Gu Changfeng's words were so hurtful that even the enamel basin in Lin Wanrou's hand was shaking.

She tried to pull her hand back, but that large hand was covered in calluses and as hard as an iron clamp. With the slightest pull, her strength vanished like a mud ox sinking into the sea, utterly ineffective.

"Changfeng, you...you let go first." Lin Wanrou didn't dare to look him in the eye, she could only stare at the top button of his collar, her breathing as erratic as a tangled mess of thread, "We already have a child, why are we saying these things, people will laugh if they hear us."

"What's so funny?" Gu Changfeng leaned forward, his aggressive heat blowing directly onto the crown of her head.

"I'm speaking my mind to my daughter-in-law, and even the Emperor himself can't interfere. Wanrou, give me a straight answer: from now on, do you want to be a real couple with me, or do you just want to use me as a meal ticket?"

That's a bit like being a scoundrel.

Lin Wanrou bit her lip, her face burning. Of course, she wasn't treating him like a meal ticket. Seeing him in pain these past few days had tugged at her heartstrings. If she didn't care, who would be willing to stay by a stinky man's side day and night?

How could she possibly say those words?

Just as the two were locked in a stalemate, and the air in the room was practically crackling with tension, two heads, one big and one small, were pressed together behind the curtain.

Meng Yaya clung to the door frame, her little brows furrowed into a deep frown.

"Tsk, so slow."

Meng Yaya sighed inwardly. This cheapskate father of hers, usually so decisive and efficient, why does he only talk the talk but not walk the walk when it really matters? He's already at this point, why is he still pressing me for answers? Why not just kiss me?

"Since you're not moving, then I'll lend a hand."

Meng Yaya's eyes darted around, landing on the dark pull-cord switch by the door frame. It was an old item from the 1960s, with a thin cord connected to a light bulb on the ceiling; a little force would produce a "click" sound.

She winked at the black wind at her feet and gently hooked her little finger.

A faint, almost invisible green light flew from the fingertip and wrapped around the long-neglected cable.

Inside the room, Lin Wanrou was cornered by Gu Changfeng, her back pressed against the edge of the table. She had just mustered the courage to say, "I also want to have a good life with you," but before she could even open her mouth—

"Click!"

A crisp sound.

Immediately afterwards, the originally dim and warm light bulb flickered twice, as if it had been choked and went out completely.

The world was plunged into darkness in an instant.

"Oh no!" Lin Wanrou exclaimed instinctively. Everything went black before her eyes, and she lost her footing, falling to the side.

"Be careful!"

Gu Changfeng reacted incredibly quickly, completely forgetting about faking illness or being paralyzed on one side. He stretched out his long arm, grabbed Lin Wanrou's waist, and pulled her forcefully into his embrace.

"Clang!"

The enamel basin fell to the ground, rolled twice, and made a piercing sound.

But nobody cared about the basin anymore.

Lin Wanrou stumbled hard into a burning hot embrace. The embrace was hard and muscular, and unbearably hot. She instinctively placed her hands against his chest.

Darkness is a good thing.

It emboldened people and also tore away the veil of shame.

Gu Changfeng could hear the woman's rapid heartbeat in his arms, thump-thump-thump, like a drum. The pleasant scent of soap emanating from her body, mixed with the faint medicinal fragrance in the room, rushed straight to his head.

He didn't let go.

Instead of loosening his grip, he wrapped his "healed" left arm around her as well, his two arms like iron barrels, holding Lin Wanrou tightly in his arms.

"Chang...Changfeng?" Lin Wanrou's voice trembled like a frightened rabbit. "The light...the light is broken?"

"Yeah, it's ruined." Gu Changfeng's voice was terribly hoarse, as if he had a mouthful of grit in it. "It's ruined at just the right time."

Before Lin Wanrou could even process what "just the right time" meant, her chin was grabbed by a rough, large hand.

Gu Changfeng gave her no further chance to escape.

He lowered his head and, relying on the sense of direction he had developed as a special forces soldier at night, accurately located the two lips he had longed for for so long.

Warm, soft, and with a slight tremor.

This wasn't the kind of refined kissing described in books, with all those fancy techniques. This was a man who had been pent up in that harsh, cold place for many years, finally tasting the real thing.

Urgent, fierce, with a kind of drive to tear someone apart and devour them.

"Well……"

Lin Wanrou's eyes widened. Even in the pitch black, she could feel the man's aura pressing down on her.

His stubble was a bit prickly, making her skin numb and her lips hurt from his pressing against them, but then, that toughness changed.

They became clumsy, yet incredibly devout.

Gu Changfeng didn't know any special techniques; he relied solely on instinct, slowly probing and trying to pry open her teeth. His tongue, burning hot, invaded her territory, turning her world upside down.

Lin Wanrou's body went limp like a puddle of water, and the hand she had been pressing against his chest gradually lost its strength, until she could only tightly grip the fabric of his vest.

She didn't dodge.

Amid Gu Changfeng's heavy breathing, she even inexplicably tiptoed and awkwardly responded to him.

That one action was like pouring a ladle of water into a pan of hot oil.

Gu Changfeng let out a low growl, like a wild animal guarding its food, and suddenly tightened his arms, lifting her up so that the two were pressed even closer together, leaving no gap at all.

Outside the door.

Meng Yaya listened through the crack in the door for a while, then nodded in satisfaction.

Although I couldn't see, the sounds coming from inside the room were enough to make my heart race and my face flush. The panting and banging on the table suggested that this cheapskate father had finally seen the light.

"Alright, Black Wind, let's retreat."

Meng Yaya patted the big wolfhound's head and whispered, "Let's sleep in the west room tonight and leave this battlefield to them. If we stay any longer, we'll easily get styes."

Black Wind seemed to understand, and with its tail between its legs, it followed its little master away without a sound, taking cat-like steps.

Inside the room, the kiss lasted a long time.

Gu Changfeng only reluctantly released her swollen lips after Lin Wanrou felt as if all the air had been sucked out of her lungs and her head was spinning and she was about to suffocate.

But he didn't let go.

Their foreheads touched, their noses brushed against each other, their breaths mingling, making it impossible to tell whose was whose.

"Wanrou..." Gu Changfeng panted heavily, his voice low and deep, carrying a lingering lust, "This time, it's official."

Lin Wanrou's face was so hot it could fry an egg; if there were any light, you could definitely see that she had turned into a big red shrimp.

She buried her face in the crook of his neck, not daring to look up, and muttered softly, "You...you pervert."

"I'm a rogue then." Gu Changfeng chuckled, his chest trembling. "If I'm not a rogue to my own daughter-in-law, that's unacceptable."

As he spoke, he freed one hand and, in the dark, bolted the door.

The click of the lock clicking shut was exceptionally clear in the quiet darkness.

Lin Wanrou froze: "Why...why did you lock the door?"

"To keep thieves away." Gu Changfeng said this nonsense with a straight face, grabbing her hand and pulling her directly onto the kang (a heated brick bed). "The light is broken and can't be fixed. It's easy to bump into things in the dark. Let's not bother with this and go to sleep early."

Lin Wanrou's heart skipped a beat.

This isn't about preventing thieves; it's clearly about preventing her from running away.

"Then... then which side will you sleep on?" Lin Wanrou was pulled by him to sit on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), her voice barely audible.

Gu Changfeng didn't say anything, but simply pulled one end of the two quilts over and folded them together.

"We're not going to part ways." He firmly grasped her ankle in the darkness, helped her take off her shoes, and said in a domineering and unquestionable tone, "Tonight, we'll squeeze into one bed."
