This miracle doctor just wants to be fired!
Chapter 55 Running Around
The preliminary round is over.
The athletes were leaving the stadium one after another, and Zhou Cheng and Su Yi met at the entrance of the stadium.
As soon as the two stepped out of their testing stations, an announcement came over the loudspeaker: "The preliminary exam is over. Please leave the venue in an orderly manner. The preliminary results will be announced tonight on the official competition website. Those who advance to the semi-finals will receive a text message notification. Please check your messages."
Su Yi smiled and moved closer to Zhou Cheng. "Let's go! I know a great grilled fish restaurant nearby. It's on me today, consider it a farewell dinner for our preliminary round!"
Zhou Cheng smiled and nodded, "This time it's my treat, you always paid for the previous gatherings."
"Haha, that works too." Su Yi grinned from ear to ear.
The two walked out of the gymnasium of Jinghua Medical University side by side.
When the two arrived at the grilled fish restaurant, it was already quite crowded.
Su Yi, familiar with the place, found a window seat, ordered the signature spicy grilled fish, and added a few side dishes: "It's rare to relax, is it okay to have a drink? I don't have to go to work tomorrow."
Zhou Cheng shook his head: "You drink it. I don't have the habit of drinking alcohol. Just give me a soft drink."
The grilled fish was served quickly, its golden skin glistening with oil, and its fragrant, spicy aroma filling the air.
Su Yi picked up a piece of fish and put it in his mouth, saying vaguely, "By the way, how's it going in the emergency room lately? Your probation period seems to have about two months left?"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Cheng paused and said, "It's alright. If I can't stay, so be it. I've come to terms with it now."
Su Yi was somewhat surprised: "I remember you said your mentor had a solution, what happened now?"
Zhou Cheng shook his head: "Don't mention him. I've come to terms with it now. Being fired from the hospital might not be such a bad thing."
It's not just not a bad thing, it's an incredibly good thing!
However, he could not reveal the existence of the system, and could only speak vaguely like this.
"It's good that you can take it easy. Actually, the medical environment isn't very good right now, so going back to the county hospital might not be a bad choice."
Although Su Yi is usually carefree and irresponsible, he is quite knowledgeable about the development of the medical field due to his father's influence.
The two then chatted about other interesting things in their lives, including Lin Wei.
However, Zhou Cheng did not reveal that he and Lin Wei were sharing an apartment.
It wasn't that I was deliberately hiding it; I just felt there was no need to say more. After all, we had only been together for two months. Once Lin Wei returned to Kyoto and I was fired, this cohabitation experience would soon be over.
Su Yi didn't ask any further questions and continued complaining about the department's troubles. Zhou Cheng occasionally chimed in with a few words.
At that moment, both of their phones suddenly vibrated.
Su Yi picked it up and saw that it was a message notification from their WeChat group chat.
The group chat has been quiet lately, but it suddenly became lively today.
The latest message was from Zhang Miaomiao: "I just heard from Lin Wei that she's sharing an apartment with Zhou Cheng now! You two are really something!"
A winking emoji followed, and the group chat exploded.
"Wow? Really? Zhou Cheng, you're amazing!"
"Tell me quickly, have you two been having an affair for a while now?"
Su Yi's eyes widened immediately when he saw the message in the group chat.
Zhou Cheng's face froze instantly, and the chopsticks in his hand stopped in mid-air.
Su Yi exclaimed in surprise, "Holy crap! They're already roommates! Zhou Cheng, you're something else! You acted like nothing was wrong, but secretly you've got someone living with you, and you didn't even tell me?"
"It's not what you think," Zhou Cheng said helplessly, putting down his phone. "She couldn't find a suitable place, and I happened to have a spare bedroom, so we rented it together. It was just a classmate helping out; there was no other intention."
"Nothing else?" Su Yi raised an eyebrow, giving him a knowing look. "Sharing an apartment is so convenient, you're living together all the time, you can easily develop feelings for each other. Lin Wei is beautiful and has a great personality, it would be strange if you weren't interested in her!"
"Really not." Zhou Cheng sighed, swallowing back the words of explanation that were on the tip of his tongue.
He couldn't very well say that he would be fired from the hospital in three months, and that Lin Wei would return to Kyoto in two months.
Saying such things out loud will only make things more confusing the more you try to explain.
Sure enough, Su Yi didn't believe him at all and continued to joke to himself, "Okay, okay, you say it's not true, I understand, you two are just innocent roommates now."
"But seriously, Lin Wei is a great girl. If you're really interested in her, you'd better hurry up, or you'll regret it once she's gone back to Kyoto."
Zhou Cheng didn't argue anymore, but silently picked up his drink and took a sip.
He himself didn't know what life would be like three months from now, so how could he have the mind to think about anything else?
After finishing the grilled fish, Su Yi offered to take Zhou Cheng home, but Zhou Cheng refused, saying, "No need. My home isn't far from here; I can walk back. You should go home now."
Su Yi didn't insist, and before leaving, he didn't forget to remind her, "Get along well with Lin Wei as your roommate, and remember to tell me if anything happens!"
Zhou Cheng waved helplessly, watched Su Yi walk away, and then turned to walk home.
……
When I got home, Lin Wei wasn't there. She must be quite busy usually, collecting a lot of clinical research data and traveling back and forth between several hospitals.
Zhou Cheng didn't pay any attention and continued with his daily life as usual.
When it was time for dinner, Lin Wei still showed no sign of returning. Zhou Cheng went downstairs alone to eat dinner, and then went for a walk in the nearby park to digest his food.
When he returned home again, Lin Wei still hadn't come back.
Around nine o'clock in the evening, Zhou Cheng heard the sound of a door opening outside.
He pushed open the door and glanced inside; sure enough, it was Lin Wei.
Lin Wei was bending down to change her shoes. Her high ponytail was a little loose, and a few strands of hair were stuck to her forehead, indicating that she had been to many places.
Hearing the door open, Lin Wei turned around, saw Zhou Cheng, and forced a smile: "Sorry I got back late today, I hope I didn't disturb your rest."
Her voice was a little hoarse, clearly indicating that she was very tired.
"Still not asleep?" Zhou Cheng stood in the doorway, his gaze falling on her rather tired face. "Did you go to many places today?"
"Yes, I went to three hospitals to collect data," Lin Wei straightened up, put her bag on the cabinet in the entryway, and sighed. "Some of the hospitals' medical records systems were not working well. It took two hours just to wait for the data to be exported, and then there was traffic on the way back. It's been so much trouble."
As she spoke, she slowly walked into the living room.
Zhou Cheng nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
He knew how troublesome it was to collect clinical research data, especially when collecting it across hospitals, which took even more time to coordinate.
"If you're tired, go back to your room and rest for a while. Have you had dinner? If not, there's bread and milk in the fridge that I bought this morning, you can have some to eat first."
"I ate, thank you," Lin Wei replied, pushed open the bedroom door, and soon the door closed softly.
The living room returned to silence, with only the light in the entryway still on.
Zhou Cheng stood there, looking at Lin Wei's bedroom door, and suddenly felt a pang of emotion.
Everyone is busy with their own things. Lin Wei's doctoral degree is very eye-catching, but she has to run around to various hospitals for research data, and graduating will not be easy.
Zhou Cheng also returned to his room.
Suddenly, his phone beeped with a text message notification.
