Tomb raiding: A mere 20 is nothing!

Chapter 36: A Friend Series

Before leaving, Shen Mingchao could clearly sense the slight hesitation in Wu Xie and the others' expressions.

The reason is not hard to guess.

As an outsider, given the cautious nature of these people, it's impossible that they wouldn't investigate her background.

It seems they couldn't find her identity, felt she was homeless, wanted to comfort her, but didn't know where to begin.

Five months have passed, and Shen Mingchao has gradually accepted the reality of transmigrating into the book. However, there are some things she still needs to find the answers to herself.

Wu Xie and the others ultimately didn't spell it out, only subtly indicating that they could ask for their help anytime they encountered difficulties.

Shen Mingchao waved goodbye, saying, "Don't worry."

She didn't have an ID card, so she had to take a taxi home, which wasn't the problem. The problem was that the driver was a black bear.

The man in black leaned against the car, his long legs casually crossed, a cigarette between his fingers, exuding a nonchalant yet roguish air. Seeing the newcomer, he tilted his head, gesturing for her to get in.

Shen Mingchao hesitated.

She was already poor, and if she had Hei Xiazi drive her around, the time she would have to work to pay off her debts would be endless.

Black Bear, as shrewd as a man, saw through Shen Mingchao's thoughts at a glance and explained, "I happen to be going the same way, so I'll give you a ride. Besides, didn't you already pay the fare? I won't eat your food for free."

He opened the passenger door directly, gestured for them to get in, and repeated in a slightly coaxing tone, "Get in."

Having said all that, Shen Mingchao could no longer refuse.

As the car started, Hei Xiazi glanced at the group of people at the door through the rearview mirror, a half-smile playing on his lips, and even waved to them provocatively.

"I really want to punch him."

Wu Xie nearly shattered his back teeth. If he hadn't been unable to defeat Hei Xiazi, he might have actually betrayed his master and ancestors.

"Add one."

Xie Yuchen rolled his eyes. He had too many things to deal with. He had originally arranged for his family to deliver the package, but Hei Xiazi intercepted it halfway there.

The fat man was busy with his shop and didn't have time to deliver it.

As for the others, they all came, but were scared away by the bear. It's not that he hit them, but he just grinned like the King of Hell. Who would dare to take on this job? They'd be tired of living.

The only person present who could subdue Hei Xiazi was a level 10 disabled person in modern life. If Zhang Qilan drove Shen Mingchao home, the two of them might end up somewhere else entirely.

In the end, only Hei Xiazi remained as a candidate.

Watching the car disappear over the horizon, Xie Yuchen sighed, a rare occurrence for him. "Wu Xie, I think I'm starting to regret it."

Hei Xiazi is truly unpredictable; sometimes even a ghost couldn't fathom what he'd do. The only reason Hei Xiazi was assigned to escort people back was because he had plenty of free time.

Wu Xie pouted: "Add one."

Meanwhile, the atmosphere inside the car was far from relaxed.

Shen Mingchao forced herself to remain calm. She was really not familiar with Hei Xiazi, and his aura was too strong. A subtle sense of oppression clung to her, so she could only watch a drama to distract herself.

Snacks are essential at times like these.

Fortunately, she was quite well-prepared.

Shen Mingchao took out a box of cherries and even asked Hei Xiazi if he wanted some.

Hei Xiazi glanced out of the corner of his eye at Shen Mingchao's bag, which was stuffed full of snacks, and exclaimed, "You really came here for a picnic."

Shen Mingchao said seriously, "This is a Chinese tradition. Who gets on the bus without bringing fruit and snacks?"

Black Bear choked, thinking to himself that he really didn't have this habit. When he went to meet the lamas, he would just go whenever he wanted, and as for food, it wasn't a big deal; he could always find something to eat on the spot.

"Oh, right."

The opportunity to be alone was hard to come by, so Hei Xiazi naturally seized the chance to make his presence felt.

He pretended to be troubled and said, "Ming Dynasty, there's something I'd like to ask you for help with."

That's quite novel.

Shen Mingchao became interested, wondering what could be so difficult that even Hei Xiazi couldn't handle and needed to be asked of her.

"What is it?"

"I have a buddy of yours who's recently taken a fancy to a girl, and he's really worried about it. He says he can't figure out what young girls like these days, so he came to me for advice."

Black Bear sighed and continued, "This really stumps me. How would a rough old man like me know anything about these things? Mingchao, why don't you give me some advice?"

"I?"

Shen Mingchao looked hesitant. She didn't have much dating experience, but since Hei Xiazi had already asked, she symbolically replied, "Lipstick? Flowers? Dolls?"

"I see." Black Bear nodded. "Okay, I understand."

etc--

Something doesn't seem right.

Hei Xiazi added at the opportune moment, "I'll tell my buddy that if he succeeds, I'll have him thank you in person."

"No need, no need, I didn't do anything."

Shen Mingchao waved his hands repeatedly, breathed a sigh of relief, and thought to himself: This time it's working.

Hei Xiazi suddenly changed the subject: "Ming Dynasty, did you really stay in that godforsaken place, the Bronze Gate, with the mute for five months?"

"Yeah, right." Shen Mingchao sighed when he thought of it, "That really is a horrible place. I never want to go there again in my life."

Black Bear casually remarked, "What a pity."

This really hit Shen Mingchao right where it hurt. She angrily complained, "It's such a pity that my best years were wasted in that godforsaken place."

Shen Mingchao was furious, and turned his grief and anger into a voracious appetite, frantically devouring the snacks she had brought to the car.

Hei Xiazi didn't reply. He only had one thought in his mind: What a pity. Why did such a good thing have to go to the mute? I just can't understand it. Why wasn't it him?

In a remote, deep mountain forest.

After a long period of activity underground, the white snake finally had time to return to the surface to rest.

Exhausted, he entered the tent, picked up his phone, and saw a text message from an unknown number.

The White Snake initially thought someone was contacting him for a job, but when he opened the text message and saw its contents, he was stunned.

[Brother White Snake, I sent you some tiramisu via SF Express. I made it myself, remember to eat it! Be careful at work, we'll contact each other again when we have time ´∀`]

What kind of feeling is this?

The White Snake is indescribable.

It was probably a feeling that could dispel his exhaustion and something he had never experienced before.

The man lowered his eyes, his long hair obscuring them. He smiled helplessly, his fingertips unconsciously touching his chest, feeling the inexplicable flutter in his heart.
