a detour along the path and headed west of the city.

The courtyard was now in complete chaos.

In the front yard, Yan Bugui's body still lay in a pool of blood, a deep gash on his neck, his eyes wide open. The third aunt was weeping uncontrollably over the body, while Yan Jiefang stood to the side, his face deathly pale and his whole body trembling.

At the Intermediate People's Court, a group of people gathered in front of Liu Haizhong's house. Inside, Liu Haizhong lay in a pool of blood, already dead. Liu Guangqi, with a gaping hole in his chest, was also dead. Liu Guangfu clutched the wound on his right arm, blood still seeping out, but he paid no heed to the pain, staring blankly at the bodies of his father and brother.

The second aunt fainted and was carried to bed. Several women were taking care of her, pinching her philtrum and feeding her water.

Everyone else in the courtyard was armed and gathered in the middle courtyard, their faces filled with fear and anger.

"That bastard Chen Feng! He killed two more!"

"Old Liu... Old Liu died such a tragic death..."

"Guangqi just got back... and then..."

"Call the police! We have to call the police!" someone shouted. "If we don't call the police, we'll all die!"

"Yes! Call the police! Let the officers arrest him!"

But Yi Zhonghai is dead, the deaf old woman is dead, Liu Haizhong is dead, and now there's no one in charge of the courtyard. Everyone looks at each other, not knowing what to do.

Finally, Yan Jiefang stepped forward. He wiped away his tears and said in a hoarse voice, "I'll go call the police."

"Liberation..." The three women grabbed him.

"Mom, we have to call the police," Yan Jiefang said. "If we don't, we'll be next to die. Chen Feng has gone mad; he won't let any of us go."

The three women cried as they let go of his hand. Yan Jiefang turned and ran out of the courtyard gate, heading towards the police station.

The remaining people looked at each other, too afraid to go back inside. They gathered in the courtyard, lit torches, grabbed their weapons, and encouraged each other.

"Tonight...tonight none of us will sleep," a middle-aged man said. "Let's all gather together and take turns keeping watch. If Chen Feng dares to come again, we'll fight him to the death!"

"Yes! Let's give it our all!"

But as they spoke, their hands trembled. They knew that if Chen Feng really came, they wouldn't even be enough for him to kill.

In the backyard, Liu Guangfu suddenly stood up and walked into the yard. His right arm was still bleeding, but he seemed to feel no pain. He walked to the bodies of his father and brother and knelt down.

"Dad, brother," he whispered, "I will avenge you. Chen Feng... I will kill him."

Then he stood up, turned around, and went back into the house. After a while, he came out with a kitchen knife, which was covered in blood—it was unclear whether it was his own blood or Chen Feng's blood.

"Guangfu, you..." someone tried to persuade him.

"Leave me alone," Liu Guangfu said. "I'll keep watch tonight. If Chen Feng dares to come, I'll take him down with me."

No one tried to persuade them anymore. Everyone fell silent.

The night was still very deep.

Torches flickered in the courtyard, illuminating faces filled with fear, anger, and despair.

This courtyard has been turned into a real cemetery.

Meanwhile, Chen Feng was searching for clues about his sister in the mass grave in the west of the city.

The blood debt has not yet been repaid.

The revenge continues.
