Pinggang Port, Qingdao City.

The night was as dark as ink, dyeing the sea and sky a somber deep blue. The salty sea breeze, carrying the chill of early winter, whipped up layers of white waves that crashed against the reinforced concrete embankment, producing a monotonous yet powerful splashing sound that was particularly clear in the quiet night.

Most of the port was asleep, with only a few scattered navigation lights flickering lonely in the darkness, cutting the shimmering waves into fragmented golden pieces. Only Pier No. 3 was brightly lit, its searchlight beams piercing the night like swords, starkly contrasting with the surrounding stillness.

A medium-sized cargo ship, the "Far Dome," sounded its deep, hoarse whistle, like the murmur of a sleeping beast, preparing to set sail quietly in the dead of night. The crew laboriously untied the thick mooring lines from the bollards, and the heavy anchor winch creaked and groaned, its tension palpable in the stillness.

Several port workers who had been temporarily called in were wrapped in thick cotton coats and huddled in a sheltered corner, rubbing their hands together and breathing out white breath while muttering complaints.

"What the hell, why the rush? It'll be dawn in two more hours. According to regulations, it's much more convenient to depart during the day..." The older worker muttered, glancing at his watch with a puzzled look on his face.

"Who knows? They said it was an emergency cargo shipment, and the paperwork is all in order, but the timing... it's weird." The young worker chimed in, his gaze involuntarily drifting towards the several exceptionally heavy, sealed containers that had just been hoisted onto the ship. The heavy "click" of the latches during hoisting was particularly jarring in the night.

Faintly, a suppressed, inhuman roar and a faint scraping sound seemed to emanate from one of the containers, sending chills down one's spine. But the sound was too faint and was quickly drowned out by the roar of the waves and the increasingly loud roar of the cargo ship's engines, as if it were just an illusion.

If someone could see through things, they would be horrified to discover that inside these specially reinforced containers, barrels of "purified rainwater" gleaming with a faint, eerie blue glow in the darkness were neatly stacked, along with glass jars connected by complex pipelines. Inside the jars, in a murky nutrient solution, were various ethereal experimental subjects in a forced state of dormancy, their occasional unconscious twitches revealing their inhuman nature.

The massive ship slowly pushed through the inky black water, carving a trail of white foam as it sailed towards the open sea. The lights on the shore gradually shrank and blurred, eventually merging into the dark coastline, leaving only the sound of waves crashing against the sides of the ship and the continuous, low hum of the engine room.

Inside the cabin, the atmosphere was completely different from the coldness outside, carrying a hint of oppressive tension.

"Doctor" sat calmly in the leather chair fixed to the floor, adjusting the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose. His gray-blue eyes behind the lenses stared calmly at the steady scan lines on the radar screen in front of him, revealing no emotion whatsoever. His fingertips tapped lightly on the armrest, the rhythm almost eerily steady.

An assistant stood by and reported in a low voice: "All cargo has been safely stored, and the life support system is operating stably. We are expected to arrive at the designated coordinates in international waters in six hours. Headquarters is on its way to pick us up."

The doctor nodded slightly, remaining silent, his gaze fixed on the boundless darkness outside the porthole. Liu Jing was dead; this batch of purified rainwater was a rare, irreplaceable resource, its value far exceeding that of the mass-producible experimental subjects. If it could be successfully transported to headquarters, he would be the biggest winner.

But shortly after, the radar operator's voice suddenly rose, tinged with barely perceptible tension: "Doctor! Two high-speed moving targets detected at two o'clock! Five nautical miles away, rapidly approaching! No identification signal, navigation lights not activated!"

Almost the instant the words left his mouth, the doctor's fingertips, which were tapping the armrest, paused slightly. He leaned forward, his grey-blue eyes narrowing as he stared at the two points of light on the screen that were approaching at an alarming speed, a hint of expected seriousness flashing across his face.

"As expected... I've been targeted after all." He muttered to himself, his tone as calm as if stating a given fact.

The assistants beside him visibly tensed up, their hands instinctively gripping the weapons at their waists, their breathing becoming rapid. They knew that on this dark sea, far from shore-based support, it was unlikely that the approaching force was a routine coast guard or customs officer.

Panic spread instantly. In this sea area, encountering an unidentified high-speed vessel late at night often means the worst-case scenario.

The two speedboats, like ghosts emerging from the night, were entirely black, blending into the darkness, with only the white spray from their high-speed cutting through the waves faintly visible. With an almost provocative posture, they drew two sharp arcs, one to the left and one to the right, like hunting sharks, silently and swiftly encircling the massive hull of the "Distant Dome".

The doctor slowly stood up and walked to the porthole, where his expressionless face was reflected in the cold glass.

He remained calm, merely adjusting his glasses, the lenses reflecting the two ever-growing, dangerous glints on the distant sea: "Activate the defense plan. Notify the engine room to proceed at full speed. Let's see which group of friends is in such a hurry to see us off."

On the speedboat, a special operations team from the Shouzhen Bureau was ready to board.

Team leader Zhao Lingxi was dressed in a moon-white outfit, her long hair tied in a high ponytail with a light blue pearl hair clip at the end. She was an 8-star Returning to One Realm expert. In her hand, she held a fist-sized, milky-white bead, its surface shimmering with a warm, watery light.

"One kilometer away, prepare to deploy the barrier!" Zhao Lingxi's voice was clear and calm, and the white bead in her palm shone with a soft white light.

Before he finished speaking, all six of them attacked at the same time.

Zhao Lingxi raised her hand and tossed the orb into the air. It instantly swelled to half the size of a person, emitting a vast spiritual light and forming a pale blue hemispherical barrier that precisely enveloped the "Far Dome".

A young man behind him leaped into the air, his silver moon dagger slicing through the night sky and scattering countless silver light fragments. The fragments landed on the ship and transformed into fine runes, which locked the ship in place like chains.

On the deck of the "Distant Dome," the doctor's men had already reacted, holding specially made firearms and aiming them at the approaching speedboat. Gunshots suddenly rang out in the night sky, the bullets carrying a pale purple illusory energy, attempting to penetrate the barrier.

"wishful thinking."

Zhao Lingxi snorted coldly, and the barrier was instantly reinforced, causing bullets to sink into the sea as if they were stones hitting the barrier.

Two speedboats had already approached the cargo ship. One of the boatmen waved his hand, and the seawater obediently supported the speedboats steadily beside the cargo ship's side. Zhao Lingxi was the first to leap up, her toes lightly touching the side of the ship, and her figure landed in the center of the deck like a willow catkin.

The doctor stood at the entrance to the cabin, a hint of seriousness finally flashing in his gray-blue eyes, but he remained calm.

He raised his hand and pressed the red button on the wall. Suddenly, a loud mechanical noise came from inside the cargo hold, and the container's fixing devices were forcibly unlocked.

Even more dangerously, the glass jars inside some of the containers began to crack, and the signs of the ethereal test subjects awakening became increasingly obvious. Deep roars emanated from the containers, carrying a chilling ferocity.

Zhao Lingxi's eyes sharpened: "Let's finish this quickly!"

A life-or-death struggle over purifying rainwater and ethereal experimental subjects has officially begun on the night sea.
