Chapter 15 Interrogating Walker: I anticipated your prediction.
trial room.
Walker sat on a simple wooden chair, his hands tied behind his back, looking completely dejected.
The days of running around and interrogations had left him exhausted, his lips dry and cracked. But a stubborn glint still clung to his blue eyes.
The old general sat opposite him, slowly lighting a cigarette, the smoke swirling around him.
"General Walker, we've known each other for so many years, we're old friends."
Walker smirked and let out a cold laugh.
"Friends? We are enemies."
"Yes, the enemy." The old general nodded, unconcerned. "But even the enemy can be talked to."
"There's nothing to talk about." Walker turned his head to the side.
The old general took a drag of his cigarette and flicked off the ash.
"According to the Geneva Convention, you have the right to remain silent."
He changed the subject, his tone turning cold.
"But you should know that this is not Geneva."
Walker's body stiffened.
"We won't torture you; it's against our principles," the old general said calmly. "But we have plenty of ways."
He clapped his hands.
The chief of staff immediately brought over a stack of photos and slammed them onto the table in front of Walker.
Walker looked down and his pupils suddenly contracted.
The photos show the bodies of American soldiers, frozen into ice sculptures in the snow, in all sorts of bizarre poses.
Some of the young faces even showed the frozen fear of impending death.
Walker's face turned ashen.
"These are all your soldiers." The old general's voice was devoid of warmth. "They risked their lives for you, and now you sit here, while they remain forever in the snow."
"Do you think it's worth it?"
Walker clenched his teeth, his cheeks puffed out, and remained silent.
The old coach stood up, walked over to him, and looked down at him.
"Walker, you're a soldier, and I respect that. But war is not child's play."
"You Americans come to our doorstep to show off your power, and you think you can win?"
"dream!"
Walker abruptly raised his head, his eyes bloodshot: "You Chinese will lose sooner or later!"
"Is that so?" The old general chuckled, but the smile didn't reach his eyes. "Then we'll see."
He turned around and his gaze fell on He Yuzhu in the corner.
"He Yuzhu".
He Yuzhu stepped forward.
The veteran coach pointed at Walker and said succinctly, "Let him see what a real warrior is."
"Yes."
He Yuzhu walked up to Walker, slowly squatted down, and looked at him at eye level.
"General Walker, do you know who I am?"
Walker looked at the young yet chilling face and unconsciously uttered a word.
"Tiger..."
"Yes, I am He Laohu." He Yuzhu said calmly, "The one who pulled you back from the midst of a massive army."
Walker's breathing instantly became heavy: "What do you want to do?"
"I don't want to do anything," He Yuzhu said. "I just want to tell you that you Americans are utterly vulnerable in front of us."
"You're talking nonsense!" Walker was completely enraged. "We Americans have the most powerful military in the world!"
"Really?" He Yuzhu chuckled. "Then how come I caught you all by myself?"
Walker was speechless for a moment.
He Yuzhu stood up, his voice not loud, but every word pierced the heart:
"You are well-equipped and have powerful firepower, but you have a fatal weakness."
"What weakness?" Walker asked instinctively.
"fear death."
"You Americans fight for money, for some damn honor. But we Chinese fight for our homes, for the country we stand on!"
That's the difference!
Walker fell completely silent; those words seemed to have drained the last bit of strength from him.
The old coach looked at He Yuzhu with undisguised admiration in his eyes.
This kid is a real gem!
He looked at Walker again and issued an ultimatum: "Walker, I'm asking you one last time, your battle plan—tell me or not?"
Walker gritted his teeth, his facial muscles twitching violently, and remained silent for more than ten seconds.
Finally, as if resigned to his fate, he let out a long sigh.
"...I said."
The old general's eyes lit up.
Over the next hour, Walker laid out the entire U.S. military operation plan.
The air in the interrogation room was as cold as a knife.
After Walker finished speaking, he seemed to have lost all his soul and slumped into his chair.
The old general looked at the intelligence being quickly copied down by the recorder, but his brows furrowed into a knot.
"Is there anything else?"
Walker shook his head weakly: "That's all."
The old general stood up and paced back and forth in the interrogation room, clearly weighing the authenticity and value of the intelligence.
He Yuzhu stood in the corner, remaining silent.
In his mind, the "King of Soldiers Engine" was running wildly, performing billions of simulations on the virtual sandbox of every word Walker had just said and every tactical deployment.
He quickly discovered the problem.
"Commander."
He Yuzhu suddenly spoke.
The old general stopped and turned his sharp gaze over: "Speak."
"I think he wasn't telling the truth."
Before he could finish speaking, Walker, who was slumped in his seat, suddenly raised his head, his eyes instinctively darting away, a hint of panic flashing across his face.
The old general narrowed his eyes slightly, showing interest.
"Oh? Tell me about it."
He Yuzhu walked up to Walker, squatted down again, and stared intently at him.
"General Walker, you just said that MacArthur's strategic intention was to end the war before Christmas."
"Yes," Walker answered, forcing a smile.
"But you didn't say how he planned to end it."
Walker's face darkened further.
He Yuzhu continued, "You only mentioned the conventional frontal advance plan, but given MacArthur's gambler-like nature, he will never be satisfied with such a steady and methodical approach."
"He must be hiding an even bolder, more adventurous plan. A... trump card!"
"Is it right?"
Wok kept his mouth tightly shut, but the cold sweat on his forehead betrayed him.
The old coach looked at He Yuzhu with shock, no longer admiration.
This kid is simply a prodigy!
He Yuzhu slowly stood up, walked around behind Walker, and his voice came softly, as if close to his ear.
"I guess the plan was called 'Operation Iron Fist'."
Walker shuddered violently, as if struck by lightning!
"MacArthur planned to gather the main forces of the army, navy and air force and launch a devastating saturation attack at a critical juncture."
"The objective is to precisely cut off all of our army's logistical supply lines, and then encircle and capture Pyongyang in one fell swoop."
"Am I right?"
He Yuzhu recalled his memories of his past life and boldly voiced his guesses.
Large beads of cold sweat trickled down Walker's temples.
The old general strode over, his voice booming: "Isn't that right!"
Walker remained silent, gritting his teeth.
He Yuzhu sneered.
"General Walker, I respect you as a soldier. But you should also understand your current situation."
"You are my prisoner."
"Your men are still dying in droves on the front lines for your so-called 'honor'."
"And you, sitting here, using false information to protect a boss who has abandoned you."
Do you feel you've done right by them?
Walker's face was ashen.
He Yuzhu emphasized, "Do you know? On the way to capture you, I wiped out an entire special forces unit of thirty elite soldiers."
"They chased me for two days and two nights in the snow at minus forty degrees Celsius to save you."
In the end, they all died.
"What do you think their motives are?"
Walker's body began to tremble uncontrollably.
Every word He Yuzhu said was like a poisoned knife, precisely stabbing into the softest part of his heart.
"They did it for you!"
"But your silence now makes their deaths in vain! It turns their sacrifice into a colossal joke!"
"Just because you're protecting MacArthur's damn plan!"
"But ask yourself honestly, MacArthur, did he care if you lived or died?"
Walker abruptly raised his head, his eyes bloodshot, and roared, "What do you know!"
"I understand."
He Yuzhu's voice instantly became calm, yet carried an even more terrifying penetrating power.
"I understand how you feel right now. You feel that if you speak out, you'll be a traitor."
"But you're wrong."
"The real traitors are those who send you soldiers into the meat grinder while they themselves hide in their Tokyo mansions drinking champagne and enjoying cigars."
"For example, MacArthur."
