Re:Zero -Starting Life in Zero
Chapter 47 Arrival at the Capital
Betty carried a soft, sweet, milky scent, so faint it was almost imperceptible, yet so alluringly clear.
Her voice, thick with weariness, slumped softly against Betty's side: "Betty, I'm so cold..."
"You took the blanket all by yourself, and you still dare to say such things?"
Betty raised her hand and pushed Green's head, but she couldn't muster any strength. In the end, she could only helplessly let go and let him do whatever he wanted.
Green freed one hand, shook out the thick quilt, and wrapped it tightly around the two of them. Then he crouched down and crawled under Betty's feet.
"Betty, the blanket can only cover my body. My face is frozen by the night wind. Please warm me up."
"You're going to kill me! Don't squeeze in! Betty's nightgown is about to burst!"
The soft, reproachful tone was full of indulgence, and Betty's fingers, which were gripping Green's clothes, loosened and tightened again.
Her silver-blue eyelashes trembled slightly, but she eventually turned her face away, letting his head peek out from her collar, his warm breath showering her neck.
Betty's taut shoulders slowly relaxed, but her ear tips burned red, and even her voice softened.
"Forget about wearing this dress, it's unwearable. Which way should you turn your head? Betty can't breathe."
"Yawn—You're so warm, Betty."
Green responded in a muffled voice, burying his face in her neck again. His breathing gradually became deep, and weariness welled up in his eyes, enveloped by the warmth around him.
After running around all night until dawn, his spirit finally gave out, and he began to feel lightheaded.
Green loosened his grip a little, but still held Betty's waist tightly. The milky scent in his nose became clearer and clearer, serving as the most reassuring calming agent.
Betty lowered her eyes, her fingertips gently tracing his soft hair, her voice gentle and soft as she whispered in his ear, "...Goodnight, Green."
"Yes, Betty, it's so good to have you..."
……
Daylight broke, and the day of departure arrived as scheduled.
Grin, Rem, and Emilia boarded the dragon carriage together, heading to the royal capital.
The boy now wore a necklace adorned with magic crystals.
The great fairy Betty was inside the crystal, her fingertips glowing faintly as she slowly and methodically removed the impurities.
Roswaal did not accompany them; he had already activated his flight magic to go ahead and scout out the path for Emilia's safety.
The winding, bumpy road took the group three days to finally reach the luxurious inn in the capital.
Green was a little carsick, so as soon as they arrived, he jumped off the plane and took deep breaths of fresh air.
Rem followed closely behind Grimm like a little tail.
Ever since she cried in Green's arms, the blue-haired maid has been acting a little strange.
He would steal glances at Green every now and then, and occasionally he would grin foolishly.
"Rem, is there something dirty on my face?"
Green was puzzled by her gaze and raised his hand to rub his cheek haphazardly a couple of times.
Rem hurriedly waved her hand, a bright smile on her face, her eyes curving into crescents.
"No, not at all, Grin-kun. Rem just thinks Grin-kun looks exceptionally heroic today."
Green straightened his collar with a smug grin, then deliberately put on a stern face and feigned displeasure: "Oh? Wasn't I handsome yesterday?"
Rem's eyes shone like starlight as she obediently followed the conversation, praising him in a soft and earnest voice.
"Grimm is just a little bit more handsome today than he was yesterday. Rem believes that Grimm will be even more outstanding tomorrow."
Green is so cute!
Rem stared at Grimm so intently her eyes were practically drooling, giving off a rather infatuated vibe.
Grimm was somewhat surprised by the girl's answer; he hadn't expected Rem to be so good at flirting.
Even Green, known for his shamelessness, felt a little embarrassed at this moment.
"You two!"
Emilia caught up with them, carrying quite a bit of luggage.
"Rem and Grimm were so engrossed in their intimate conversation that they completely left me behind!"
Rem suddenly realized what was going on and quickly ran to Emilia to take all the luggage.
"I'm so sorry, Lady Emilia, it's all Rem's fault for being so careless! I'm so sorry..."
Rem bowed repeatedly, clearly feeling somewhat embarrassed.
As the head maid of the Mezas family, she had somehow forgotten about the royal candidates supported by the family head, Roswaal, in the dragon carriage.
Damn it, I was so busy staring at Green.
Emilia breathed a sigh of relief after unloading her luggage, then walked angrily to Green's side.
"Grimm too, he was listless in the dragon carriage, but as soon as we arrived in the capital, he disappeared."
Emilia grabbed Green's wrist as if afraid of being abandoned again.
Green's eyes darted away.
"I'm sorry, Emilia, I just wanted to get the registration done quickly so I could deal with Otto's matter."
Emilia's brows immediately relaxed, and her previously tense expression completely dissipated.
"I see, I misunderstood you, Green."
The three of them walked up to the counter.
The teller was a rather serious-looking middle-aged gentleman.
"Welcome everyone! How many rooms would you like to book?"
"Two rooms, thank you."
Green blurted it out.
Upon hearing this, Rem's face inexplicably flushed red, and she quickly tugged at Grin's sleeve, whispering in his ear:
"Grin-kun, Rem, as a maid, cannot share a room with the noble Emilia..."
If only two rooms are booked, Rem will have to stay with Grin.
The middle-aged gentleman glanced at Rem, who was blushing, then at Grimm, his expression suddenly becoming subtle, a hint of envy flashing in his eyes.
He then leaned closer and whispered, "Sir, would you like some tonics?"
"Huh?" Green was dumbfounded.
The middle-aged gentleman revealed a brief, lewd smile, slightly raising his palm to reveal a glass bottle containing a small blue pill.
Holy crap, this seemingly respectable guy is actually selling Viagra on the side?
Isn't this a luxury hotel?
I think it's a brothel.
Green gave the teller a disdainful look and changed his mind, saying, "No need, we still need three rooms."
The middle-aged gentleman looked somewhat disappointed, whether from not getting any melons or not selling any medicines was unclear.
"Okay, we'll open three rooms for you. Please show your identification."
Upon hearing this, Rem and Emilia each took out a palm-sized identity badge from their pockets and placed it on the counter.
Green's heart sank, and he scratched his head in confusion.
He hasn't even completed his free citizenship application, so where would he get proof of identity?
We can't really end up sleeping on the streets, can we?
After looking around for a while, Green happened to see his portrait posted in the VIP section behind the middle-aged gentleman.
"I've got it! It's like a pillow being delivered when you're sleepy."
Roswaal must have known he didn't have identification, so he gave him a heads-up.
This clown truly lives up to his reputation as the current head of the Mezas family; he's incredibly thoughtful.
He pointed to the portrait and said confidently:
"As the receptionist, you can't even remember what a VIP looks like? Take a closer look at that portrait; do I even need to register?"
