Her face remained cold and aloof, but this small gesture had already given her away.

In Chen Guan's mind, the words Guan Jinyue had said to him when they were on the Demon Realm Staircase flashed through his mind.

"I'm not confident that I can help her live safely in this world."

"Even I don't have the ability to protect her."

It turns out that Baihu had already investigated everything thoroughly.

"Once she recovers, the Origin Group can take full responsibility for all the security issues she faces."

White Tiger observed her reaction: "You should understand what someone who has no ability to protect themselves but possesses the superpower [Dawn] means to all the forces involved."

"That's not something you can handle alone. You need a powerful enough organization to shield you from all covetous eyes and dirty hands reaching out."

Baihu didn't urge her, just smiled and watched her, certain of her final answer.

Guan Jinyue sat motionless in place.

She neither nodded nor shook her head immediately, but remained silent. In her obsidian-like eyes, emotions were churning, but she suppressed them firmly beneath the surface of ice.

Acceptance means her biggest worry will be resolved, but it also means she will truly be at odds with the world.

She had just caught a glimpse of the tip of the iceberg of these people's insane plans.

Chen Guan held the half-warm cocoa can. He knew what this choice meant for Guan Jinyue, and he also knew that she couldn't refuse the conditions Baihu offered.

Time slips away little by little.

Guan Jinyue raised his head, his obsidian-like eyes first sweeping over the white tiger, then landing on Chen Guan.

Finally, she uttered a single word.

"it is good."

The smile on Baihu's face deepened, a calm acceptance born of expectation.

"A wise choice."

He didn't say anything more, and raised his hand to Guan Jinyue.

Just as the white tiger's hand was about to touch her shoulder, a dark shadow condensed at his fingertips, wriggled, and finally transformed into a creature the size of a palm.

That was a lizard.

It followed the white tiger's finger, climbed up Guan Jinyue's shoulder, and curled up in the folds of her clothes, almost becoming one with the fabric.

"One of my summoned beasts has no attack power."

Baihu withdrew his hand, his tone relaxed.

"If anything happens, contact me through it, or I will contact you through it."

"As for payment, the Guiyuan Group never pays on credit. If you intend to wake your sister now, I'll take her away right now."

Guan Jinyue remained silent for a moment, then shook his head.

"Alright then, the deal is done."

White Tiger clapped his hands: "I have something to do, so I won't see you off, Miss Temporary Worker."

"you……"

Just as Chen Guan was about to say something, Guan Jinyue stood up.

Her movements were as swift as ever as she turned to leave.

A silver spatial rift silently tore open in front of her, and Guan Jinyue stepped into it, her figure completely swallowed by the darkness.

The crack then closed without leaving a trace, as if she had never existed.

In the depression of the quarry, only Chen Guan and Bai Hu remained.

"I'm gone."

With his hands in his sweatpants pockets, Baihu turned around first and walked towards the edge of the quarry.

The leopard followed closely at his feet, letting out a satisfied whimper.

For the sake of food, it was no longer so afraid of the white tiger.

A slightly worn black minivan was parked on the side of the road, its body covered in mud, looking like it was used for long-haul freight and was quite inconspicuous.

Baihu pressed the key, the car lights flashed twice, and he opened the driver's side door and got in.

Chen Guan opened the back door, bent down and crawled in. Leopard leaped lightly onto the seat next to him and immediately curled up into a ball.

The car door closed, shutting out the sound of the wind outside.

Baihu started the engine, and the car smoothly merged into the nighttime traffic. He rested one hand on the steering wheel, his posture relaxed: "What are you thinking about?"

"It's nothing."

Chen Guan looked away from the rearview mirror and gave a vague "hmm".

You'll get used to it.

Baihu knew what he was thinking and comforted him, saying, "Since you've made this choice, let's go all the way. This is the only thing you and I can do for this world."

"Perhaps you don't have the ideal of saving humanity, but let's do it for our future."

He turned the steering wheel and the car turned onto a side road.

"Oh, right, there's something I forgot to tell you."

Baihu's tone remained nonchalant, and Chen Guan waited for what was to come.

"While you were in the Demon Realm, your classmate obtained the position of Azure Dragon."

Chen Guan paused in his movements.

Liu Feiyu.

The name flashed through his mind, which wasn't entirely unexpected; he had anticipated it.

Baihu caught his calmness in the rearview mirror and laughed instead: "You don't seem surprised at all."

Chen Guan didn't reply, but just quietly looked out the window, leaving the silhouettes of tall buildings behind.

His own expressionless face was reflected in the car window.

The silence inside the car lasted for a moment.

"This mission."

Baihu's voice rang out again. Looking at the unobstructed road ahead, he dropped the second bombshell in a purely informative tone: "He will be your partner."

Seeing that Chen Guan did not answer, Baihu shifted to a more comfortable position, resting one hand on the steering wheel, and continued, "The full name of the place we're going to in a bit is... never mind, I can't remember it anyway."

"That stupid name is too long. Anyway, people inside the council usually just call it Eyes."

Chen Guan turned his gaze from the window to the rearview mirror.

"This eye uses a large sealing node left over from a war a hundred years ago to keep a close watch on the energy fluctuations of the Demon Realm around the clock."

The white tiger continued speaking.

"It is a searchlight that humans hang over the demon realm, and also an outpost in the hands of the council. As long as it is open, any big move we make on the ground will be captured by it and attract the swarm of flies from the council."

"So our next plan is to blind it."

Chen Guan recalled the commotion he had caused in the Demon Realm; the council's searchlights were probably flashing like a red-light district by now.

He was the source of that catastrophic alarm, and now he had to be the one to shatter that eye and personally destroy the monitoring station that had caused the uproar because of him. This was really going too far.

"Oh, what a coincidence, they should have already detected the anomaly in Ash City."

Baihu glanced at him in the rearview mirror, his mouth still running: "I bet he's busy working overtime right now; the entire command center is in complete chaos."

"Hehehe."

That annoying laugh popped into my head again, laced with undisguised contempt.

"Those ants would probably be terrified if they saw even the slightest trace of Lord Baal's aura emanating from his awakening."
